Wow. Glad we found this place. Our server was Minnie. She was delightful. We started with an appetizer that was similar to a lettuce wrap, but made with spicy duck. My wife had the curry and I went with my standby choice of Chicken Pad Thai. Both were generous portions and very good. The menu had many other great features that we hope to explore when we return.

I have been coming here since before they had their new makeover. As a half Thai girly myself ….It’s the only authentic Thai place around. I have almost eaten everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. So delicious and the staff is amazing! Great vibes and delicious food!

It was so good! Me and my wife were served by Minnie and she was great! The food was all piping hot, and super fresh. We loved the decor, the paintings, and the tea cups. Guys if you read this, this place is THE Thai place on 280. Not surin, not Nori it’s Yum Yai for sure. Can’t wait to go back!

My family went for lunch and it was amazing! We had Zaap wings, Basil Shrimp Rolls, Pad Thai wings, Pork Yaguza and Pad Thai! My drink was a Lychee Martini and my husband had a Blue Orchid! The kids loved everything! Can't wait to come back! 🥰💛

We were worried about eating on 280 at noon on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, but we walked right in with no waiting. Our waitress was precious, very fast, sweet, and efficient.

The bathroom is nice and clean. Definitely much better than I expected in a strip mall Thai restaurant.

We had spring rolls as an appetizer and we both ordered phad Thai. I had beef and hubs had chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

They serve your water in a lovely pitcher on the table so you can refill as you like. And they don't ice the water, although it is chilled, which is perfect for me because I have sensitive teeth.

The decor is very nice without being gaudy or over the top. They have both tables and booths. The dining area is larger than I expected in a strip mall restaurant.

It was an exceptional meal, exceeding our expectations. Would definitely go back.

Update: 2025 - remodeled with a much cooler, modern atmosphere, and the food and service are still top-notch. Easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area.

This place is fantastic! I'm not the biggest Thai food faithful, but occasionally I find myself in the mood for it; and now Yum Yai is going to be a new must-stop for those occasions. The service is incredibly welcoming and attentive, the food is delicious and hearty, and the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed - a great combo for a satisfying meal. Highly recommended.

Yum Yai is back! In a big way, I was so sad to be without while they were renovating but the new space and menu and cocktails are out of this world. Minni (our server) was incredibly attentive and made some awesome recommendations that made the night so enjoyable! Thank you for recommending pork jowls with dashing salt cocktail. Yall gotta try it, it’s by far the best Thai and maybe even Asian you can get in Bham.

By far the best Thai restaurant in birmingham. My fiance and I traveled to Thailand for three weeks, and this is essentially the best restaurant we ate at in Thailand, but with better ingredients. 10/10 !!
