My experience was unique and wonderful and I cannot thank the owner enough for his hospitality. I showed up on a Sunday night without having called ahead. It was dark, stormy, and the place looked a little desolate when I arrived; I thought they may actually be closed for the season. To my pleasant surprise the gentleman poked his head out the door and let me know he in fact was preparing to reopen after being temporarily shut to take part in family celebrations. Although he was not really open he set me up with a room for the night. Rooms are humble but they most certainly get the job done. Views are great. After a nasty, stormy night we were blessed to wake up to a golden sunrise like I couldn't believe. Looking out over the incredible scenery from that spot is really a treat.
Continental breakfast items were fantastic and there were great options, better than some bigger hotels have to offer. The long ranch house is very cool and the whole time I felt just like I was staying with family.
Location is one-of-a-kind. It seems as though this is a common stop for hunters as this is one of the waterfowl capitals of the world, don't quote me. A few miles south is an entrance to Lava Beds National Monument which I also recommend highly.
Also two big Labradors were such sweethearts and made the whole thing that much better.

Thank you again.

To be clear, I rate this "very good" for a very basic breeze block motel room. The bed was comfortable and I bought my own pillow. It was cold during my stay but I was out at Lava Beds all day and the heater blasted enough warm air in an hour or so for me to sleep with it off. I also made my own coffee and toasted my own home made bread for breakfast as there was nothing to eat that wasn't sugary. Loyal and Pam didn't look askance at me for that. They were truly welcoming to us tourist misfits among the duck hunters.

This is a great little lodge tucked away near the wildlife refuge. The rooms in the motel are spacious and clean. The lodge has a huge great room full of activities: billiards, shuffleboard, video games, and board games. The owner is very nice and accommodating. The night we stayed we were the only guests, so it was very quiet.

Good location. Near to Lava Beds National Monument and right on Tulelake Wildlife Refuge. Old setup not very fancy rooms.

We planned a trip to visit Lava Beds National Monument over Spring Break 2022, and as the week came closer, the weather forecast became gloomier and gloomier: snow and a wind chill factor of 26. Although it's a calm 55 degrees in the caves, camping with our tent trailer seemed like a bad idea. Winema Lodge to the rescue! At first, the four of us (two adults, two teenagers) were going to stay in a motel room, but then changed our minds and stayed in the Lodge instead. We are glad we did. The room was bigger, came with a little table and enough beds for all of us. The shared bathroom was fine, and we were just down the hall from the giant great room. The best part was coming home (yes, it felt like home) after a full day of caving to a blaring fire in the fireplace, cozy carpet, recliners and the pool table in the great room. And, Loyal fed us Venison and Elk Stew! It felt like we were staying at a friend's cabin. And, it felt like we got the full experience of staying way, way up North in California. We'll definitely be recommending Winema Lodge to anyone traveling in these parts.

We had such a wonderful experience here. Pam was a pleasure to talk to and hear about the local conditions.
The rooms were great too with everything we needed to make our trip comfortable.

They even allowed pets (specifically our cat) which we were so happy about. They do ask on a poster to not have pets on the bedding, so bring something for your pet to lay on.

This location provided easy access to Tule Lake and the Lava Beds National Monument.

Nearest accommodations to Lava Beds and overlooking Tule Lake. Locals make the few mile trip into Merril, OR for gas and groceries. |Travelled to this location with my Girl Scout troop for a 3-day getaway. We stayed in one of the unpretentious lodge rooms--5 twin beds and a closet for each. Community bathroom was no problem, with private shower stalls. We had the lodge to ourselves, just shared the common and breakfast rooms with motel guests--generally friendly travelers. |We were greeted by the Lodge hostess, Verna and spent adequate time with Annie (dog) and Saber (well-fed kitty). The girls loved the accommodations. Some may say it's not adequate (being somewhat dated), we say it was perfectly comfortable, exactly what we needed and an all around lovely experience. |Absolutely no complaints. Nice continental breakfast each morning; access to microwave and small frig for our simple dinner and lunch food we brought. Huge common room to kick back after full days of exploring. |I'll also mention that our hostess was very sweet... engaging in conversation when wanted, just hanging back otherwise in case she was needed.|Thank you, Verna & Al for making our Tulelake adventure a comfy and memorable one! Blessings to you.

I stayed at the Winema Lodge on my recent roadtrip. I met with owner and immediately was struck by hos honesty, integrity and down to Earth demeanor. He would not charge for certain things even after I insisted. He is such an honet and open person that he felt that I did not need to pay for certain things. He also gave me some very good tips on Lava Bed National.Park, the Tule Lake Internment Camp National Monument and surrounding sights.||If you are ever in the area you have to check out the Winema Lodge. They are the best.
