The Southerner Sandwich. It has bacon, fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese, sauce of sorts (?), & lettuce. Side of Tomato Bisque Soup. Dessert Chocolate Pecan Pie. All were good but a little bland. It needs something to kick it up a notch.

I want to first say we were VERY excited to see the cafe reopen, we had our first chance to go in today (3/18/25) right at opening. We were the 3rd table sat and our waitress was Rhonda. First the pleasant things: Rhonda our waitress was nice enough, the hostess (no name) was SUPER nice, the interior is beautiful and comfortable, and the restaurant was clean and inviting. The neutral things: there is NO space for anyone but one table to get inside the door at the hostess stand, the menu is a tad odd and lacking for certain items (in our opinion), prices are steep (but that can be overlooked with inflation, if the serving sizes are generous, etc). The bad, we were the 3rd table to order at opening we ordered a country fried steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and Mac n cheese, and a pimento cheese burger with fries. No drinks, only water. Our food took quite a bit of time, everything was tepid at best, the grease was old and tasted horrid, the burger was SO small (and cost $13.99) and the side of fries was 10 fries. The whole country fried steak and two sides with a mini biscuit fit on an 8” plate. It was inedible. Then the waitress comes out without a bill, tells us what our total is and stands there and waited for us to pay after I asked for a bill. She stated they don’t do that (so I couldn’t confirm what we were charged, etc), so she decided we were ready to go and watched as we decided what to tip, etc. Super Uncomfortable. Our bill for lunch was $27 before tip!

Needless to say two locals that were excited for a nice spot for lunch will never go back. So unfortunate.

The server and hostess were nice, I enjoyed the hamburger steak and squash casserole. The corn bread was nice, but to me just average. I liked the buttermilk pie.

I only gave a four because after the food was dropped off it was hard to get the waitress back. We needed some butter, a different waitress got us some.

Stopped here on our way to Savannah today. Atmosphere was awesome! Service and food was even better! You’ll spend $10-$15 on average per person, and the food is so worth it! Will definitely go here again if driving by. Also, the buttermilk pie was amazing!!

Back again, review after this is from a year ago
Another great lunch with family. We had a knife and fork open face beef sandwich, tuna melt and a BLC sandwich....all great. Service was spectacular and friendly and the play list for background music is right up my ally. Always a great experiance.

From 11/2018. Second time we have been here. This time with out of town friends. We wanted to give them the local feeling. Overall service and atmosphere were great for our lunch. Great ice tea and deserts(buttermilk pie and chocolate walnut pie)..although a little expensive. Fish Po-boy, Chicken melt and Tuna melt were outstanding, Caribbean chicken not so much. Fun place to share the real home town feeling of Greensboro.

My family and I were at Lake Oconee/Greensboro area for 5 nights and tried number of local restaurants. My rating is based on the restaurants we tried in the area. Follow me to see my other reviews.

This was the one restaurant in the area that we wanted to try from everything that I read about. We felt it was a bit over hyped. Fried green tomatoes was the best thing we got, though the tomatoes were not "green" enough. Blackened pork chop was a bit dry. Country fried steak was salty. Grill chicken is good but very small portion. Fried basa (fish) is good and good sized portion. Finished off sharing the famous buttermilk pie. While it is warm, we could tell it was microwave as some spots was still cold. It was really sweet for our taste.

This is a great restaurant, with superb food, exceptional service, and their pies are to die for. After a tragic loss of the owner, they closed. But the family later reopened the community’s best place to eat.
