Absolutely valet your vehicle if you have to stay here. Mine was parked literally outside the front door and was still broken into.||||I can’t imagine I’ve been the first victim yet no parking advice was provided by the staff while checking in. The valet lot was publicly accessible at ground level as well so I figured I was just as safe on the street literally in front of the lobby doors. No such luck.

My husband and I stayed in the most expensive room on new years eve to celebrate our anniversary and the room looked very nice and seemed very clean besides some dirt that was on the jet tub. We only stayed the one night and attended the New Year’s Eve party and everything seemed fine and great until a few weeks past. I want to say the end of January and beginning of February we started waking up to bites on us. We do have pets and new neighbors with a dog so we thought maybe the neighbors brought fleas over. Time past and I got my animals treated for fleas but the bites got worse and worse. Eventually I called a pest control company and they looked over our bed and found bed bugs. We told them where we had been the past few months and no we are not movie theater goers and we had not had anyone over or stayed anywhere else since staying at this hotel. We ended up paying $1,600 to get our situation taken care of and the room that night cost over $500 and also needed a new mattress because of how grossed out I was with this situation. Our one night special anniversary date ended up costing us over $3000 so far. I heard bed bugs don’t discriminate but to pay such a high price for a supposed boutique hotel is very disappointing and infuriating. The hotel staff need to check the rooms more and do better with cleaning especially with how much you’re asking guests to pay per night for your rooms.

I had a wonderful stay with great quality service, clean rooms, and friendly staff members who made me feel welcome throughout my visit. The overall experience was pleasant and comfortable. However, I did notice that the drinks could use a bit more quality control or some additional training on preparation. Aside from that, everything was fantastic, and I would definitely recommend this place!

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Never Coming Back

We booked the biggest and most expensive room at The Padre Hotel, hoping for a peaceful night’s rest on our way to Carlsbad. Instead, we were kept up all night by blaring music from the nightclub downstairs. It was unbelievably loud – as if the DJ was in our room. We chose this hotel based on the glowing reviews, but clearly, none of them mentioned the unbearable noise level.

To make matters worse, I woke up with a migraine and thought a warm bath might help. Unfortunately, the bathtub was filthy — so much for comfort and luxury. For a hotel that markets itself as upscale, basic cleanliness shouldn’t be too much to ask.

This was a one-night stopover that turned into a total nightmare. Absolutely not worth the money, and we’re never coming back. Beware if you’re looking for rest — this is more of a nightclub with rooms than an actual hotel.

The Padre is fully updated but filled with historic beauty and charm. We loved our stay. It was Prom night and the lobby was full of beautiful young people getting their photos taken in the charming lobby of this old hotel. Quite fun for us to see! We will be back!

The bed linen was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. From the reception area to the very nice cleaning lady. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous. I think the Hotel is too nice for the surrounding areas. I would stay here again!

There's a reason why, when we live just down the street from The Padre Hotel, we still choose to spend staycations at this wonderful hotel, time and time again. It's a treat we like to give ourselves at least once a year, and recently we were gifted a Padre Hotel gift card from our family for Christmas, so we chose to use it for our anniversary (over 20 years!) because we knew it would be special. And we were not wrong: from the booking of the stay with the lovely front desk people, to the room, the service, the food, the hotel itself - there's a lot to enjoy about this Bakersfield gem in the heart of downtown. We were treated incredibly well all throughout, and the hotel even gifted us sparkling wine and delicious dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Everything about this hotel screams "quality!" If you're ever at a loss of where to stay when you're in Bakersfield, seriously give The Padre Hotel a look, as I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality, the care, and value you receive.

Such a unique place and with a fun history! Read about it before you go, and be sure to look for the handprint in the cafe! Comfortable, great location, interesting locale, and excellent service to boot! From the valet to the rooms being impeccably clean, from the cafe baristas to the front desk - outstanding place to stay!
