Relaxing night in historic hotel. Easy to check in and out. Friendly staff. Clean, comfy queen bed. Wood plank walls and ceiling. Rooms along one side of hallway all have sink. One has genuine bear skin rug! Bathroom or shower down the hall is easy to access. Ladies toilet is a bit cramped on your knees, but you won't be there long, right? Great value and experience!

I recently stayed at The Oregon Hotel in the charming small town of Mitchell, Oregon, and it was a truly pleasant experience. The hotel itself has a rustic, old-fashioned charm that perfectly complements the quiet, small-town vibe. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and cozy, making it a great place to relax after exploring the nearby Painted Hills or other natural attractions.

Not a lot of lodging options in the area, so you hope for the best lol. This place definitely has old world charm, from the creaky stairs to the creaky beds to the ladies toilet you can sit and wash your hands from. We had the queen room with bunk beds. Not a whole lot of room to move around, but thankfully we were just there to sleep. Fortunately we had the top floor mostly to ourselves which was nice as it was a shared bathroom situation. If you are a big or tall woman, using the ladies toilet is very difficult as your knees hit the pipe under the sink while on the toilet. I opted to use the mens room instead. Our bed sagged in the middle, but that could have been because it fell off one side of the frame or wasn't properly put together, not entirely sure. Their continental breakfast is nothing more than coffee and a prepackaged pastry, so don't rely on that if you enjoy breakfast. ||Mitchell itself is a very small, charming town. The Tiger Town brewery has some pretty amazing food, good beer and friendly, helpful staff. Probably was a bustling town at one point in it's history.

One would expect a hotel with this name to be located in the Willamette Valley. However, it is located in the very small, quiet town of Mitchell. Mitchell is the gateway to the Painted Hills, and this is an excellent place to stay The rooms are basic, but comfortable and clean, with a sink. Bathrooms are down the hallway. The front porch is delightful, and a very pleasant place to relax, read, and just enjoy the small town atmosphere.

Things are often "in the eye of the beholder" aren't they.|The Oregon Hotel, Mitchell will by some be regarded as quaint, old fashioned, charming, of a bygone era.... |For others it will be decrepid, dark, barely welcoming,....|Room 3, upstairs, 2 nights - had it's own bathroom with bath but no shower. Sink had a goodly supply of rust. Hot water was hot, eventually. The bath took ages to fill, but the hot water didn't run out. Towels fine. Toiletries - 4 sachets of shampoo.|Bed was comfortable enough, though bedding, sheets etc somewhat old fashioned.|Electrics took some sorting. Didn't realise that the brown cable was an extension lead for the bedside lights, and couldn't be bothered (or willing 🤔) to crawl under bed to connect the furthest light.|And the lights themselves! I thought those very old curly-fry type of "energy saving bulb" had been consigned to bins ages ago. Yet, that's what all 4 bulbs - main light, bed lamps, bathroom - were. So very dingy.|Blinds and thin curtains did a very inadequate job of keeping out daylight at sunset.|"Breakfast" - drip coffee with powdered creamer, hot water for tea or packet hot chocolate, and sad looking soggy, celophane wrapped 'danish'. I take it that the proprietor wants to keep breakfast simple from their point of view but it wouldn't take much more effort to provide alternative "non attendance" options eg fruit/apples, porridge pots. And, if there is going to be "hot" water please make sure it is hot.|Wifi best described as "flaky"|All in all expensive for what it is.

We stayed here for two nights beginning 9/3 while on a bicycle trip. This is an old-fashioned hotel with period furniture throughout which was neat and clean. The rooms are fine though there is a shared bathroom and a shared shower room at the end of the hall which is not comfortable for everyone. The hotel is adequate for most travelers given the scarce lodging options for the area but BICYCLISTS SHOULD NOT STAY HERE!!

The hotel makes you park your bikes behind the hotel by the fence, which seemed OK, but the path to that area is full of Goatheads - killers of bicycle tires and tubes!! We arrived late and didn't see the Goatheads and, as a result, all four of our tires had multiple Goatheads in them and two tires were flat by the next day. There is no way the hotel could not have known about the Goatheads but they never said a word. The attached picture shows our bikes but the deer didn't eat the Goatheads for us!

The proprietor also gave me a hard time about charging my ebike as the only outdoor receptacle is on the front porch where bicycles are forbidden. After initial resistance, she relented and obtained an extension cord to plug in there, but she also threatened to charge me $20 to charge the bike which she fortunately didn't do. Bicyclists who are forced to stay here should find some other place in town to keep their bikes during their stay.

GATEWAY TO THE PAINTED HILLS! The Hotel Oregon is a Super Nice small hotel. We need a room and a half, which was a little expensive, but not outrageous. Comfy room, coffee in the AM, sweet snacks. I rented this Hotel because it was only 8 miles to the entrance to the Painted Hills. The town of Mitchell is small, like a village, and the locals are really nice. The reason I wanted to see the Painted Hills, by the way, because of the Fossil digging in Fossil Oregon. We had a good time, me, my husband and our son. Good times! Nice place! Please, check it out! 104 Main Street, Mitchell Oregon.

Most fun, quirky and memorable hotel on our sixteen night road trip. We decided to extend our road trip of Washington and Oregon's National Parks and scenic places to include John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Having been to the Painted Hills area in early evening we were facing a 90 minute, 70 mile drive to the nearest town with hotels. ||Imagine our delight to find the tiny town of MItchell (population c150) a few minutes from the Painted Hills with a hotel as one of the ten of so buildings straight from the Wild West. But in an authentic way and not a tourist way. Skeeter, the owner, greeted us and gave us a choice of two available rooms in the Oregon Hotel. We went for one with a private bathroom just to the right of the lobby area. The whole building is a large historic house from a different era. This is the third building (following two fires) and was constructed in the 1930s. Skeeter has been there a long time and she is clearly a much loved local character. She also has several cats, one of who befriended us to our delight.||Our private bathroom had a tub but no shower but we were very happy with that as it really was a joy to be in a truly historic property that hadn't been too messed about with. We popped two doors along to the local grocery store for ice which was clearly going to take more than the 5 minutes we had before it closed. It was on several floors and sold everything you could imagine and more on top! It was a real treasure trove which we spent ages in the following morning.||We found a great bar a few doors up next to the grocery store which kept the mountains of melons and bag of charcoal, garden items, etc. outside all night. They'd all be gone in the morning if you did that in my neighbourhood (which incidentally is a very nice area in the UK!). ||We had great conversation with others at the bar and then retired to the hotel veranda with our own drinks and snacks. It was so comfortable there. We were then joined by a delightful young rancher, Rylee, who lived locally. Our lives could not have been more different but we enjoyed chatting with him immensely.||Skeeter left coffee and wrapped muffins in the lobby for breakfast which was appreciated as we left quite early. ||Our short stay is one we will always remember in this unique community in a remote area of Oregon.
