The Mill House | Bed and Breakfast Inn and Events - Hines, Oregon

For our 4th stay in Harney county to visit my daughter who is working in Burns, we decided not to stay at any of the motels that we had tried before, and instead hopefully upgrade to the Hines Pine Mill House. And what an upgrade it was! The place is charming, with turn-of-the-century character updated to modern standards and maintained as pristine and spotlessly clean as if they just opened for business. The bedroom was huge, the bed supremely comfortable and just soft enough that you feel as if you are floating but perfectly horizontal, and the sheets felt smooth and velvety and luxurious and i am not particular about that sort of stuff so the fact that even i noticed the luxury of it all shows you how impressive it is. The bathroom was immaculate, the water pressure in the shower excellent. The wifi worked flawlessly. We were welcomed in by the owner, Shani, who is as kind and helpful as she is accomplished as a cook (one of many talents, it seems, as she also raises chickens not just as a job or a hobby but more like a scientist who has studied the subject matter in depth -- she showed us some of the variety of eggs produced by the breeds of chickens that she chose to raise). Every breakfast was so copious (and delicious) that we probably did not really need either lunch or dinner that day. And Roger was very knowledgeable about the history of the mill house and of the Hines family and their myriad achievements in the region and elsewhere in the midwest -- he had not just researched the history, he actually met several descendants of the founders (Edward and Loretta Hines) and can tell you all about the factory itself, Edward's innovations and Loretta's contributions. We had an excellent stay. Hines Pine Mill House may be a little more expensive than the other options on offer, but it is far, far superior to the other three places where we had stayed before.

Amazing space! We went with the kids and the in-laws(they h and had a great time playing games and visiting with Roger, Shanie and their sweet son. Rooms are beautifully done and the history is so rich! The extensive knowledge they have regarding this historical site will make you feel connected to the Mill House. Make sure to say yes for breakfast as the food is delicious. There is a gift shop that you can buy items made by local artists. Game room has everything you need to entertain families or just sit and visit. (Ask about the secret room!) ||The love and care that Roger and Shanie have put into this space shows the dedication they have to make this a destination. The 7 of us are already trying to plan our next stay! You have to try this wonderful B&B.

One of the best B and B experiences we've had. Hosts Roger and Shani are welcoming and friendly: happy to show you their remarkable and historic home, provide delicious breakfasts, and suggest interesting places to visit in the area. ||We stayed in the Ponderosa Pine Room with an en suite bathroom and an enormous and comfortable king bed, as well as a desk and sofa. As much as we enjoyed the room, we spent the majority of our time in the common area, reading about the company town of Hines, the Hines lumber company and the Hines family, and looking at all the artifacts displayed throughout the building. Should you get hungry, there are a variety of snacks and drinks available 24/7 in the dining area. We also made use of the brochures to help plan our trips to the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, the Round Barn, the Crystal Crane Hot Springs, and the Diamond Crater. ||As wonderful as all these amenities are, it's the genuine hospitality and kindness of Shani and Roger that makes this place special.

The hidden gem in plain site!!!

Wow! I would never had expected to find such a place like this in a lifetime. This place was spectacular in every sense of the word. First of all the owners are amazing and the hospitality is off the charts. Then let’s add the rest of the experience by simply saying above and beyond amazing. Roger and Shani have hit it out of the park with this entity. Not only did they make our stay better than any hotel I have ever been to but then add breakfast and you have what I would call a winner. 5 stars is unjustified for them. I’m rating our stay 10 stars and we immediately upon arriving home booked another stay a month after the first.

I love this place! The owners are the sweetest couple! They offer great recommendations for thing to do in the area and are so warm and welcoming. AND the breakfast... TO DIE FOR!!! This is a great place for a couples getaway, a girls weekend, or to stay with your family. The property is so cute, definitely don't skip the tour when you arrive, so many cute hidden gems about this place! Seriously, love, love, love this place!!!

Amazing property, friendly hosts, and a great night sleep. The welcome, and tour around the place is a great start to your stay. The owners take the time to walk each guest around and introduce them to the property and history. Breakfast is personalized and freshly made and so delicious. I only stayed one night but whenever I go to Burns for business again I will be staying here.

First time staying here,was amazing. Roger and Shani were great hosts. Place filled with historic info of Hines Mill and area. They speak Cribbage here, and Roger built us a custom board. Shani was fantastic upon arrival and we felt at home with friends from the minute we entered. Great breakfast and rooms and decor are outside the box.

This is one of my all time favorite stays! You feel at home the moment you arrive. The owners will immediately become friends you miss when you’re away. Find hidden treasures, play a round of cribbage, and devour the most delicious home cooked breakfast you’ll ever have! I can’t wait to get back here!
