A cute and eclectic place. Our first bed and breakfast experience. Unfortunately the host was out of town, but the place was clean, with lots of information about nearby restaurants and more. The king room bathroom has a fun antique toilet where the water bowl is near the ceiling and uses gravity to deliver the water to flush by pulling a handle attached to a level by a chain.

We chose this location because it was so close to the Eagle Cap Train station, since we were taking the train the next morning. We typically don't see our overnight places as much more than a place to crash for a few hours to rest and get cleaned up before tomorrow's adventures. Since our entire trip consisted of camping spots, this was a very welcome oasis to get a hot shower and comfy bed for the night. It achieved those goals entirely.

As a bed and breakfast, everything but the bedrooms are a shared space. It helps to be okay with making new friends if you plan on hanging out in the shared spaces.

For those who enjoy bed and breakfasts, you should give this place a shot. It is a cute home with a beautiful exterior and very well managed interior. The massage chair was an unexpected bonus.

Stayed at this place with a large group of Cycle Oregon staff and volunteers during our event this year.

Awesome place. Super weird and quirky decoration and furnishings that give it a lot of character.

Only real downside I’d say is there’s only one “public” bathroom/shower, and it’s a clawfoot tub so you’re surrounded by shower curtains that want nothing more than to aggressively stick to you.

The management (outdoor cat) was wonderful, however, greeting newcomers with friendly purrs and always willing to hang out in the garden with you if you want to just chill and read for a bit.

Also the local deer were always fun to watch eating from nearby trees or hanging out trying to hide and get some rest!

This is such a fun, adorable, reasonably-priced, comfortable, and overall AWESOME place to stay. I've stayed here twice now while traveling across the state and it's officially a must that I stop here now.
This cozy place is also decorated beautifully! (To all the people saying it's 'cluttered' in other reviews: go stay in a dang motel 6 if you can't appreciate staying somewhere with character. This is a house built in 1890 that they turned into an antique store and is now a bed and breakfast; of course it's decorated with antiques!)
Breakfast was delicious also. Overall 5/5 or 10/10 experience!

What a wonderful place to stay! Stacy is a fabulous hostess, has an immaculate inn filled with lots of interesting antiques! Some of my favorites are the history of the place... The original owner had it built for his bride in 1890 and then died in a tragic car accident in 1915 in one of those new fangled automobiles.... Her breakfast was yummy.. The pull chain on the toilet was a great experience... Did I mention the massage chair in the parlor? Who knows what era but it massages your neck, back, calves and even the bottoms of your feet!! Her place is a short walking distance to the historic theaters in town... We rented the king room with a bath but you can actually rent the whole house for a super reasonable price. Come stay in Elgin, visit the theater, eat at Cowboys and Angels restaurant and of course stay at Mays Place!! Perfect weekend!!

I had the great pleasure of staying at The Mays Place in October. While I was in Elgin for a sad reason (funeral), the owner went out of her way to ensure that I had a wonderful stay. I was greeted by a friendly woman who gave me a tour of the place, provided lots of local knowledge, and offered to help with luggage. The place itself is a lovely historic home. I stayed in the private King room downstairs which was comfortable, quiet, and felt like I was visiting a beloved relative's house. Everything I needed was included - lots of fluffy towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. In the morning, the owner made a generous and delicious hot breakfast. As a female traveling solo, I felt completely safe here, especially knowing that the owner took guest security very seriously. Elgin itself is a charming small town. While I hope my next visit is for a more cheery reason, I do look forward to being able to stay at The Mays Place again!

On our way to paddle a wilderness river nearby, we opted to spend our 1st night in warmth and comfort. On arrival, we were greeted by Stacy, the owner who was very pleasant and helpful. She provided us a tour and overview of the history of this fascinating home, going back to the late 1800's. We spent the evening continually being enthralled by a huge range of antiques, photos and history of the era. ||The room was clean/bed comfortable &led to a good nights sleep.||In the morning Stacy served us a delectable and hearty breakfast (cost $10.)||We were pleased with our stay at The Mays Place and enjoyed a brief tour of the cute little town of Elgin.
