I drove six hours to get to their location but no one was there to check me in. I even waited an hour. I eventually had to find myself another place. I had gotten delayed by a collision on the highway. I would definitely not try to stay here again =)

Passing through Kanab and needing a shower is a hard thing unless you’re lucky enough to have someone in the grocery store recommend Cowboy Bunkhouse! The hostel is staffed by friendly people and though the facility is old, everything is clean and in good working order. Five dollars a person for a warm shower is an amazing find! Thanks for providing a much needed amenity to travelers!

The place was not very clean. There were two dead wasps in my room, big bugs in the bathroom, and a big hairball that was on the floor multiple days. Which means that the bathroom wasn’t cleaned daily when I was there. Most of the building smelled musty. The redeeming factor is the friendly and helpful staff, and the free food that will keep you fed the entire time if you wanted it to.

The place was pretty decent besides all the bugs. My 1st night i woke up covered in ants. 2nd night I found roaches crawling in and out of the shower drain. And no joke, after returning home and unpacking I found a dead cricket in my luggage. Seriously unsanitary. For what it's worth, the staff was pretty polite...

As an individual traveling alone, this hostel did a great job of making me feel safe, comfortable & included. The owners and workers were wonderfully helpful. The facility itself was good - one of the better hostels I have been to. The rooms were clean, however my roommates were not always clean. The owners gave great traveling recommendations. Overall, I am happy with my stay at the Cowboy Bunkhouse in Kamba, Utah.

JoAnn the owner and a native to Kanab is super accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. You won’t find better pricing, location of the grand circle, and the theme of the Hostel is on point! Great history and they make you feel part of a community. Wonderful tasty garden in front - I made some delish sandwiches with their homegrown tomatoes. It’s a hidden gem in the Southwest.

Stayed at the Cowboy Bunkhouse for a few nights in August. |Pros: Good location for access to Zion and Bryce National Parks. Breakfast was fantastic, best I’ve come across in a hostel! Free use of the laundry facilities is a huge plus for me in a hostel. |Cons: The room we had was really hot in the morning and day as it faced the east. We had no air con just a fan in the room. Not so sure if the floor was vacuumed prior to our arrival as I stepped on some little rocks and prickles that were stuck in the carpet. The duvet on the bed had food marks on it, like someone had eaten on it and spilt some food on it. One of the kitchens didn’t seem to be as clean as the other one. This could have been due to other hostel guests not cleaning up after themselves. |A few minor issues, otherwise the hostel was good, free fruit and veg from their garden available for guests to use and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for a hostel.

The design of this place is special and nice, just like the wild west. The hostel had been hospital and then school and now hostel, so the hostel has wings and in each one of them there is a kitchen, restrooms, showers, a place for gather around and eat, etc’. There are several washing machines which is complementary (but there is no free soap for it). Each kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need including ziplocks aluminum paper and more stuff for taking a meal with you. Breakfast is nice, and for early birds it can be packed the night before (Just ask for it). Because of the history of the place the restrooms and showers are not perfectly located but it’s not too annoying. There are rooms with showers and restrooms inside the room. The mattress is too soft for me, and the walls are thin, so you can hear what’s going on at the room near you, especially if it has restroom in it. I found this place special and very nice. The staff know a lot on Zion and other places around, so take some recommendations from them.
