My husband and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary at the Castle Inn with a murder mystery, a Romantic Toast, a private Dinner, and a private breakfast. Our romantic dinner was BEAUTIFUL!! Trish and her husband David, the Innkeepers, did a lovely job decorating our table with rose petals and candles. We played our own music and such a lovely evening. Our meal was beef tips over potatoes and we were very pleased with it. Our innkeepers went over and above to make our weekend stay an unhurried, organized, relaxing, and memorable experience. We hope to go back. The castle is in a bit of a rough shape, but the service, kindness, and attentiveness of these two is better than a five star hotel. Seriously. I took so many pictures! Even with the needed repairs, the castle is beautiful, and conveniently located in town. The garden and pond are both beautiful and comfortable and secluded with a place for a fire. Our room was VERY NICE. We loved everything about it. Our jetted tub for two was as advertised and we enjoyed the heck out of it! The murder mystery was a lot of fun!! Again, David, our innkeeper, was right there to help when needed. It was a very fun evening. I’d recommend the organizers of the murder mystery itself, to perhaps, put up “tips for 1920
1. NO CELL PHONES—( they weren’t around in 1920
2. Don’t bring up players of past mysteries; I was very confused at one point and had no idea what one fellow was referring to. It threw me off for a minute.
3. We had been given a cast of characters and their spouses, which I memorized. But when we began playing two of the cast members were paired with the wrong spouses. I was calling the sister by the name of the woman who was the wife of Ruttledge, only to have her correct me, mid game, that her name was Irene. I stumbled a bit in my character, but sort of tried to explain why a maid of 25 years would not recognize the woman who had grown up in the house! These were my only regrets for the weekend. I wish the game had been smoother and that our cast of characters would have reflected the proper names for the night. That aside, the rest of the time, and Victoria and Cornelius were great!! The were perfect and made the evening so enjoyable for my husband and I.
I would highly recommend the Castle Inn murder mystery.
I hope there will be new mysteries that we can take part in!!
Thank you for a wonderful and memorable experience, Castle Inn!!

This was the worst B&B my wife and I have ever been to. We booked directly with the hotel and felt lied to when they said we got the last room and there was only one other couple there. We were charged a holiday rate resulting in a 700.00 dollar bill for three nights. The breakfast was barely edible made with the cheapest ingredients, Parkey Squeeze Margarine instead of butter, some frozen sausage and hash brown potatoes, that tasted like water. Not to mention they were very slow at putting the "Breakfast" out so slow that the other people that were there just left and did not eat, we should have done the same. we were supposed to spend one more night but we decided it was not worth it and just drove back to North Carolina. The Castle is only a castle in the sense that blue is a shade of orange. I would give this a rating of zero but there is no option for that, save your money book at another hotel and find a local diner to eat at.

Mixed reviews. If you want character, this is the place. But if you want a Hilton-level 4 star experience, this isn’t for you. It’s a historical house built like a castle filled with kitsch. Plaster peeling but beautiful stained glass. Quaint, lack of natural light (some windows boarded up), creaky, interesting, and unique.

Xmas decorations still out for Valentine’s Day.
Fireplaces aren’t real.
You can still see details from its glory.
Decades of amateur repairs are shouting over its charm.
Inn keeper sweet and assists every way she can but seems overwhelmed.

It really has the potential to be a wonderful B&B if it had a superhero owner with a vision and cash for the more expensive repairs.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very flexible with setting up our stay and working around our activities. We were going to see outdoor drama Tecumseh which required us to have an earlier check-in and meal and a very late night return. Then we had massages scheduled at The Castle for the morning so they worked with us on that as well. The staff was very friendly and food was great. The meals were very good and plenty of food! We had to take leftovers with us and when we had them again at home we were reminded of how good it tasted. Very pleased with everything they did and a job well done. There is still some maintenance renovations here and there being addressed but nothing major that affected our stay but were just visibly noticeable. It will be great was restored completely. This place has a great historical and Castle feel. The couples massages that we received were right up as the best we had ever had and my wife gets about 1 per month - Highly recommended! We were supplied with things to do in the area while we stayed which was helpful also.

Just stayed here with my girlfriend it was overall a good experience the castle is a very beautiful place with alot of potential...it does need a a little work on the inside (some paint peeled on walls and stained carpet) the outdoor area is very nice but needs alot of touch up work and some cleaning up. The breakfast was pretty good but served a little late (9:30 am) but the inn keepers were very nice
