St. Johns Inn and Event Venue - Portland, Oregon

Oh, my. This was a very special place to stay, and one we'll be talking about for years. One evening during our visit we made the pleasant walk through the pretty local streets to the St John's Pub & Theatre to watch a film in the historic Lewis & Clark Exposition hall. The next evening we ate a takeaway pizza and drank a glass of red wine in the spacious riverside garden available to guests at the St John's Inn, watching the sunset and then the lights of downtown Portland start sparkling into the darkness. Our room was huge with wonderful views, spotlessly clean, and beautifully furnished with attention to detail. Ornate door hooks, a pretty bathroom rug, a little basket of carefully chosen sweet treats, all small details which make a big impact. In the kitchen provided for guests was a range of coffees, including decaf, and organic milk in the fridge. Teas on offer included mint tea and English Breakfast, plus a kettle for the perfect cuppa! (We ate breakfast pastries which we'd bought from the nearby Safeway store in St John's). One day we went into Portland so we could visit the Historical Society's museum, and we parked at the nearest Smart car park to the museum. The charges were very reasonable, and there were plenty of parking spaces. Portland's traffic can get slow at big junctions, but it was surprisingly quick and easy to get between Downtown Portland and St John's Inn. The owner was very nice and welcoming, and has created a truly exceptional establishment that you cannot fail to love.

Absolutely lovely room and location. Felt really secluded and secure, yet we were close to our fishing spot & various breweries. We loved the little kitchen & outdoor table & chairs that overlooked the river. We will definitely stay here again next time we’re in Portland.

One of a kind. If you like the photos online, you'll love the place in person. Quirky, comfortable, great location, and clean. The views of the river alone are worth the stay. Shopping and restaurants are nearby--as in minutes. Going Downtown (e.g., Powell's Books)? 15 minutes. Willamette Valley Wineries (Dundee)? 30 minutes. Columbia River Gorge (Hood River)? 45 minutes. A home away from home.

My new favorite place to stay! Beautiful historic property with wonderful hospitality and cleanliness. It was nice to be outside of downtown Portland in a quieter part of town, however you are close to services to get downtown if needed. Great view of the whole Willamette River and surrounding area. And, St. Johns has lots to offer for food and services. One of my favorite parts of the experience was spending time talking with the owner, Tim, about his story and the history of the place. Will be my go-to choice when returning to Portland.

Wonderful inn in a beautiful setting. Room was lovely and the history of the inn fascinating. Loved sitting in the expansive grounds overlooking the Willamette river, watching the river boats. Room was huge and very comfortable.

Such an incredible stay. The property is beautiful and the view of the river is a perfect way to spend a spring or summer evening.

I booked my room for the wrong evening and the owner was super accommodating and nice and helped me switch. I’ll definitely be back for a longer stay.

My mom and I were traveling around Portland for her birthday and needed a last minute accommodations for the evening. We were having a very difficult time finding a place on short notice but we’re fortunate enough to find St.Johns Inn and get put in touch with the owner, Tim. Tim was able to honor our VERY last minute accommodations and was so kind and welcoming when we arrived. We were able to check in immediately to the penthouse suite and get settled in after a long day of travel. The space itself exceeded our expectations - photos really can’t do justice! We spent a considerable amount of time taking in the views from the many windows, as well as admiring the many thoughtful decor details through the space. This space had all the modern conveniences one would hope for, while also still making you feel like you’d been transported to a different time. Our only “complaint” would be that we couldn’t reserve the room for additional nights as they were understandably booked up for the weekend - this was of course our own fault for not planning ahead! We would have been thrilled to spend the remainder of my moms birthday trip in Tim’s wonderful inn. As a Portland local, I will definitely be back with friends and loved ones and would give this review ten stars if I could. What a local gem this place is! Thank you again for a stay that my mom and I will remember for a lifetime 🙂

I really enjoyed my stay. It was so peaceful and the vintage style of the house made me feel like I was transported back in time. But at the same time, I felt peace of mind knowing stores, restaurants and coffee shops were just a few blocks away.

I especially loved just sitting out by the river watching boats and trains pass by while I ate or sipped on my coffee (sometimes with one of the friendliest kitties I have met 😀 ). Such a cool place that I miss already. Will definitely be back and hopefully soon!
