After two days of bike-packing, staying at the Spoke'n Hostel was such a wonderful respite. We were warmly welcomed, got cleaned up, and slept great. Mitchell and the Spoke'n Hostel is a great spot to recharge before the rest of our ride with lots of amenities and things to do at the hostel and, of course, nearby in the John Day River Area, Painted Hills, Ochoco National Forest, and beyond!

I stayed for 2 nights here. This is a wonderful hostel! I cannot say enough good things! But, I'll try! |- Super Nice & Friendly Host- very accommodating and helpful.|- Cozy, comfortable communal Bunk Room and bunk beds; plenty of warm and cozy bedding, to include a hand-made quilt.|- Air Conditioning, plus each bunk has their own decent sized circular bedside table and table lamp; well-working personal fan.|- Everything nice and clean; hardwood floor and bathroom very clean.|- plenty of outlets for charging electrical devices.|- Each bed is thoughtfully selected by host before arrival, with name cards so that we can feel comfortable addressing other guests.|- Kitchen is big, clean and has a frig, stove, d/w, pots, pans, cups, glasses, silverware, napkins, coffee pot, hot water pot, toaster and microwave.|- Kitchen comes stocked with various snacks and gatorade and water. I think that whatever is donated or available at the time is what is offered. Fresh coffee every morning. A large dining table encourages guests to eat there and also interact.|- Large screen t.v. and loads of dvd's to watch movies. Comfy couches, chairs and pillows for your viewing fun.|- Books and lots of magazines available for reading/taking.|- Zillions of games available to play with others; 2 pianos upstairs.|- Lots of little tucked away spaces for alone or together time with others.|- Door to outside back yard off of kitchen. Nice outdoor yard with comfy outdoor chairs; creek behind the backyard.|- Showers are located in an outdoor small building.|- Parking lot seems safe. Bikers allowed to bring their bikes into the building to keep them safer.|- Little cafe next door may be closing down, but very affordable; Brewery in town that seems fairly current; you can walk to town.|- Very small Grocery store in town.|- About 1/2 hour to the John Day National Monument- Sheep Rock unit- Fossils and beautiful museum; about 10 - 15 minutes to the John Day National Monument- Painted Hills unit; both of these units have hiking trails.|- Because the guests appear to be so happy as a result of all that is offered, many guests feel free and comfortable to have conversations with others.|- Overall- very positive vibe and- definitely- YES- I will go there again!

Amazing place to stay. Do not be turned off by the hostel description. This hostel provided everything you would want in an overnight stay. Jalet was also great. She was waiting for me for an after hours check-in and gave me a thorough tour of the entire facility. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were great - boot driers, complimentary slippers, full kitchen with stocked tea/coffee bar, breakfast foods, and even a washlet (bidet) on one of the toilets. Also, spent a very enjoyable evening talking with the only guest at that time. Thank you for providing this gem!

I have stayed in Hostels all over the world and this place is the Ritz Carlton of Hostels. Jalét(Juh-lay) was the friendliest host. Beds are amazing, shower was hot and everything is provided. Full kitchen and there is a selection of breakfast items on the counter. Pancakes, oatmeal, toast, coffee and tea. Excellent general store in town where I bought local country sausage to have with pancakes one morning. Even if you are remotely close, make detour and stay here. Tiger Town Brewing has an excellent selection of beers and delicious food. Get the Fish&Chips👍😎Stay is donation based and $35 is suggested donation.

My stay with Spoke'n Hostel was brief, but left a very positive impact. I arrived late (after check in time) from a road trip, but nonetheless, Jalet saw to it personally that I received a warm welcome and the full tour of the hostel! The showers and facilities were very clean, and free lemonade/coffee/snacks were available to a tired road warrior. The Hostel is full of artwork and books from other travelers, and instruments/board games/entertainment are available to those who are so inclined. There is a kitchen and appliances fully available to those who wish to cook, or a brewery just down the road with great food for those who don't. Whether you are just passing through to Eastern Oregon, or need a place to stay near the Painted Hills, do not miss out on the charming desert town of Mitchell, and the hospitality of Spoke'n Hostel.

What a blessing when hail and snow cancelled our camping plans! Comfortable, quiet and friendly. I haven’t stayed in a hostel in years and was nervous but this was so comfortable. The kitchen was a lovely bonus - made my morning coffee and hit the road hoping to visit again soon!

My third stay at Spoke`n hostel on backcountry bicycle trips. Every time it feels like home away from home, Jalet and Pat have made the most welcoming, clean and enjoyable place to recharge and relax after miles in the saddle. I recommend this little oasis to all fellow travelers without any hesitation. If I could give it a ten star rating I would !! ........ Swami

It is easily one of the best places my partner and I have ever stayed while doing trail hikes. If you don't mind sharing spaces with strangers, the amenities here outclass many hotels. They have a full kitchen, a rec room with art books, board games, books, movies, private bathrooms and shower, comfortable beds, and even a shared firepit, which they provided us with firewood for free!

But all of that pales in comparison to how comfortable the hosts and volunteers made us feel during our stay. We had never been in a hostel until that point, and Kevin and Mo made us feel very welcomed when we first arrived and answered all of our questions. The hosts, Pat and Jalet, made it feel right at home, provided us with multiple points of interest around the area for us to explore, and were genuinely excellent people to get to know and talk to.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.
