The SMELL was awful.....it smelled like sewage throughout the house. We bought candles and air freshener, that did not help. We were quite disappointed with the kitchen, it was advertised to have 3 coffee makers (1 Kureg, 2 Pot coffee makers), the Kureg didn't work and there was only one coffee maker. We had 22 people staying here, so it was difficult to keep up with making coffee. Also, it was clear there was only 1 refrigerator in the listing, but that one fridge had broken/missing door shelves so you could only use the main part of the fridge. The pool was good, would have been nice to have screen doors on the french doors so we could open up the doors to let the heat out. What was SCARY though was the ELECTRIC JOLT you received when you grabbed the metal handle when getting out of the pool. This happened every single time you grabbed it. Something is clearly wrong and I hope nobody with a heart condition gets hurt. The air conditioning was not good either, upstairs was so incredibly hot and the thermostat is locked so we were unable to turn the air down. Several electrical outlets in the upstairs bedrooms didn't work which was just annoying.||The space was amazing, however. We had family from several states staying in this lodge and/or close-by and we all gathered there for dinners and to hang out at the pool. We never felt crowded and we loved all the couches to sit on in the living room and the huge lawn to hang out on.

Absolutely wonderful getaway!

The pool and hot tub were lovely (and I love that they have hot tub chemicals with instructions available to keep the hot tub from getting scummy during the stay), the couches and beds were comfy, the porch was exceptionally peaceful, and I'd say the bedroom sound reduction was the best I've experienced in these sorts of lodges (and I've done large group lodges MANY times with friends over the years).

I'll admit I was a little concerned about some of the other reviews, but we didn't experience any issues with the pool or plumbing at all. The kitchen was a little understocked for eating dishes and utensils for our large group (I think I counted 13 bowls for a lodge that sleeps 20?), but had every piece of cookware/pots/pans we could need. Cell coverage was low, but available, and wifi was working.

We are already discussing when our next trip will be!

We stayed at Southern Belle Lodge in March 2022. Based on our experience and the other reviews, they have a bad sewage problem. It will back up on you, and they will blame you and keep at least a portion of your deposit. They will not answer their phones... ever. We had a small problem, which turned into a big problem because they do not respond to phone calls. This ended with a lake of sewage in the basement, and them keeping $500 of our deposit. It's a nice property, but poorly poorly run. ||||There are many other nice, well run lodges in Ohio that can accommodate 15-20 people. Use them... not this one. Or be prepared to spend an extra $1,000 along with dealing with the sewage smell in the basement/pool area.

I had looked at the reviews and sent emails regarding some of the issues that I had seen. Each issue was addressed so i booked this property for our once a year family vacation.||We stayed four days and out of those 4 days sewage was in the basement/theater room of the property. The sewage came up through the shower and across the floor. To get to the pool, hot tub, or pool table you had to wade through the sewer water or go outside and come in through another door. The sewage smell is strong at the fire pit. The television in the theater room did not work(now I know why). My daughters and I put towels down in the floor to try to soak up as much as possible until someone came. the Maintenance man left a shop vac and my husband would shop vac sewage so we could go through the basement to the pool, which we ended up going outside and down the hill to the pool to use it. We were asked to only use the outside showers or the toilet in the pool room. This for 10 people! The maintenance man, the cleaning lady, and the plumber would just walk through the house with all of us just like family(no kidding)

Could be better. Family of 20 went for our Thanksgiving and there are a lot of good things about the house, but it needs work. Kitchen cannot accommodate a large group really. We all had to bring coolers and keep food on the porches. Some bathrooms need new faucet handles in the showers. One was unusable and 7 of us had to use the bathroom in the pool room for our showers. There was a leak under the kitchen sink - that they keep a bowl underneath to catch the leaky water that is GROSS! The oven was not clean. The microwave was dirty. The Keurig still had a pod in it and was disgusting, so we didn't use that. The two tv's that are there didn't work until someone came and got one working, but only manually. The WIFI didn't really work, but we think that was because a downed tree may have caused that.
Now for all the good stuff. The dining tables and chairs were great! We had 3 sets of games going on at once. The sofas were super comfy. The property overall was nice. The billiard table was great. The indoor pool was good, except getting shocked due to an electrical current that is running through it at times and gives a low volt shock sometimes.
With a little bit of work, it could be much better. We left a day early.

We stayed at Southern Belle Lodge, owned by Woodland Ridge Cabins in Hocking Hills over the spring 2020. It's a beautiful place, but the day we arrived, it smelled of sewer. The next day the downstairs bathroom and theater room had standing sewer that could be smelled from upstairs. They arrived and fixed the problem, only to have it flood the next day as well. When we complained, they accused us of deliberately flooding the basement. Worst vacation ever and terrible terrible people. Please don't stay there!

We would never rent from this company again. We rented this place for salt water pool and when we got there on Wednesday late afternoon the pool was cold and hot tub was cold.I called the office and they said they just found out on Tuesday that the heater needed a part. It just so happened that it needed a whole new heated and did not get fixed until friday and did not warm up until late friday afternoon. It was supposed to be salt water and the smell of chlorine burned your eyes and was awful. They refilled hot tub and that did not get warm until late wednesday night.It only had one Refrigerator, had the washer and dryer locked up, the water in the shower of pool room was cold, there was mouse droppings in the drawers in the kitchen, and so on!!! I would highly recommend Old Man Cave Chalets which is now Chalets! We have rented there 5 or 6 times and have no complaints! Was looking forward this this vacation and was not what we had planned!

Some positives --
• It was clean and spacious, as we expected from the pictures/description. We knew the kitchen would be small, so I won't comment on that, as other reviewers have. Come on guys.

• Plenty of seating inside and out for eating or lounging. The surrounding area is beautiful, obviously. Very peaceful.

Some gripes --
• Pool was cold, due to propane leak; never really warmed up during our 5 -day stay

• Persistent smell of sewage and/or propane around the fire pit and hot tub, which sort of ruined those spaces for us

• Fridge door had no guard rails -- so if you open the door at even a low-normal velocity, the entire contents of the door-shelves would crash to the floor

• No tupperware in the kitchen, kind of annoying; make it difficult to deal with meals; could have been specified "NO TUPPERWARE" in description

Overall, a decent cabin. For the issues above, I doubt we'll willingly stay here again, but it served its purpose.
