Went for tacos on a Tuesday with a homegirl, real impromptu. But now this will be our spot. Chante was an amazing server, knowledgeable, helpful and sweet. The music was great, the Dj was super smoothe and the food yummy. The corn was the best thing!!!! The Queso was fresh, chips crispy and a lot of taco options.

My wife and I really love this restaurant, we both enjoy the chill vibe and good sounds. The food is and has always been amazing since Being Cala , but the new slight changes in direction only emphasizes the attention to detail to food and culture. The aesthetic is really cool and cleaned up like a teenager who went away to college and came back home after their graduate year. Bravo to the chef and crew for evolving without loosing what makes them feel like home, We The Walkers are on Team Smash!

Do not order the fish tacos. At one time, they were good. They are served with coleslaw and cilantro. This is the piece of fish that came in my taco.
We want to support our black owned businesses, but they can make it so difficult. I would not want my restaurant associated with serving something like this.

The food here is PHENOMENAL I brought my wife here for Valentine’s Day and they had a special menu. We ordered the charred octopus and the birria tacos as an appetizer. The entrees is where we really fell in love. I had the lamb shank with mushroom risotto and my wife had the seared duck breast in tamarind sauce. The lamb paired with the mushroom risotto was so freaking good but the seared duck breast paired with the tamarind sauce was chef’s kiss 😘 seriously so much that we had to see the chef Shauna ourselves to tell her how much we appreciated it. Our waitress Shante came through with the service and drinks cause she did her thang with the “Smash my Lychee” drink. If you enjoy a great atmosphere and great food at a reasonable price, I recommend you check this place out you will not be disappointed. And the bartender Night Nite made my wife drink “Sorry not Sorrel” and she really poured it on thick lol.

This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants on the east side!

Location: This is the old Calabar and Grill location. It appears to be the same owners just a different food concept.

Parking: They have a free limited parking in the front of the restaurant but it’s plenty to park in the adjacent plaza parking lot for a very short walk.

Food: If you haven’t noticed by now, Mexican is my absolute fave! This is the BEST elotes that I’ve ever had. It has a jerk kick to it but it’s seasoned to perfection! I had the tacos - fish, cauliflower and shrimp and hubby had the oxtails birria. There was nothing left!

Ambiance: Again, this is the old Calabar so the sitting is still the exact same but it appears they have live music still which is a plus. It is kid friendly as we had our toddler with us as well.

On 2/20… Had dinner with my Chéri significant other my foodie bestie as well and she totally enjoyed the food and vibes. I am posting this review to report on my new fav @Smash The Mexican Street Salad was just perfect. I added black beans and chicken with this incredible pickled red onions!!!! So I was very excited to try out this new spot. First, let me start with the good. The drinks… 10/10 flavorful and strong. Waitress and hosts were nice and attentive. The bad. The food overall was not great. The oxtail empanadas were about 25%oxtail 75% crust. And they were too hard. The oil on the side that I assume was for dipping, just not flavorful. Tried a shrimp taco that wasn’t bad it was just bland. It may have actually had flavor but it was so spicy/hot I couldn’t tell. The biggest disappointment was the jerk street corn. The sauce was so hot that I couldn’t even enjoy it after two bites. Lips were numb and burning. I enjoy spicy food but Ya girl needed some milk. I will come back though cause anyone can have an off night and I wanna support a local black business.

automatically serve you with their Fresh unique corn chips and 3 types of salsa for free ....
at Frontera ( pictured below ) ...
Yet at SMASHES tacos and tequila you have to ask for them ... And they are no where near as good
