Today, The Slice Mob had the absolute honor of lunching at Sicily Coal Fired Pizza. We’re a group of lifelong friends whose bond goes back 50+ years. Every month, we gather to share memories, laughter, and—of course—amazing pizza. I’m beyond blessed to have these friends in my life.

Sicily is a cool spot located right on Main Street in Middletown, with the bonus of super-convenient parking by their rear entrance. No need to drive in circles scouting for a spot—huge win. We arrived as they opened, with a few early birds already enjoying their food and drinks. By the time we left, the place was hopping—almost like Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but with way better pizza (sorry, NY) 😂.

Nine of us strolled in unannounced and were immediately greeted by a friendly host who quickly got us set up. Our waitress, Dana, was incredibly patient and didn’t miss a beat, even as we took our time deciding on our pizzas.

We ordered a variety of pies, and while I couldn’t physically try them all—believe me, I wanted to—everyone raved about their choices. It’s safe to say we made the right call coming here.

As for me? Of course, I ordered two pizzas. Why wouldn’t I? First up was the New Haven—a thin crust with red sauce and Parmigiano Reggiano. It was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of smoky char. The sauce? Perfection. Not too sweet, not too acidic—just balanced in every way. I always judge a pizzeria by their most basic pizza, and this slice passed with flying colors. With one slice down, it was time to move on to round two.

Choosing my second pizza was tough. Two options caught my eye: the Broccoli Rabe and the Spicy Sicilian. Since I can be a little spicy myself—and my family hails from Sicily—the choice was obvious. The Spicy Sicilian did not disappoint. Thin crust, perfectly charred, with an incredible sauce as the foundation. Topped with mozzarella, salami, cherry peppers, and a drizzle of agave, this pizza was a masterpiece. Thankfully, the pizzaiolo had a light hand with the agave, striking the perfect balance between spicy and sweet. Too much could have ruined it, but instead, it was absolute bliss.

There were plenty of other tempting items on the menu, so a return trip is definitely in order—I’ve got my work cut out for me.

All in all, it was another fantastic lunch. The pizza was perfect, the service was stellar, and the memories shared with lifelong friends? Priceless.

First time visiting this restaurant and I enjoyed it very much. Large food portions, food was tasty and full of flavor. Excellent waitstaff and cool atmosphere. The restaurant had a band playing that was very talented. There is also a wine bar attached to the restaurant. Overall, a cool vibe.

We have been twice now. Dinner both times. Mashed potatoe pizza, beer and sangria. To start a bread with pepper salsa was brought to the table. The pizza was great. We were outside and service was phenomenal, waitstaff really hustle. Sorry no pics. Last inside Dinner, app was pretzel as big as my head with 3 dipping cheeses..beer/sangria..Harvest Apple salad with grilled chicken for me and porchetta grinder for him..bread and salsa given again..waitstaff attention was top notch..the food is diversified..NOT just typical Italian pasta, they have that too, but you want a pork chop, Okey dokey, haddock, it's there..burgers, and pretzels as big as my head..only thing I would complain about and it's just personal preference is the amount of salt on the pretzel, but it was easily rubbed off..if you haven't tried it stop in..they even advertise other local restaurants on the stair risers for the 2nd Floor, I told you waitstaff has to hustle..go ahead grab some pizza you won't be disappointed!

Great pizza spot in Downtown Middletown Ct. the food was a little slow coming out which is why they get a 3 out of 5. People that ordered after me got their food before me. I got the eggplant which was really really good and we got the whipped ricotta , which was equally as delicious. We went to celebrate a friend’s milestone, and there was about 25 of us. I don’t think they have a lot of experience catering to large parties. All in all, everyone seem to have had a good time and love the food.

Appetizer and the restaurant were great. Unfortunately, their Sicilian pizza was just bread that was separately baked with cheese and sauce on top. Maybe that’s the norm here, but the cheese literally peeled back to reveal a fully crusted bread. It was obvious that the sauce and cheese were topped after the fact and the bread was just reheated.

Chicken parm cigar appetizer was good

Great pizza. We ordered the Sicily after dark for me and my husband and a 1/2 mushroom 1/2 bacon and onion for our granddaughters. Wow wow. And that’s coming from a Hamden resident that only eats New Haven Pizza. The atmosphere was awesome. We didn’t sit outside because it was too hot out. Inside was a great looking place. They have a private party room downstairs and a second floor where I saw that they do comedy shows. Next time we go, I can’t wait to try the dinners.

I’ve been to Sicily 4-5 times over the years it was great, great food and service. We used to wait longer but i don’t mind cause the quality of the food was great. I’ve raved how good the food was that i brought my entire family for the first time and to my disappointment it’s was nothing how it taste before. We had under cooked foods and the pasta dishes wasn’t good. The braised beef one i thought it will be great since it was cooked for a while but it was not good. I’ve been here for lunch a little over a year ago and it was great. Idk what changed but it’s a big difference. Our waiter was amazing , so nice and understanding we didn’t want to be those ppl that complain a lot but the food needs to be address to the cooks because a lot of families goes there and for the prices of the dishes i wouldn’t go back based on the quality, the pizza probably the only good thing.

I had had a great time. I tried the coal fired wings which I had heard about from my neighbor. They were tasty, a rustic type flavor like your mom would have made, but better. My neighbor was probably expecting a buffalo wing, so I understand why he was confused by the onions.
The drinks were delicious, and on to the pizzas, they were alright! The Fig pizza had a nice flavor to it, and the Yolo pizza is basically a meatlovers. If you want anew Haven style char, this isn't quite that well done on the bottom, but still tasted great. I will absolutely return to try more of their menu, like their burgers that I have heard great things about. Our waiter was awesome too, quick, friendly and helpful with questions.
