The Riverview is a historic 1916 hotel in downtown St. Marys right across the street from the ferry to Cumberland Island, and has a very out-of-the-way feel to it, making it a relaxing stop. The rooms are comfortable and there is a public study on the second floor with a door out to the balcony with nice views of the town and the water, a great spot to drink a cup of coffee in the morning, weather permitting. The hotel restaurant is your standard Southern Seafood fare and is good quality. There is a light continental breakfast included with the cost of the room, but certainly won't impress (coffee, yogurt, and packaged pastries when we stayed). There was also a live band the night we were there, which was excellent.

Overall a great spot to stop for the night, take in some local history, and enjoy the small seaside town of Saint Marys.

Charming, quaint hotel. Furnished with period appropriate furniture. The beds and linens were very comfortable! Shawna was our front desk associate and she was welcoming, friendly and very professional. She went above and beyond to correct a kink in our room reservation. This hotel is very convenient to the Cumberland Island ferry which was our reason for visiting. We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in St. Mary's.

WOW! Awesome stay! This 108 yrs old hotel is super quaint. That being said if you are expecting a regular hotel room, this is not your place! But if you are into history and want a clean, comfortable and convenient place to stay, the Riverview hotel is the place. Read the reviews, they give you all the info you need. There are, as of this writing 2 one star reviews and 7 two star reviews. There are no rodents running around, in fact we didn’t see any bugs at all!and they really do have electrical outlets. Maybe not a bunch but you will survive. We stayed in room #18, St Mary’s little theatre. (Each room has a name and a number). The tub was huge! And clean! A great soaking tub with plenty of hot water. The beds and pillows and linens are super comfy. We stayed in the middle of July and the AC had no problems keeping up. As I write this review I think about exactly how unique this hotel is. So much better than a chain hotel. The town is quaint with a few restaurants and shops. The bar didn’t have live music that night so no noise issues. Staff was pleasant. Breakfast is basic continental but tastefully displayed. Be prepared to lug your belongings up and down the stairs as this is no elevator. All the rooms are on the 2nd floor.
Best part of our stay was meeting a local woman who was staying there to get away from her husband for the night. She was quite the character. We all sat in the rockers on the porch and heard all the local gossip. It was also fun to watch all the people passing by. Would DEFINITELY stay again!

We had a wonderful stay at the Riverview
Hotel. We unexpectedly found ourselves in St Mary’s Georgia when our car broke down on our way back home to Massachusetts. Riverview Hotel was recommended to us by our new friend Skyler we met at royalty auto. The hotel is a beautiful historic building, we had a gorgeous river view room, and the staff was so very friendly and accommodating. They were dog friendly, which we were very grateful for as we were traveling with our dogs. They were super understanding when we had to stay a bit longer than checkout while we tried to find a rental car to get us back home to mass. We hope to visit St Mary’s again, it was the most beautiful little town, and we for sure would stay at the Riverview.

This place is awesome from the most comfortable beds to the plumpest shrimp I've ever eaten. George your host is amazing and knows the history of this beautiful old hotel. Jacksonville readers this a great little getaway that's oh so close to home. Loved it so much going back for New Years Eve.

I have written a negative review of anything only once in my life. But, we were very disappointed with our stay at Riverview so I decided to write a review. After reading so many good reviews and looking at the options in St Mary's, we decided on Riverview even though it was a bit more expensive than some other options. Our disappointment began when we walked in and first met the rather grumpy and unfriendly receptionist. Her tone and demeanor were very different from what I experienced when I spoke with a gentleman a week earlier on the phone. The second disappointment was the room. It was actually terrible. It had no windows, it was dark and a bit dingy except when all of the lights were on, which were controlled by the same switch. There were only two other guest rooms that I could see were occupied so we could not understand why we were not in a room across the hall with a "river view." The third disappointment was that, unknown to us, all of the electric outlets went off when we turned off the lights so we woke up with phones that had not charged. The the final disappointment was the "breakfast" which was, quite honestly, terrible. We didn't bother but did go to an amazing coffee shop across the street. Riverview hotel was more like a $40/night flop house than a quaint hotel. Not worth the price at all. I am sorry to write this review but do think that potential guests should consider carefully and ask questions before booking. I would not return and would recommend friends to stay elsewhere.

We enjoy staying at the Riverview Hotel and having dinner before trips to Cumberland Island. Interesting historic hotel, helpful people, and good food in one place. Also, try a local draft beer at the bar.

I had an excellent experience at the Riverview Hotel. Everything was great. Friendly, helpful staff; cozy, pleasant and quiet rooms; super comfortable beds, lovely and inviting space, breezy veranda and the hotel has a charming historic character. I will stay here again! The reason I gave the rooms 4 stars is that a mini fridge in the room would have made it perfect.
