We were lucky enough to be married here in 2019. It was beautiful but we also had our fair share of issues with no resolution to be found by the staff. A storm had come through and knocked out power which also turns off the plumbing. We were not able to get ahold of the emergency services. Thankfully I have some handy people in my wedding who were able to get things up and running. Fast forward to Nov 2024, we were so excited to return with family and friends. This time we rented only the River Serenity cabin rather than the entire property. Upon arrival all the parking spots were taken by “the old manager” staying in the upper cabin and no one had any regard or consideration for other vehicles. I immediately had to call and ask for them to have vehicles moved since the driveway was icy and it was going to be difficult bringing in everything. The maintenance of the grounds and property has really went down hill. The staircase was falling apart, they barely laid down any snow melt which we had to go buy more of our own to make it safe for everyone to exit and enter the cabin. They left one small box of firewood not enough to even get a decent fire going in the pits. We had to go buy our own fire wood. Inside, they left one trash bag which that cabin sleeps quite a few people so you can imagine how much trash will be produced. They left the smallest amount of dish soap, one dishwasher pod, a tiny bit of laundry detergent. It supposed to be fully stocked but we had to go buy additional items. The kitchen pots and pans were in shambles, the microwave plug was broken, thankfully we had an extension cord to plug it in at a different outlet. Overall I was very disappointed and will not be returning unless significant improvements are made. When contacting the office I was able to reach someone rather quickly but excuses were given that a new management company took over so they weren’t aware of the state of things. When asked for a refund or partial return of funds it took weeks. According the management team the owner was sick and not reachable. If you are in the business of customer service, you need to be available to quickly approve an email for satisfaction purposes. I had to continue calling and reaching out until we had resolve. They did end up refunding a portion of the total. It’s a shame how they really let things go because it’s a beautiful place and holds special memories for us. But until they can fix it up and get things running up to standard that’s all it will continue to be, a memory.

We stayed here for an extended weekend. Red Setter is like an oasis in Arizona. There's a relaxing stream going through the center of the property, lots of activities, and log cabins and a lodge to stay in. The only down side is that the cadin that we were in needed more maintenance, several things were broken.

Our dream wedding had been planned 18 months in advance with signed contracts and deposits made. Issues started taking place in June, after the Red Setter was sold and had new management. The new management Point of Contact (Cathy) was inaccessible most times and on the chance, we did reach her, she was abrupt, bothered and seemingly uninterested.||||A new contract was never mentioned nor was one signed, and because of any discrepancies not brought to our attention, the DJ at our wedding was CONFRONTED AND THREATENED by the on-sight manager (Todd)!||||Days leading up to our wedding, we had an issue with a cabin that had been DOUBLE BOOKED. After a few phone calls to the PRIOR MANAGEMENT, our family was able to occupy the cabin. Also, the on-sight managers (Todd and Jill) assured us they would put up four wedding tents. Because Todd and Jill were unreachable, the wedding party ended up PUTTING THREE TENTS UP and the wedding planner ended up TAKING TWO TENTS DOWN.||||Not only did we encounter poor logistical mishaps, but the otherwise beautiful cabins also (RIVER SERENITY and THE LODGE) had their own setbacks. There was NOT ENOUGH towels to accommodate all the guests. The linen on the beds were BLOOD STAINED and DIRTY. There were the unsanitary PILES OF DIRTY LINEN shoved away in a downstairs closet. The carpets were STAINED. The dishes in the cabinets and utensils in the drawers WERE DIRTY. Back burners on the stove were INOPERABLE for a five-bedroom cabin supposedly able to cook for at least 10 people. Many OUTLETS AND LIGHTS were NOT WORKING and WIRES HUNG DOWN from a light fixture. A doorknob came off in an upstairs room and four of our little kids WERE LOCKED IN! An outdoor railing was MISSING, and one little boy FELL THROUGH IT (unhurt)!!||||It’s an absolute shame that our family’s otherwise joyous celebration was marred by rude and listless staff, failed agreements, inadequate promises and overall neglect at the beautiful Red Setter Retreat.||||VACATIONER’S BEWARE!!!! Before you spend your hard-earned money on a vacation here, it would be wise to check if the new owners have done any MAINTENACE, REPAIRS and DEEP CLEANING along with the new hiring of staff who treat guests with CORDIALITY and CONSIDERATION and actually perform the duties needed for an enjoyable stay!!! For the luxury price tag, it's a shame the outdoor beauty didn't match the quality we deserved!

We stay in this cabin every year and every year there seems to be new problems. This year's list is:
Dryers don't dry
No air flow in kitchen (It gets wayyyy to hot in the kitchen)
Not enough towels
Bats in rooms (Yes, there were Bats in a room.)
Not enough hot water for everyone
No main key (To open every door, like when your whole large family is staying, that would be nice to have).

All n all I would recommend staying, just be prepared for those issues.

I highly recommend reviewing the reviews before booking a cabin, all of them are true. I went with friends, arrived at 4 pm and no key was left for us, we had to hunt down someone to open the door, we then had to wait as the beds had not been made. They did not leave us with a key, no instructions on anything, no hygienic products in bathrooms, some windows wouldn't open, blinds missing, dirty windows, dirty grill, dirty rug smelled like urine, we had to leave door open for fresh air. Lawn chairs in need of repair and general maintenance of the cabin. For the money spent we were expecting luxury and found none. They had also messed up our reservation and they scheduled for another week, we should have just canceled.

I would not recommend this place. I stayed here 10 years ago and the place was exceptional. Turn the clock forward to 2024 and this place has not been kept up. We tried to check in at 4 and door was locked, had to call to find out what was going on. They sent someone over to prepare the cabin, which was never cleaned before we got there. Several windows could not be open, cabin smelled of animal urine, outdoor patio was filthy and the outdoor grill was disgusting. It’s a shame they let this beautiful property go to waste.

They say you can't judge a book by its cover... Red Setter is Incredibly beautiful lodge, located in a sublime setting, but once you open the door, it's not so pretty. We stayed six days in the River Haven cabin. Refrigerator froze nearly all of $300 groceries on the lowest setting. Dripping tap in the jacuzzi, kitchen had very poor lighting, no floor lamp or lighting in the living room, so you could only read in bed at night, and moldy bathroom made for an unpleasant stay We have been told that Red Setter was once considered one of the top 10 B&B’s in the USA. The property is an Arizona treasure. Too bad the current owner has let the property go down hill.

Greer has always been a family favorite of ours. I reached out to them to let them know because it's our favorite place, that we wanted to get married there. First, I left a voice message with an actual individual via calling their # on the website. No call back. Then, I leave a written message on their website, detailing our inquiry with my contact info again. Still no call back. So, the third time, we found their listing on Airbnb and, again, inquired. Jill did respond kindly and asked if we'd like a list of vendors. I said absolutely, and also reiterated that I had left a vm and message via their website, and I believe I had asked a simple question. Her response back felt very rude and in caps: "IM WORKING AT THE MOMENT BUT I WILL GET BACK WITH YOU ASAP."
I say "OK thank you." 3 days after that, she reaches back out with "... we don't have your contact information. " Really? Where did it go?

That struck a nerve when we had already put in the effort multiple times over a period of almost a week.

Before this inquiry, we took the time to read all recent reviews and could see there was a change in management with a couple of unhappy guests. 🙁

They are unorganized and left me feeling uncared for. Every other venue we've contacted has handled us with great care, organization, and kind - proper follow-up. It's not that hard.

Why would anyone want to book when there is a palpable lack of organization and care?

Beware.
