If you like birds this is a great place to stay! We were in cabin 1 which was very comfortable, but if you can stay in the lodge do it! It is a beautiful early 20th century building. It was closed when we stayed here but the maintenance guy let us in to look around. I hope we can stay there in the future. Very peaceful and a good location for visiting Crater lake national Park. I wish we were staying longer!

The location and accomodations are fantastic. Everything is incredibly cute and comfortable. The lake is beautiful and it's not far from Crater Lake National Park. However the service is frankly terrible. We weren't able to check in until 7:00pm and we weren't even given keys or instructions on how to check in, out, or use half the services offered. Not to mention there was a "booking error" where we somehow accidentally booked the entire lodge instead of just one of the cabins. I would give them another chance, but call ahead of time and sort things out. Their website leaves much to be desired.

Got off to a bad start due to a total lack of responsiveness to a 3:00 telephone call on a Tuesday afternoon to the Lodge caretaker as per owners instructions. It was to inquire about road conditions that were continuing to deteriorate on 12/30. Having never been in the area, although we had an excellent 4WD, we were without chains, lacking knowledge of elevation and conditions entailed on roads accessing the property. We were seeking reassurance, personal, local knowledge, direction and/or suggestions. We placed a second phone call to David the caretaker about an hour later, left another plead for response followed up by a second call to the main Lodge phone number which was previously answered by the owners - no answer, voice mail was full. We were trying to decide whether to abort our mission of getting there or proceed despite the extreme weather and concern for our physical well-being. Loosing our $330 for two nights was a non-issue. It was a personal safety issue. We were bewildered by the lack of responsiveness of management.

Although VERY challenging and concerning we arrived safely at about 6 pm. NO response, not a peep until the next day at 10 am. Caretaker said, "I had left my phone in my truck." I was curt and apologized for having a bad attitude and the call was ended.

Front entrance is not lighted at all. So, imagine it being pitch black, during heavy snow fall, trying to find some where you've never been... had we not had our GPS we wouldn't have been able to locate the property.

Only because I had called with road concerns did I get told by the owner that the front door to Cabin #1 would be left unlocked and the key would be on the kitchen table since the keyless lock was malfunctioning. If I hadn't called to inquire about road conditions, how would we have known what to do to gain access? Although she referred us to David the caretaker about the road concerns she was able to let us in on that unknown and potential access issue. That too could have been very bad in light of the unavailable caretaker.

In light of the lack of response to our first easy to address issue prior to our arrival, we suspected it likely correlated with cleanliness. First thing I did was wipe down every high contact area with Chlorox wipes, washed all the eating utensils, two plates, coffee cups and glasses for our use. We couldn't risk being exposed to COVID-19 being in our mid and late-60s plus my husband is immune compromised.

Now, about the property: Quaint, cozy and dated lake cottage. A fisherman's cabin, but don't look too close.

While the cabin had some interesting and attractive wall art, light fixtures and subtle updates which were nice: kitchen counter back splash, bathroom tile and vanity, newer televisions... things like the 20 year old Mr Coffee maker which is badly stained and tattered chair upholstery is due for replacement. There is DirectTV which was a plus.

Breakfast preparation required cleaning the pans, stove top and element tray which was full of grease. So much that you had to be careful not to spill it as you moved to the sink to clean it. No issue now, we cleaned under the stove top and all four elements.

There is no central heat source in the cabin. There are two portable oil radiator style heaters to be supplemented by a wood stove. Last night, fortunately, it only went down to 30°.

Potentially a beautiful setting that wins over well-appointed AirBnBs. Comes down to what's important? Clean, quality creature comforts or views? Basically, this is a well-located, rustic cabin of the ilk of Hotel 6 with with a marginally- appointed kitchen (only one teaspoon, dirty appliances), comfortable king sized bed and an unresponsive staff. As long as you keep your expectations low and have no needs to communicate it's ideal.
