When we go to strawberry, coming from our cabin in pine, we like to enjoy empanadas from PieBar. I like that they are flour crust and filled with a variety of fillings with various sauces. The kids love the sweet ones and I love the savory ones with the spicy chimichurry.

Delicious empanadas. Will say the name is a bit deceiving as they sell empanadas not pies. They have pies for sale but from a third party vendor. Good variety to choose from. We had food and all were fresh and tasty. All outside seating with a pet friendly patio.

Driving backroads from Santa Fe to Phoenix we stumbled upon the village of Strawberry, AZ and this cool little place called the Pie Bar. We loved our impromptu lunch there on a beautiful October afternoon. The restaurant has ample seating in several shaded, outdoor, dog-friendly areas. In this case, “pie“ means empanadas, savory or sweet. I’m usually not much of an enchilada guy, but I made an exception for this joint. They have a broad and nontraditional selection of savory pies, such as chicken pot pie (we ate one and got another), Philly Cheesesteak (it was a good representation of the taste I recall from my time living in Philly), and Bar-B-Que Pork (Yum! My fave). They are small enough that you can wolf down several different offerings, especially if you’re sharing, as we were, and the fillings shine and are not overpowered by the dough. Same for the sweet pies. As we enjoyed well-stuffed Bananas Foster and Molten Chocolate pies, I dreamed of combining the two. There are several dipping sauces available for the savory pies but we loved them without dipping. Beer and wine are also available. Next trip, we will alter our route to make sure we stop here.

The empanadas were fresh, hot, & super yummy. We ordered the buffalo chicken pie & the red chili pie. It was evident that the food is made with love by folks who care about great taste.

This place is a gem best empanadas around we love coming up here for a weekend cruise great atmosphere great people bomb food tried pretty much all they have gotta try at least once.
