Google wants a star rating on "Rooms". I can't do that, it's a campground. I will say,the staff was great, invisible, unless we needed something or if a site was being cleaned after someone checked out, which is what you want in a campground. Bathrooms are dated, but clean and nice. Location, wow! What a beautiful place. We had a spot with a great lake view. There's plenty of places close by if you need essentials or want to go out for lunch or dinner. This is a great spot to get away from it all.

This visit was an eye-opener about the beauty and joy you can get from simply being on this camp ground. It has all the amenities for a nice camping trip, showers, laundry, and well-maintained roads to get to your camping spot. You can visit with your camper, rv, or simply tenting is good too.

What really blew me away were the views on the water, the sandy beaches and coves. The lake was teeming with activity but never overcrowded. See some of the views I was able to catch and come see for yourself.

I'm someone who always uses their sporadic day off to go camping.

Once you make a reservation online, you should receive a call, where they give you the gate code and gladly answer any questions you may have. The office hours for registration are from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm. Once you arrive, park to the side and enter the building to register, and they will give you directions to your camping spot.

Old Federal Campground is by far my favorite. The hosts are the kindest people who are protective of their home. You will never have to worry about outsiders or break-ins with them around.

My camping spot has all of my favorite things - lapping waves against the rocks, gentle breezes that rustle lightly through the trees, a variety of harmless wildlife all around. From my spot, the sunrise and sunset sparkle beautifully with an array of colors, reflected in harmony on the lake. I also loved the mountain views off into the distance.

The bathrooms are spotless, and there is not a single piece of litter to be found on the entire property at any time.

The hosts and campground staff take great pride in where they are, and it shows. I want to thank them for such a lovely time, and I can't wait to come back!

We stayed here for the first time the week of July 21st, 2024.
The office staff at check-in were really helpful and friendly.
We stayed in site 44. The site had beautiful views of the lake. Seriously, the views were probably the prettiest of any campground we've stayed at this year.
However, with that being said, the grass was over a foot tall.... Probably closer to 18 inches tall. I spoke to the office about the grass, and was told they can't cut the grass when someone is on the site. I understand that partially, however the site across from us was vacant for 3 days and that grass was not cut either. It was also growing up in the site area.
Because the grass was so tall, the bugs were awful. I bought two bug zappers while we were there and still could not sit outside.
On the day we arrived there were so many geese in our spot that we could not walk more than 12 to 15 inches without stepping in a pile of goose crap. The park really can't do anything about that, but with the grass being so tall, it's hard to see/ avoid poop.
The grass was so tall that our dogs did not even like walking in it to go potty.
I would have loved to have walked down to the lake since we were only 20 ft from the water's edge, but between the goose crap and the possibility of snakes, and all the bugs, I opted not to.
It also smelled like sewage outside.
I'm not sure where the smell is coming from, but it was bad enough that I spent a beautiful week inside the camper instead of being able to sit outside.
It's really a shame because this campground is so beautiful and it is so close to the water. With very minimal effort it could be so much more.
There is a sailing club nearby and it was neat to see them out and practicing in the evening. The sunrise and sunset are quite beautiful at this campground.

It's called Old Federal CAMPGROUND, not hotel. So I'm not answering "hotel" questions. The Campground was wonderful. Staff was friendly and the sites were perfect. Great view of Lake Lanierfrom just about any site.
