Dog friendly hotel nestled in the mountain, near hiking trails. The Jacuzzi didn't work, they do not have a proper restaurant, more like a bar snack kitchen, and the service was less attentive than we'd like. The tub was not wiped out properly. We also felt the price was a bit high for what we got, essentially a king bed and fireplace near trails with nice views. The included breakfast was nice, but they suggest a $7/ plate gratuity for bringing it to the table (and clearing).

This is a place you won’t forget - stunning views of the redwoods and beyond to SF bay, full of charm and such friendly staff. It’s not your typical 5 star hotel if you are comparing to the big chain hotels, but what you get is something far more special. Incredible nature all around you, a homely warmth to the place, gorgeous local wines to enjoy on their terrace and waking up to breathtaking landscape. What a gem of a place

My stay at Mountain Home Inn was thoroughly disappointing, plagued by pervasive filth and shocking neglect. The room was unclean, with dust blanketing surfaces, cobwebs draped above the TV, a stained carpet, and someone else’s food festering in the microwave. The coffee machine was grimy, never rinsed. The property/furniture was outdated and falling apart: a broken glass lampshade, a loose back door doorknob, and a non-functional bathroom heater. The walls were scarred with gashes and scuff marks, adding to the rundown feel.|The bathroom was appalling. The shower, a copper pipe rigged above a non-operable jacuzzi tub, would be inaccessible for many, with a disgusting, moldy shower curtain. The toilet had a yellow ring and a wobbly seat, while the sink drained painfully slowly. A dim bulb made the space feel like a cave, and a hole in the wall from a bathrobe hook—caused by a broken doorstop—went unfixed. The blow dryer, plugged into a faulty GFI outlet, was unusable in the bathroom, forcing use in the bedroom, which lacks a mirror. Rusted miniblinds on a window between the bedroom and bathroom, filthy ceiling and floor vents, and cracked silicone caulking on the tub’s tile and grout screamed neglect/unprofessional. Only one towel rack meant wet towels had nowhere to dry, and we had to request a room refresh after the second night, which should’ve been standard.|Outside, the table and chairs were caked in dirt, completely unusable. This B&B’s failure to maintain basic cleanliness and functionality made our stay miserable. Major improvements/new ownership are essential before it’s remotely recommendable.

The place is being sold. Hope the new owners keep it in good condition. Had lunch and snacks after a hike many times before. A nice view and the food was good, now they serve just a few snacks which are pre made. The menu is limited, and the food is not so tasty. I had a quiche, which was saggy.

We stayed one night in room 5 at the Mountain Home Inn. The location of the inn is awesome. Across the street from the trailhead, easy access to biking/hiking. The staff was very friendly and helpful, although the inn was understaff with one person doing checking and bar service at the same time.

What's very unfortunate is that the inn is in a pretty bad state of disrepair. They advertise as rustic 5 star hotel, but it's just ill maintained, and most definitely not 5 star. Our room was also pretty dirty and dusty.

Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend it, given that it's very expensive and you're not really getting what you pay for.

As a nature-focused wedding photographer, there is no greater venue and accommodation for capturing a couple in such a cozy and beautiful environment. Located right near Muir Woods and Mount Tam - it's the perfect wedding spot. Albert and Jacquelyn are amazing and have the best suggestions of hidden gems in the area and create such a friendly environment. Highly recommended if you're looking for a short staycation close to San Francisco too!

Location location location. Atop the Muir Redwood preserve is a quaint historic fixture. It’s old and classic and while an update was done in the 80s it could use a refresher. TV service (not that you should need such a thing above a wilderness preserve) is antiquated and terrible trying to use two remotes with +80 button options and an untold 100s of worthless channels (come on, ditch 1990s olde school satellite services). Get a single Starlink antenna and stream a few mainstream services like Netflix or Apple TV and put a wire antenna outside (you’re on a mountain top) and get FREE broadcast ABC,NBC, CBS. Plus way fast internet. Or just remove all the TVs and focus on a real nature experience.
End of winter accommodations without the 4 star restaurant are a huge disappointment (the only reason not dinging further is because of previous emails declaring restaurant is closed). Ok, but consider dropping room rates 25% during winter. The mention of driving the treacherous road at night to restaurants down in Mill valley are non starters. DoorDash and equivalent isn’t the allure as during Covid. Nothing like onsite restaurant.
The good stuff: great views of the bay, nice sunrise. Excellent knowledgable staff like Albert are what make this a 3 star review instead of one or two star.
Rooms are nice, clean, but quirky: 3 outlets in our room had only one receptacle working. A few unplugged lights and appliances (see previous sentence). Dimming lights all flicker. Very nice real wood burning fireplace, but if you’re going to pre-build the firewood please use kindling as a wad of news paper only makes brief smoke (good thing I brought my Swiss Army knife).Door hanging breakfast tags NEVER get picked up so why did we fill those out? Nice cleaning staff.
Invest in modern internet, fix electrical fixtures, keep your excellent staff and moderate your off season rates if you can’t afford staffing your restaurant which is the main reason we booked before cancelled service.

Not a 5 star hotel. Rooms were tired and worn, some stains on walls and ceilings. Views were nice and access to trails is nice. Few food options, no restaurant on site. One overworked housekeeper. Drive to and from town at night is harrowing, don't drink at dinner. Can't recommend.
