The 4 nights we spent at Mescal Canyon Resort was a completely relaxing! Our room was perfect, we were able to cook dinner in the Canyon Studio and even took advantage of the fresh veggies in the garden! Took a hike up the mountain above the vineyard as well as into the canyon and both were equally enjoyable. Shell gave us lots of great tips and provided wonderfully delicious gluten free baked goods each morning. We even took advantage of the gourmet breakfast option our last morning before we checked out and it was amazing! My favorite was enjoying the chemical free hot tub with the full moon and only the sounds of the birds around us... the humming birds in the morning on the Canyon Studio porch were also delightful. We definitely want to come back the first chance we get!

I treated myself to a weekend at this beautiful Inn last May before a business trip. One reason I chose to stay at the Inn was that the price was much more reasonable than staying in Sedona. However, I can honestly say that I would chose this Inn over the fancy Spa I previously stayed at in Sedona if I ever return to the area. I stayed in the Sage room, which was small, but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served at the time of my choice and was fresh and delicious. The grounds were thoughtfully and beautifully landscaped, but fit in with the natural environment and not overly manicured. There were so many beautiful flowers and birds that I spent quite a bit of time just wondering around. I especially enjoyed sitting in the hot tub area one night and gazing at the stars. I love to hike and really enjoyed walking up into the canyon with the dogs. Although the trail was easy to follow, I was by myself and having the dogs looking out for me was very comforting. The Inn feels very remote but is only about a 10 minute drive to the town of Cottonwood, which I found to be a nice place to get dinner and enjoy a glass of wine at one of the tasting rooms. Also very near is the town of Jerome, which I think is more interesting and enjoyable to visit than Sedona. I highly recommend staying at this Inn if you have the opportunity.

My wife surprised me with a 2 day getaway for my birthday. i had no idea what we were getting into, just got to follow turn by turn directions via her phone. When we got to the gravel road entryway toward the end, i was intrigued. The location at the end of the road......ah!!!!!!!!||||Everything was solar powered. Everything on the property designed and built by the owners, dating back to the 70s. Beautiful buildings, incredible ground.....all self sustaining. A wonderful new experience.||||There are two rooms, and this Sunday/Monday, we were the only guests. We had our own space, including a private patio and the hot tub to ourselves. We enjoyed the hot tub area in the evening with the amazing star show being away from lights provides in this part of Arizona. We stopped at Safeway for picnic goodies, opened a bottle of the wine we brought with us, and enjoyed private dinners both nights. There is also a mini refrigerator for guest use which allowed us to keep things cold for both nights dinners.||||Our property companions were the two dogs and three cats who reside on the property. The dogs took us for a hike up into the canyon our first evening, and promptly left us to herd a group of cattle. They returned to be sure we found our way back to the inn. Good dogs!||||Breakfast was at our time of choice (8:30) both mornings. Fresh eggs, fresh fruit, gluten free muffins and coffee the first morning; gf pancakes, fruit and coffee the next. Company included lots of birds and song both mornings. Wonderful view of the gardens, trees and canyon.||||Our room was small but comfortable. The room has heating, but only an overhead fan for cooling. If You like it cool, be careful when You book into late spring. ||||The king size bed in our Gold room was excellent. The room was exceptionally quiet, and the morning wake up calls from the cows across the canyon were only heard after we opened our door.||||Our hostess was very willing to answer the myriad of questions we had about the building process, gardens, solar system etc. We had a great stay and learned quite a bit about living off the grid.||||Jerome, Cottonwood, shopping and sightseeing are all nearby. This is an excellent place to stay.

The Mescal Canyon Retreat is not just a B&B but a bit of an experience in sustainable living. The owners of the retreat met at Arcosanti, the experimental urban community 40 miles to the south of the inn. Not surprisingly, the "off the grid" inn incorporates both the architectural ideals and commitment to sustainable design developed by Paolo Soleri.||||While there are some nuances to staying hear we would definitely recommend the inn and stay here again.||||Our room was small but comfortable. The sliding door gave us a nice morning view of the canyon. It also gave us a view of the owner's energetic and friendly dogs, Ayla and Moki who would come and visit us at sunlight. Ayla and Moki are mid sized working dogs who stay outside at night and keep the house and garden compound free of coyotes' and javelina's. Without in anyway being disruptive, they are quite keen on guests and enjoy the attention. ||||They both accompanied us for a while as we walked up the canyon for a mile or two. The canyon trail along the riverbed is a nice way to get away from nearby Cottonwood and Clarkdale. While this is just a very short drive out of town, the inn and canyon feel quite remote. I think that I would be very tempted to use the inn as a base for visits to Sedona, Jerome and Arcosanti. The price is much more reasonable and both Sedona and Jerome have their district downsides as places to stay. Sedona is quite crowded and Jerome, while interesting during the day, is a little creepy at night.||||We stayed in the Sage Room which is the smaller of the two B&B rooms. Entering the shower is a bit of tight squeeze but perfectly functional and comfortable once you get in. Our visit occurred during mid-winter and we found that the heater kept our room quite warm. Personally, I liked the fact that rooms are accessed from the outside and are not part of the main house. It gave us another excuse to be outside. ||||One small annoyance is that the wifi didn't really work in our bedroom and only really worked in the breakfast room. Since this common space is part of the owners house this area isn't really accessible during the day. The lack of wifi made it a little hard to research places to visit during the day with our mobile devices. If wifi access is important to you, I would be tempted to ask if they have extended access to wifi to the guest rooms. The owners are also constructing an inside common space for the use of the B&B guests. I would also be tempted to ask where they are in the midst of that project particularly if you are planning to stay in mid winter. During the summer, there are pliantly of places to be outside during the day and night.||||Breakfast was both tasty and quite healthy. The portions were ample but not overdone. Breakfast is served in the owners kitchens. Both mornings we found ourselves striking up a conversation with the owners or their daughter and son-in-law that both help to make and serve breakfast. One very nice aspect of our stay was the responsiveness of our hosts. On our first day I mentioned that I didn't drink caffeinated coffee. They didn't have any that day but the next morning they made the effort to go out and pick up some up.

We found this lovely B&B through AirBNB. They had many superb ratings. They were well founded. The property they are on is surrounded by public lands on three sides. So there is natural beauty for as far as the eyes can see. Our room had everything needed for a relaxing, 'off the grid' stay. They have a remote outdoor hot tub overlooking the beautiful desert scape. All of their rooms were hand built by our architect-mason host. An wonderful organic breakfast just topped off our stay. I hope to be able to return on a future visit.

I had the honor to marry a couple here in April, 2017. They found a magical stone circle off of a hiking path and a hawk called overhead while they were being married. It was amazing! The property was stunning with something beautiful to see around every corner. The hot tub was situated overlooking the rolling mountainside. The owners were very friendly and many affectionate pets paraded the property.

My husband and I visited Mescal Canyon Retreat a couple years ago. The owners were so sweet and generous. We enjoyed the homemade breakfast and had a wonderful time going on guided hikes by their dog Ayla. The view from the hot tub at night was breathtaking. I highly recommend visiting!
