Such a cute coffee shop with amazing staff!

I've visited this location maybe 30 times this past year, and have never never had a customer service or food issue. Granted I've only gotten food a couple times and virtually only buy tea, but the food I got was delicious (the Amanh pastry).

Why I mention amazing staff is they're always fun and friendly to chat with, make good suggestions, and are super creative. I'm visiting today for Valentine's Day, and they did an amazing job with the decorations and Valentine's themed ice cream flavors. Apparently Lucy here did most of it, so she's a gem!

So, the cats out of the bag -- this place has bomb coffee. I used to be a veteran of this place, coming almost everyday for coffee.

However, this is the first place I've ever been kicked out of. I used to use their punch card daily that gives you a free item after so many purchases, but often it would get stuck in my wallet. I often work on cars and work with my hands, so my wallets get pretty messed up quickly.

This poses a problem when there's 20 people in line behind me in the morning, so I decided to start forgoing using it to not have a negative impact on their business.

After two or three years of never using it, the topic of the punch card came up with staff, along with the idea of a digital reward system. While on the topic, I asked if I could be comped a coffee, after explaining the difficulty using the punch card. I've probably missed out on like 60 something reward coffees. Most of the staff used to see me in the morning there everyday, so I'm sure they knew I was telling the truth.

Their answer was no; I was fine with their answer either way & I still tipped/thanked them regardless. I also never order anything without tipping over 20%.

Needless to say, I was banned from the coffee shop the next day.

People talk shit about the owner, but I've had nothing but positive interactions with him. Apparently once I "took his parking spot" and from what the staff says, its common for the owner to "box you in" while parked in his spot....as some form of retribution? I talked to him and he was very nice/polite, he ended up moving his truck immediately for me.

It's hard to know exactly where this came from but at the time, there was a female manager that appeared to be quite young. I could totally see her making the decision to ban a customer out of a self-important-esq catty-like response. She was quite condescending to me on that day but I took it on the chin, and kept on moving along with my day

There was one barista named Jen? who was brimming with empathy, & another that showed me acts of kindness. I once came in covered in too much car grease, fiending for their coffee & unfortunately, someone was in the bathroom for over ten minutes. She let me into the back so I could wash my hands to order without causing a mess. It's these small acts that win my business long-term, and not something I easily forget.

It seems like most of the staff who are like this genuinely only stay for a short period of time. I feel like everyone could take a page out of their book to learn how to treat/relate to customers & probably people in general.

We all live and work together in a community; we should start acting like we are one.

Silver lining: the baristas told me about the show Gilmore Girls and as a guy, I starting watching it. Good show.

The owner of the business is very rude and I have seen this behavior myself. I watched him speak to his employees in a disrespectful way which is not acceptable. He also treated a security guard poorly showing a lack of respect for others. This kind of attitude creates a negative atmosphere and makes it hard for people to feel comfortable. Because of this I will never visit his business or support it in any way.

Warning: Not for anyone in a hurry. They have some interesting baked goods, great ice cream, and decent coffee, but they handle customers the old fashioned way. They take and then make every order rather than streamlining and integrating. Since there is often only one worker up front, this can lead to long wait times.

The staff are nice and I can usually afford to wait, but they only get my business because of proximity, not service.

Great place. Once you try a bag of Lost Dutchman's fresh roasted coffee you will NEVER go back to grocery store coffee. Order on-line, pick your favorite bean (or try a new one) and it’s usually fresh roasted in 1-3 days for pickup. Or if you’re lucky, you can grab a bag in the store if its not all sold out.

They also make a great cappuccino, and the girls behind the counter are always very friendly and they even take the time to talk to this old guy!

You wont be sorry. Walk, bike, drive there, order your favorite coffee drink and hang out for a bit! It’s worth the trip.

This place is awesome. Super nice people, really good coffee, tasty treats and a very comfortable atmosphere.
In addition to their coffee, you can grab homemade ice cream or something else sweet like a peanut butter bite or a cookie dough bite. These small treats are good and certainly won't break the bank.
The place is easy to find in convenient downtown Mesa.
Seriously, add this one to your list. You won't be disappointed.
