My wife and I had the most extraordinary weekend at the Leaping Lamb Farm on a recent trip to visit our daughter at OSU. We didn't expect how amazing it would be. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, nestled in a narrow canyon surround by fields and forests with a creek running through the property. Scottie and Gregg were amazing hosts. We joined Scottie for the morning chores of feeding the chickens, goats, sheep and horses and got a chance to experience a little bit of what life on the farm is like. And we made our breakfast with eggs straight from the chicken coop that morning. How special is that! I started reading the copy of Scottie's memoir "Country Grit" on display in the cottage but didn't get a chance to finish, so I bought a copy from her to finish at home. I highly recommend it. Her journey is absolutely fascinating and compelling, and we can't wait to return to that little slice of heaven for another visit.

Wonderful retreat…cottage was perfect…staff was engaging…hikes were a bit muddy…and the animals were amazing. Highly recommended for those wanting (or needing) to step off the carousel for a few days…thank you Scottie, Greg, TK and your supporting cast of warm and fuzzy creatures.

The perfect place to make family memories! It was our first time visiting all the way from Florida with our in laws and 5 and 7 year old girls. We stayed at the farmhouse and there was plenty of space for all of us. It had so much character and charm along with all the things you would need to have a comfortable stay for several days (all the cooking essentials, personal care items, plenty of linens and towels). We did our grocery shopping in Corvallis on our way to the farm and I am so thankful we did because our girls did not want to leave once we got there!

My daughters’ favorite parts were “chores” (feeding the animals), finding eggs in the chicken coupe, and picking fresh fruit from the bushes and trees. We caught grasshoppers in the fields and went on many hikes. We walked through the creek and spotted crawdads and newts. We got lucky enough to be in town for the Alsea’s annual blackberry festival. The people were so friendly and generous with letting us try their homemade desserts and paint river rocks.

Another family stayed at the cottage at the end of our trip and our families quickly became friends and now own pals. We spent a few days at the coast as well but our girls were asking to go back to the farm and we wish we would have stayed the entire trip. We will not be able to top this vacation so we will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our time at Leaping Lamb and would consider coming back. We stayed in the cottage, which was nice, like an Airbnb with the bonus of caring for animals in the morning and evening.

The staff and owners were wonderful and very friendly. They did their best to make our stay enjoyable. My three-year-old daughter loved interacting with the animals and finding fresh eggs.

A few things to note that might help you temper your expectations.

- We were excited about gardening and picking produce, but there wasn't much to pick. The garden seemed neglected and nothing was ripe. It seemed like the farm might be in a management transition, and the garden got overlooked. This was disappointing, but we still had a great time.

- The farm shares that they provide some grocery staples like bread, milk, and fruit, they were store-bought, not farm-fresh as we expected. If we had known this in advance, we would have purchased our own items of this sort.

- The advertised creek wasn't suitable for swimming. It was only ankle-deep and not very clean due to its proximity to farmland. However, we found other swimming spots nearby, one across the river from Debs where we also enjoyed milkshakes.

Overall, it was a great experience and would consider coming back again, perhaps in a shoulder season when prices were a bit lower.

Our time at Leaping Lamb Farm could not have gone any better! Scottie was genuine, knowledgeable, and generous with their beautiful property. We went on a brief hike around the forest before enjoying a peaceful lunch watching the horses. We spent the rest of the day with the baby animals and admiring the nature around us. I don't think I have said "awe" as many times as I did today ever before. The baby goats and little lambs were so entertaining. We stayed for only a day and cannot wait to return for more.

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Leaping Lamb Farm. Scottie was a gracious host and the farm and cottage were just beautiful. We feel blessed that the folks stewarding the land and animals are so willing to share it with outsiders; we learned a ton and had a marvelous time roaming around, enjoying the area and interacting with the animals. I recommend picking up Scottie’s excellent book to learn more about their journey!

Leaping Farm anytime of the year is beyond incredible, the Spring is everything! Baby animals, green pastures, and flowing streams to sit by amongst the animals. We have been coming here from Los Angeles since they were very young and the farm still brings so much joy to my now teenage boys, 13 and almost 17. They love that they have so much freedom and space to roam. But it doesn't matter when you come, it will always readjust your nervous system and bring you joy and calm. We have stayed in both the cottage and the farm house. Both are fantastic depending on how many people you have (we included my sons girlfriend this year and even with a blow up mattress in the living room and two bedrooms it was a little tight for 4 adult size people) We had the pleasure of meeting TK the new manager this time and my boys helped him with cleaning up after the rains which they loved. Its a lovely 40 minute drive to the coast which we do every visit and we are never ever bored. Scottie the owner is a marvel to me, she is such an inspiration to me and her hospitality surpasses anything I have ever encountered on a vacation.

This was our second trip to the farm and it didn't disappoint! We love this specific place because you really get to dig in to as much farm life as you want. You can just skip it all and stay in your house or do chores like tagging baby lambs, mucking stalls, running electric fencing, or fixing fence posts. If you go in the spring, be prepared to get muddy and dirty. There is a large selection of muck boots available at each house so you might get lucky and find some that fit you if you don't have your own. We're already trying to figure out when we can head back for a third time!
