Our family of six traveled to Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The experience exceeded expectations and all agreed it was our best family vacation ever. The accommodations were very comfortable and private. The food was beyond compare. Everything was made on site including the breads and yogurt. The staff went out of their way to make the experience memorable and were super accommodating. We can't say enough good things about the lodge, the meals, the staff and the excursions. Thank you Kachemak Bay!

I will do my best to do this place justice with words however I was mostly speechless the entire time I was there. I was deeply at peace during my stay, and it was very healing to connect so vastly with nature. The Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge (KBWL) was the ideal blend of remote and luxury. Never before have I been as submerged in the wilderness and been as comfortable as I was there.||Between the guided hikes to novel & pristine locations and hiking around the KBWL trails, I hiked over 25 miles, paddled another 6 miles or so with guides and my whole family (all in the same comically large canoe), caught all the nearby bays and coves by motor boat, some in my family chartered a float plane tour while I stayed back and got the best massage of my life.||The Lodge common spaces and surrounding cabins were charming and delightful. Comfy beds, rustic living spaces, endless amenities, including an impressive fire circle on a pier, hot tub, and large sauna.||The food was unparalleled. We had every kind of breakfast we could want every morning, overstuffed packed lunches for daily activities, and a 4-course gourmet dinner including hors d'oeuvres & dessert. I am a picky eater and usually skeptical of seafood but I ate everything that was served with zero hesitation. It was all so delicious and very nourishing. The chefs were friendly and generous about talking about their recipes and process. All the ingredients were sourced locally, and the chefs & staff accommodated the food allergies and diets of all the guests. Masterful work.||All of the staff were incredible. They really delivered in all facets. They guided our activities, accommodated our wishes & needs, were very informative & highly skilled, personable & welcoming, they even protected us from bears 🙂 They took us to see a glacier, a high summit with 360 views, dozens of otters, seals, and bald eagles. We saw several puffins, black bear, and mountain goats. I also saw a heron, a grouse, and a porcupine. At one point, my father asked one of the guides if we could see any whales. The next day, the guide took us on a 20-min boat ride to a nearby bay, we waited for all but 5 mins and had an incredibly magical and close-up humpback whale sighting. It was unbelievable and breath-taking. It was like peak-Lebron-James of wilderness guiding - so impressive. ||And it was like this on EVERY activity with every staff member. The staff know when and which guests they needed to assist, and which guests they could let have more autonomy with their experiences. Another staff assisted an older guest with limited mobility up a very impressive trail so they could share a once-in-a- lifetime experience with their group. Another team of staff organized cold beers on the boat trip back for a group of hikers after a difficult hike. I was given a map (and orientation) of the trails around the Lodge and bear spray (with a tutorial) and was free to explore on my own. They were great at evaluating our needs and providing the exact support so we could tailor the trip to our abilities and desires. In the evenings, the staff seemed to disappear, which allowed the guests to bond even more with the beautifully exquisite and unique resort facility. They were so friendly, insightful, and told great stories. Once they discovered all the guests liked dogs, the staff brought their dogs to the Lodge to run around. They were very friendly, playful, and protective. I took a walk in the back trails one evening and two of them escorted me and ran bear defense. Very loyal and cute. The staff were awesome. I hope we didn't wear them out - haha.||Additionally, they have all kinds of wilderness gear to outfit you with. Wading boots, hiking poles, life jackets, binoculars, bear spray, bug spray, and sunscreen. If you want to fish, they will give you a rod and take you fishing. They have kayaks, although, I didn't have enough time to use them as my trip was action-packed with so much already. ||In a fairly short amount of time, the Lodge and the staff give you the complete Alaska experience. You see the sights, eat extremely well, sleep hard. Your anxiety melts away immediately and you become ever-present. I left exhausted - the good kind. And while I was there, I could tell that this was the kind of vacation that stays with you long after it's over. Such a gift.||If any staff read this review, thank you so much. I hope I didn't leave anything out because you sure didn't!!||If you can go to this place and bring your loved ones - you should (and take me with you!)

We've recently returned from a 5-day stay at the outstanding Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge. From the guided outdoor outings, comfortable cabins, Finnish sauna and hot tub, and gourmet meals in the dining room, our stay was amazing! Every detail was perfect! Although we did not meet Michael and Diane, the builders of the lodge, we did meet their children Shannon and Morgan who carry on their tradition of hospitality and adventure. A special shout-out must be given to the amazing lodge staff. A more wonderful group of young people would be hard to find! Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge is a not-to-be-missed Alaskan experience.

A beautiful place for a family vacation (though it would be great for couples, too). Not really in the "wilderness," the lodge is a 15-minute private boat ride from Homer -- but you'll feel like you're in a secluded enclave. The property is made up of five lovely and well-appointed guest cabins, a main lodge for dining, a solarium for hanging out, and an amazing sauna (a sign-up board ensures privacy). The food is fantastic, and Chef happily accommodated allergies with seriousness and concern--without giving up taste! Each day you'll decide what to do for your activity: hiking trails near the lodge or farther afield, tide pooling, and kayaking are the most common options, but boat trips around the Bay and hanging out at the lodge are also possible. The staff members do it all--guide, serve food, clean rooms and maintain the premises--and they are knowledgeable and friendly and make the experience truly delightful. By the second day, we felt like family.

We spend 5 glorious days at the Lodge. Shannon, one of the owners, and her staff made us feel like family. We had guides every day taking us on incredible excursions around the area.....hiking to a glacier, kayaking to a secluded old forest hike, tide pooling right outside the lodge, adventuring on a big canoe with other guests and visiting the very private Halibut Cove. Along the way, we learned all about the area from the very informative local staff. In addition to the daily activities, we were fed some of the best food we've ever had....and we live in a foodie city!! My kids who are slightly picky eaters loved the food as well! The kitchen staff was always making sure the kids had enough things to eat that they liked. I cannot say enough good things. Our only regret is that we didn't book the entire resort for the week with our family and friends! But we plan on doing that in the future.

Dream trip||Can I just start with how lucky we were to be here, it took some pieces of the puzzle to come together just right and here we were! There were 15 of us, ages 17 months to 70, celebrating a 60th birthday. I have never been to Alaska (except a cruise which is not really visiting Alaska) so I came with no expectations. From the moment we met the first of our crew at the dock, I felt cared for and had a feeling this would be something special!||The lodge and grounds are a collection of log cabins, built over many years, sited to take advantage of the spectacular scenery. They are well loved from the homemade quilts, well stocked amenities from robes to locally roasted coffee and a bottle of wine, manicured trails and flowers and berries everywhere. The original lodge was so cozy and warm and where you eat the most amazing food, kudos to Kam, who imagines and brilliantly executes one memorable meal after another! ||The food. Can I just mention the different home baked bread that comes out of the kitchen every day just blew my mind. Kam has that skill of taking what is fresh, imagining something special and flawlessly executing it. We are a noisy bunch, but staff would set something down in front of us and all you heard were quiet mmms, omg’s, and “this is the best thing I’ve ever eaten”. My favorite dinner was black cod, perfectly cooked, atop homemade udon noodles in a mushroom shoyu broth. Best thing I’ve ever eaten. We loved the packed lunches and snacks for the day set out in plastic boxes with our names on them. They went on excursions with us, waited for our returns, and were always a welcome sight! As we sat in the airport waiting for our flight out of Homer, we all were missing our boxes! And breakfast with homemade granola and yogurt, toast and jam, and/or something hot and delicious from the kitchen.||There’s a wood fired sauna and hot tub that we all loved after hiking or kayaking or boating or canoeing or just sitting on the deck. There are gardens and trails to explore, and the big tidal cycles create an ever changing environment to simply sit and watch. We had extreme tides during our visit that were amazing to watch, ||The staff. Where do I begin? This place is not 5 stars because of the incredible natural beauty, the wildlife, the fishing, the tide pools, the canoeing and kayaking, or any of the physical reasons, it’s the staff. They are naturalists, students (formally and informally) friends and, by the end, family. They are not constrained by their positions, they all wear many hats and are caring, funny, warm, and passionate about Alaska, the land and us (at least that’s how we felt!). Our littles fell hard for the crew and they were great with them!||I highly recommend this resort, for me it was one of the top 5 trips of my life. Thank you, Shannon, Morgan, Parker, Lily, and Kam and the entire crew!|

This was our second stay here. Quite honestly I think it improved if possible. The guides were in their 20s and almost all had grown up in Homer or Alaska. They were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The Chef had relocated from a Michelin Star restaurant in San Francisco last year. The glacier lake hike had tons of icebergs, and of course the required harvesting of 6000 year old ice for your gin and tonic. You supply the gin. Bonus this year were the whale sightings. Always the sea otters and bald eagles. If you don't believe me, ask Andrew Harper. Food, breaching humpback, and glacier photos included. The family still runs the lodge. Shannon, the daughter was the guide for wildlife viewing yesterday. Overall another great stay. Fun tip. If you must have internet, Goose point cabin is line of sight to the lodge internet access point. With an android phone as a range extender you should be fine.

We spent 5 nights with the amazing staff at Kachemak Bay Wilderness Lodge in June of 2021. Our group of 7 ranged in age from 10-74. The lengths the staff went to in order to accommodate the unique interests of everyone in our family was nothing short of incredible. If you are looking for an authentic, truly bespoke vacation experience this is it.
