My wife and I took a two day midweek vacation, staying at the James Madison Inn.
The property is well maintained with nicely appointed rooms. The staff are friendly and discreet. The town has several good restaurants and is only a 30 mile drive from Athens.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.

What a great experience at a cozy historic hotel in a lovely quaint little town! We travelled with our furry companion and they were very accommodating! There's also a nice park right across from the hotel to walk our puppy.||The room was very nice, super clean, with a comfy bed and good water pressure in the shower! ||Would absolutely recommend!

The rooms are wonderful and the location great just next door to a beautiful trail downtown Madison and near great restaurants. The room are beautifully decorated, cleaned and spacious. The only thing I would recommend improvement is the breakfast. They do not offer any healthy food except for a few fruits. They dont offer multi grain or whole wheat bread, granola or plain yogourt. Everything contains so much sugar. They don't even offer cheese or hard boiled eggs.

Beautiful, spacious rooms in a lovely area of historic Madison. Recommend the back side away from the road. A balcony and a gas fireplace in a sitting area. Great restaurant attached, Town 220. Nearby is an excellent patisserie, Patisserie on Main. And around the corner is great coffeehouse, Oconee coffee roasters. The room includes what they call a grab-n-go continental breakfast. For the pricey cost of the room, I would have expected better quality but all was pre-packaged stuff. Glad there were excellent options close by. We took a yogurt and skipped the plastic sealed “breakfast sandwiches.”

The location was great. There was a great steak restaurant right across the parking lot and a very nice upscale Antique store. What I liked the best about this place were the people who run it. They were great and very helpful. They treated you like family. It was just a great experience overall!

The location is absolutely the best if you want to walk around town a bit. It is close to everything. There are a few reasons that I only give it three stars though: The paint on the ceiling in the bathroom area was peeling in one spot. The charger on the bedroom table did not work. There was only one "regular" coffee, the rest were all decaff. The biggest thing is that the fireplace (propane I assume) did not work. A small thing is that there were only a couple of plastic cups for drinks. The staff was very nice though, and gave us a discount upon checkout for the fireplace not working. For the price point, it was not up to the standards expected.

My elderly parents needed to evacuate their home during hurricane Helene. My sister and I live out of state and couldn't come to help. My dad has recently been released from the hospital. The gentleman fromThe James Madison Inn was compassionate and kind over the phone. Although he could not guarantee the same room or even a room for the entire anticipated stay, he told me to have them come. "We will figure it out." When my parents arrived they were warmly welcomed. The Inn was gorgeous and the staff were patient and helpful. As promised, the staff "figured it out." They found a way to take care of my parents, even arranging for them to stay at another place for part of the time because the entire Inn was booked for a wedding. The staff took care of my elderly parents in the middle of a crisis as if they were their own. I am eternally grateful. We hope to come and visit again....but NOT during an emergency.
