Hyde House Bed and Breakfast - Nelsonville, Ohio

The home is beautiful. We stayed in the Dogwood room in April, which was comfortable and spacious. Location was great, just a short walk to the venue. The hot tub area looked to be out of service and was definitely not inviting and dirty. The breakfast was not good. Only offered eggs, hash browns, and sausage. No fruit, muffins, bagels, juice. Hours were 8-9, we came down at 8:30 and it was all cold. The sausage links were not edible at all. Pretty pathetic for a bed and breakfast and for the price we paid.

This home is beautiful and our room(lilac room) was very cozy and felt like home. The common areas are well kept and very pretty. We hiked ten miles expecting to relax in the hot tub but it was trashed. I had called twice prior to arriving and couldn't any info on it. Called to inform staff, had to leave a message and no one returned our call either day. Our Continental breakfast was cold. There needs to be darker, thicker curtains because the sign down the street blinks all night long.

Pros:
- Affordable and in fairly close proximity to Hocking Hills.
- Rooms are fine.
- Fairly well-maintained and clean historical house.

Cons:
- B&B is unstaffed; you have to get keys from a local business.
- House is constantly unlocked and does not feel like it is in a safe location (we witnessed someone who wasn't a guest pounding on the front door to be let in).
- Hot tub is in a terrible state and seems to exist merely so the B&B can claim to have one.
- Breakfast leaves much to be desired and seems to be an effort to check the "breakfast" box off while spending the bare minimum on breakfast.
- Nelsonville is not a good location and doesn't have much to offer.

In short unless you need somewhere to simply sleep in for cheap, pass on this location. I'd recommend just paying a little bit extra to stay either in Athens or at one of the resorts closer to Hocking Hills.

This is a beautiful historical home but needs some TLC and updated.
Upon arrival, at dark, there was no porch light on, and it was very difficult to find the lock and open the door. Finding our room after wandering around, it lacked electrical outlets in close proximity to plug phones into.
The mattresses were extra firm (hard!), with one having a plastic type cover that made a crinkle sound with every move. Upon pulling back the covers on this bed, I found debris like someone had dirty feet and crawled in. I contacted the host, who assured me linens were changed after each stay, had I set something on the bed? (Um, no!), and where I could find clean sheets.
The shower caulking was white/black/brown, pulling away from the base.
Bring your own pillow!
Breakfast was simple, scrambled eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns (not browned). You could make toast, no butter, just a big tub of margarine. No fruit, muffins, or cereal. 8am-9am.

Rented the lilac room for a girls weekend. Was disappointed because I rented this location because it advertised a hot.tub and thought we could relax after hiking. The hot tub had tad poles and cobwebs. The breakfast was decent. I was disappointed that there was no one to greet us and no one to.personally assist if needed. We had to call the store you checked in at to get info and/or make a complaint.

A truly wonderful place to stay! We stayed in the Lilac suite at this beautiful B&B and enjoyed every minute. The home itself is historic, perfectly maintained, and spotlessly clean. Our suite was huge..a king bed with a second bed in an adjoining area.

The Bed part of the B&B was outstanding. When we travel, we ask for a few things: cleanliness, working air conditioning and a comfortable bed. The Hyde house nailed everything, and then some. There is also off-street parking and a hot tub. There is a comfortable covered front porch where we enjoyed an evening cocktail.

The Breakfast part of the B& B was exceptional. The owner was there cooking for us and made a wonderful home-cooked meal with excellent coffee (critical for us). We were able to have a conversation with her about the history of the property and the surrounding area.

The Hyde House is adjacent to the revitalized town square, and pretty close to the Hocking Hills recreation area.

Overall, we would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Lovely bed and breakfast in a great neighborhood. We stayed in the lilac suite and felt it was a good value. The bed was comfy and the room was as clean as could be. We would stay here again.

Super neat bed and Breakfast! Beds are clean and comfy as well as bathrooms. We went to Hocking hills State park and stayed in Nelsonville. Amanda the care taker will take good care of you while you're there !
