My autistic daughter and I road tripped from Colorado to Bakersfield for her Sweet 16 birthday celebration to see Phil Wickham in concert at Valley Bible Fellowship Church. I was looking for a decent, affordable hotel with a great pool for our daughter, who loves to swim. I wish I would have chosen a different place to stay. The town of Bakersfield is nothing to write home about, kind of depressing. On top of that, having to stay in a depressing hotel. We were put in the back of the hotel which sort of creeped me out. There’s a closed down bar and grill called The Bull Shed that looked pretty sketchy in its day. Each of the 3 nights we stayed there we had to put up with other guests revving up their muscle cars right outside our window, so I did not fall asleep until well past midnight each night. The pool area was the nicest aspect of the hotel if you were to judge on looks only. Nice, spacious pool and plenty of lounge chairs to soak up the sun. But the pool was ICE cold and the hot tub wasn’t even in service when we stayed. Grab and go breakfast was a complete joke—heated up Jimmy Dean biscuits, nasty coffee, pre-packaged pastries and cold cereal. Our daughter prefers baths to showers, but the tub was missing its plug so we had to stuff a washcloth down the drain each morning to get the tub to fill with water. The hotel doesn’t even offer housekeeping every day. I had to schedule a time for them to come by the 2nd day. Staff were friendly but that was about the only positive thing of our stay.

Positive: Quiet hotel, pool, spa, coffee machine ground fresh on the spot for free daily. Staff (mostly).Bed was comfy, room was clean, no smell or must in the rooms. Clean sheets, nice tv with media casting from phone was nice also. EV charge level two on site. Negative: Staff was nice for the most part, one girl at the desk at one visit was a dodo. Others at other times were nice.A positive: Tesla charger within walking distance.

Stayed with a friend at this hotel. The facility was great. The breakfast was poor. But the staff was awesome- particularly Juan who works the night shift. He was accommodating and nice… However the morning girl with the blonde highlights was a little short and uninterested in helping. But didn’t ruin the experience for me.

The Hourglass Hotel in Bakersfield, California is not even close to what is being sold online. It completely feels like we were victims of a bait & switch. We booked a room for a 2 night stay and could not stay more than 20 minutes. The room was not even close to what is pictured on your site. The room was dirty, old and outdated. There was a grimey face print on the slider door even!!

I spoke to the manager and canceled our second night. We knew we would not get a refund for the first night (even though there was no way we were staying in that room and booked our stay at the Courtyard next door), the manager told me that out of the $250.72 that we paid for the 2 night stay, he would only refund $23.00. The nightly rate is $134.00, yet we are being charged $227. Unbelievable. I may have my credit card company refuse the payment.

It makes me wonder about the Expedia site as well. Are these properties not verified?

They take $150 for incidentals, but they don't let you charge against your room. That irked me. Even the cheapest hotels do that. They also gave me a key to a room that was recently used/still in use. However, the new room after that was very, very nice, and the staff was courteous and kind when fixing any issues. The pool is pretty at night.

No elevators. There’s no coffee maker in the room. The property was at 15% occupancy, yet I was assigned a corner room that overlooks a wall. I was also charged a $6 facility fee, which is unclear in its purpose. I will not be returning to this hotel; this was my first and last stay here.

I saw online that they always give you the wrong room and key. Well I would think they would have learned to correct that from all the bad reviews but I guess not as it happened to me also. I had I woman open the door and ask me what I was doing. I said they gave me the wrong room and I’m sorry to bother you. So watch out when you get your key. The guy at the counter was in a different world.
