Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Dayton - Dayton, Ohio

This was by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I was staying with a school group competing in a competition in town. We had reserved 11 rooms to accommodate the team and some of the parents.

I could write volumes here but I'll try to summarize things: the rooms were filthy, every surface was covered in dirt and grime. Many of the bed sheets were stained as well as most of the furniture in the rooms. One of the couches had human fluids all over it. There was what appeared to be mold in the bathroom and the door handle was about to fall off. One of the light bulbs in the bathroom vanity was missing the outer glass portion so the filament was exposed. The ceiling and room vents were covered in brown dirt/filth. There was a terrible stench in the room with a strong mixture of old rags and marijuana. We slept in our clothes the first night and then had to purchase new sheets and pillows from the local Walmart just to feel somewhat secure that we were not touching the mattress or the hotel sheets.

There was a very powerful storm during the week and many of the rooms leaked and one room had a very significant leak causing pooling water in most of the room as well as major ceiling damage.

Some of the other parents opted to leave and find other options but since there was a large event in town, there were no other options to move such a large group so we had to stay there, continually spraying everything down with Lysol and Clorox.

The customer service was also terrible. The lady at the front desk with the pink hair who was working when we checked in was very rude, defensive and difficult to interact with.

I've included some photos of our room, they definitely don't resemble those that are posted on the hotel website.

If you have a choice between staying at this hotel or in your car, I would go with the latter.

This is a bargain at twice the price. Breakfast was good for what it is. Lots of choice. Rooms were well kept and clean. Grounds were cared for.

Gave it 5 stars, but I have a complaint, had to ask for bedding for the flip out sleeper. I got a sheet and mattress pad. No pillow, no blanket. A little hospitality goes a long way, I share that to show how out of character it was for the rest of the hotel. Based on everything else and the nice demeanor of the staff, I'll let it go.

It seems like the reviews on Expedia and gmaps is broken. But this would be a great place for handicap access. Bathroom was huge. Kitchen. Cute mini tennis/bb court.

Walked in to get coffee at the complementary breakfast and was greeted by an unkept rude woman with pink hair. She demanded our room number as we were entering the food area. I replied ‘uh 3 something’ as we had checked into our room at 2am after a long flight. She proceeded to say ‘oh that’s a great room. 3 something is a good room’ then laughed with a coworker who was also standing there. We walked in with a number of other guests but we were singled out to have to give our room number? It’s sad to be treated that way. Even worse when you pay for it. I’m sure this woman with pink hair will be looking for another job soon. Hope it’s not in the service industry. The rooms are just as dirty as her. Stay elsewhere!

With 4 owners in 12 years, this entire hotel needs to be closed and reopened once it’s safe. At check in, I was informed that rooms are “undergoing renovations” and that even though police were on site, that everything was fine. Well, it definitely was not fine. The two bedroom, two bathroom, non-smoking townhome was absolutely disgusting. A bowed in kitchen countertop, carpet that massive damage, lights that didn’t work and cigarette butts lying inside and outside of the property. With police still on site, we didn’t feel safe being anywhere in the area. This is currently an independent owned property franchised by Hawthorn: Wyndham needs to take a hard look at this property. It’s an embarrassment to their name. We did not even stay at this property due to all the concerns. Both the independent owner and Wyndham refuse to refund my money, which is ridiculous. DO NOT EVEN TAKE A CHANCE staying here. So grateful that their nearby competitor, Marriott, was so understanding and gave us the service and care all customers deserve.

Positive: I liked that it had an actual kitchen and privacy Negative: So I went and bought my own cleaner and cleaned up the kitchen and bathroom to my liking. TV wasn't working, they never sent me anyone to fix it. called twice. Bed was comfy, but the place needs a revamp, everything is old and dated. Did let front know

The bathroom ceiling was covered in mold. The tub floor was badly cracked. The carpet was coming loose at the bathroom entrance with tack strip cutting your feet. The couch was stained. Not to mention the lady with pink hair was very rude. She should not be in custom service.

It's been a while since our last stay, but from what I've seen and heard, the only thing that has changed is ownership. The last time we stayed here, it was for only one night. We checked out and into a different hotel the next day. My daughter and I fell asleep on the couch because we both refused to sleep in bed. This was after we had changed rooms twice. It was horrendous. This place has hope, but it needs a lot of work, to say the least.

I liked that it is kind of a tiny apartment they have the dishes, pans utensils both cooking and eating. Dish washing liquid and powder for dishwasher. It saves money on take out because you can make your own meals
