Absolutely loved my stay at Green Tortoise Hostel San Francisco! The rooms were clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with everything you need for a comfortable hostel experience. The service was outstanding—friendly, responsive staff who went out of their way to make guests feel at home.

The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the city with easy access to public transport, major attractions, and great food spots. The atmosphere here is vibrant and social, perfect for solo travelers or anyone looking to connect with fellow explorers.

Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting SF on a budget but not wanting to compromise on quality and vibe!

Amazing experience at the Green Tortoise! My fiancee and I were in a private room in the Annex, which was small, but offered amazing views. The bathrooms were always very clean, and the bed was comfortable enough. Rooms are small, as is typical of a hostel, so just be aware if you pack heavy. The common kitchen in the annex was nice, but the main building is amazing. The ballroom is incredible, truly. We didn't use the sauna room, but the main kitchen looks awesome, and the free breakfast is a nice touch! All the staff were wonderful as well, and we had a great time. The location is incredible too. Lots of Muni buses nearby, and the T train at the Chinatown station is about a 12-15 minute walk. BART is a 15 min walk south. We will definitely be back!

We stay at this hostel regularly and it never disappoints. The staff are absolutely amazing—always welcoming, helpful, and genuinely friendly. The communal areas are a big highlight for us; they're perfect for relaxing, meeting new people, or just hanging out after a day exploring. Plus, the location couldn’t be better! It’s super close to great food spots and local markets. Can’t recommend it enough—we’ll definitely be back again soon!

Fun experience for my first hostel stay! The bunk was comfy, my only gripe was the pillow. It was more like a folded up towel, it was definitely a poor excuse of a pillow. Despite that, check in and check out was a breeze. I would advise to bring cash because they charge a buck for a towel and if you only have a card it will end up being like $7. The free breakfast was a great amenity and my room had a great view! But honestly for the price this place was a palace!

Amazing hostel! This is a truly magical place with a great & welcoming atmosphere. Meeting new people is super easy in the common room (which is open 24/7), you get free breakfast and there‘s hostel-organized events every day. Highly recommended!

My favorite Hostel in the world! The space is super nice, great amenities and location, and certainly fairly priced (book at their website). The thing that stands the most is, though, the quality and diversity of the people staying there. I saw everything from families with their kids, to teens in their gap years, to seventy somethings, all communing in a single point of convergence. It felt magical, and the conversations I had and friendships I made will stay with me forever!

Such a wonderful place! Clean, kitschy, and full of history. We stayed here because we were on a budget, but honestly would just come back for the vibes! Staff was really chill and we loved the free breakfast 🙂 plus its such a prime location we literally just walked to all the main tourist attractions. Really really cool place
