I can't say enough about our weekend stay. The house was spotless, the host was kind and attentive, and the setting was so peaceful and relaxing. In addition, Ft. Payne is a vibrant small town with much to do and see. If you're looking for a great and very reasonably priced place for a family gathering, you've found it!

I stumbled upon this place after seeing an online article about the Little River Canyon scenic drive (which is about a 10min drive from the lodge).||||This place is an absolutely perfect vacation rental! We had a group of 16, so we rented the whole place. However, it actually can be rented in 3 individual sections: 4 bedroom main lodge (which is upstairs and includes a great main entrance), or two nearly identical 2 bedroom setups on the first floor. All of this is in the main building, but the design is such that it would work great for small families/groups that may not need all 8 bedrooms.||||The home was nicely appointed, everything worked, and it is very easy to find (less than a 10min ride from the Ft Payne interstate exit on I-59).||||Like most vacation rentals, the place is stocked with most of the things you’ll need along with a few rolls of paper towels/toilet paper. Each section of the lodge has towels/washcloths. But there is also a laundry setup in each so it’s easy to cycle through the towels as needed.||||The lodge is on a nice, large (several acres), quiet piece of land and the owner has a second residence at the back of the property (but nobody was staying there during our visit). A long driveway connects both residences. There is also a very nice outdoor pavilion behind the lodge. It appears that it can be used for events, parties, bbq’ing, etc and has a few outdoor games and a fire pit to sit around. We used the fire pit, made “s’mores”, and played their cornhole game.||||This house is amazingly located within minutes of DeSoto State Park and the Little River Canyon National Preserve. It’s 35 minutes to Buck’s Pocket State Park, 45 minutes to Pisgah Gorge, and just under an hour to the Sauta Cave. There’s tons of other area hikes, caves, and exploring to do that we’ll tackle on our next trip...because my crew was trying to plan our next trip before we even finished this one. Yes, it’s that good!

Great Buck Lodge was the perfect place for our family gathering. From the moment that we pulled up, we were very impressed. The facility itself is beautiful - log construction with lots of nice touches. The layout is great, with multiple bedroom and a spacious living area for meals and gathering. Can be subdivided or combined based on the size of the group. The game area out back was a great plus - we spent hours there. And all of this in a beautiful area with a very friendly and helpful owner. You couldn't ask for anything better.

Fantastic house in a neat location. We like the various points of privacy the downstairs suites offered from the main floor. The closeness to national parks, trails as well as fort Payne was also very nice. Extended family had a great time together!

Great Buck Lodge is the perfect place for a family reunion. We came to the lodge for a summer escape from work and the hustle and bustle of everyday life.||We had eleven people in our party and the lodge was a perfect escape. The three different areas of the lodge meant that each family could have quiet time. But upstairs, we all had room to gather together. Outside, we had ping pong, checkers, horseshoes, and a fire pit for s’mores…. all were on site for us to use. The large open yard also gave us space to set up our volleyball/badminton net for hours of family fun and fitness.||The accommodations inside were beautiful. Everything we needed was there for our comfort and convenience. For example, each of the three kitchens had its own coffee pot (this was important for our family!) and all other appliances and utensils. If you are on a budget, eating “at home” at the lodge can save you so much money. ||Also, before we arrived, we had so many questions about what was there, and what we needed to bring that we often contacted the owners with our questions. They quickly and patiently answered all our concerns so that we did not have to”over-pack” things that we did not need.||The surrounding area in Ft. Payne, Alabama has so much to do for the lover of the great outdoors. Although we felt like we were in our own remote, private lodge, we were not far from shopping, restaurants, or my favorite- hiking and nature. We checked “Trip Advisor” for all the activities we enjoyed.||We have nothing but great memories of our trip to the Great Buck Lodge. We would whole heartedly recommend it for families and friends who wish to enjoy their time together and this area of Alabama.

Highly recommend this Lodge for a family vacation or for your next youth trip to the mountains. Minutes from breathtaking views and tons of things to do. Or if you just want to get away this is the perfect hide-away for everyone who is too busy. It is designed so that you can rent part of/or the entire lodge. If history and quietness is what you want - The Great Buck Lodge is for you. If outdoors, river streams, zip lines or hiking is more your style - The Great Buck Lodge will be perfect for you too.

Rented this for the entire weekend for a family gathering. Several different set ups for rooms and kitchen spaces. Very large outdoor space with wading pool, bar, full kitchen, covered seating, large fire pit, bbq grill, lots of parking, water fall and fountain, access ramp for handicap accessibility.

Thank you Mgr Jeff for allowing a couple of us to come in and decorate for our Friends that was Turning 50..The best twins ever..Great friends and family gathering of all women..But your lodge is beautiful..everything was set for each room each bathroom and each kitchen! Thank you again
