This independently owned/operated motel looks a bit sketchy. It shows its age and obviously, at the prices charged, a lot of maintenance has been deferred through the years.||The rooms are small and slightly claustrophobic, but the windows open and I felt quite safe leaving the front door ajar while I spent time in the room. Like many of the these old down in the heels mom & pops, the motel is inhabited by a lot of itinerate workers who gather outside and chat. They know each other. They are not crooks or criminals, they are just hard working Americans, trying to get by, so don't be put off by their presence.||I won't lie. There was an unmistakable heavy smell in the room, but it was of delicious Indian spices, not of dirt, .mold, or funky shower curtains. The room was not the cleanest, however the sheets and towels were very clean. ||This place is worth a stay if you're on a budge. The location is perfect for an evening stroll through historic, downtown, Van Wert. Don't be shy, get to know Angie, the motel manager. She's an amazing and kind-hearted woman. |||

The ladies here are amazing. They always try to help someone in need, and make your experience feel like home. A very caring, nice, quiet,environment, and they respect your privacy.

The two ladies in the office were very friendly during some trying times. If I ever got a hotel in Van Wert again. Definitely a place to stay. Right downtown across from the library and YMCA gym.

If this motel looked anything like the pictures it might have been "ok". The room was filthy and falling apart. Carpet was tearing up, water was rusty, and the room smelt awful. There was grime in all the corners and on surfaces. Not to mention the very loud disruptions from the neighbors all night long. Very unsanitary. We thought we would give it a chance due to a couple of good reviews... DO NOT... We demanded a refund.

I wasnt expecting much for the price and reviews . I'm pretty sure this place should be shut down! Tiny rooms. Dirty dirty dirty. This is just a few of the pics. The bath rug was like that when I checked in. The stove, range and lights did not even work.. the bed was not washed. Floors weren't even vacuumed. After check in the lady closed so I couldn't even complain if I wanted to. No phone in room. Fridge was dirty even . Looked like blood on the shower curtain.

Never got clean towels whole week we stayed, every time i would come back to room door was unlocked and air was shut off.I get they want to save money. But we paid for our room and the dam air in it. Small cramped room and dirty. No parking. Loud from traffic and lights shine in room from road. Staff was very friendly only good thing about this place.

Small room lost somewhere in the 80's with decor. The bed was so hard it nearly killed me to sleep on it. The Cable streaming reception sucked something awful so there was no TV. The room lacked a phone, a coffee pot and was truly no frills. For $79 plus tax oer night it was over-priced.
But.... the owners were some amazing women, friendly, sweet and made us feel at home. I felt a genuine connection with the ladies that run this little gem. It makes me want to come back "just to see my friends".

Our stay at the Fountain Inn was wonderful: memorable, comfortable, and hospitable. (Not to mention very affordable!) The warm-hearted welcome that we had from the host/owner even included a cup of ginger tea, as we discussed the town, our children, and Ayurvedic medicine. The Y across the street had a good weight room to throw heavy metal around, but also a nice fitness center for cardio. The Brumback Library, architecturally impressive and beautifully decorated for the holidays, is a good place to browse. We had supper at a nice, inexpensive Chinese buffet that the owner recommended and there is also a great deli with a wide beer selection in town (Collins Fine Food).||The motel is a mid-century stop on the old Lincoln Highway with a cool period paint job. It looks well-used (historic) but also tended with care. If you are the type to snap snarky photos of outdated fixtures or celebrity-shaped stains, this is probably not a place for you; however, if you want a clean, well-kept, and friendly place, this is it. You will remember your visit to Van Wert long after you have forgotten your next-to-last interstate exit hotel stop: you have nothing to lose but your chains!
