My husband suffers from narcolepsy, so while he was napping in Maybell’s Cottage, I was planning to enjoy a book in in the common room front of the fireplace as depicted in photos. However, upon arrival we were told that someone was visiting with dogs, so if we weren’t dog people (we are cat people), we weren’t to come inside the inn, but stay in the cottage. Then we were told we could not have a fire in our room, despite “working fireplaces” being advertised. The only heat in the cottage was from two portable heaters, and it was rather dark in that room. Also, we booked the cottage for the king-sized bed. I had mentioned on the phone that I had a tall husband, thus the need for the king bed. I would have appreciated being told how low the ceiling was to go through the small kitchenette to the bathroom. He was very uncomfortable having to duck so much, especially when sleepily navigating a strange place. Maybell’s cottage was clean, but heavily perfumed with some type of deodorizer which was overwhelming. The innkeepers were very friendly, gave good advice as to where to have dinner, and when we were able to go inside the inn for breakfast, we got a nice dose of history, which is why we chose this place. The dining room was beautifully decorated for the fall season and we were happy to have seen some of the interior of the historic inn.

I made the reservation for my husband's birthday because it's our tradition to go to historical places every year. The grounds are very lovely but I felt really creeped out when the host is sleeping right next door to you and they can hear your whole conversation and she talks back too lol! Room was freezing at 2am. Don't come here if you're allergic to cats because cat hair is all over your sheets and pillowcases. I looked inside of gas refrigerator and I saw some food that was meant to be for breakfast I assumed and it looked old and expired! Gross. The innkeeper is always up your ass anywhere you go. No TV's in the rooms and it's awkward to use the TV and the guest room because they always come to check on you there! Not a good experience. Never will be back. We stayed at Captain Grant's in Preston and if you're looking for a historical hotel experience, that was the best place! And they took my food out of the fridge in am, most likely out of spite.

The Daniel Rust House was absolutely darling in every way!! Cathy and Germaine were so kind and wonderful hosts, making sure that my sister had gluten free options of the same food that they were cooking (from scratch!!) for everyone else every morning. We stayed in the cottage, which was so cozy and a perfect place to relax after long days at the local renaissance faire. This was a diamond to find in rural CT, and I would easily stay again! <3 Thank you, Cathy and Germaine!! - Hannah and Stacia

The Daniel Rust House is a "must stay" for those visiting Coventry. The gardens are beautiful, the house is full of history, and Cathy and Germaine are warm, inviting and great conversationalists. The rooms are spacious and nicely appointed, better than many B&Bs. We stayed in the cottage and had the convenience of cooking a few meals. But the best part of our stay was the delicious breakfasts: banana bread or another baked good to start, juice, coffee and always a choice between two hot breakfast entrees. I had a delicious smoked salmon scramble one morning. The meals were first class, so much better than most hotel breakfasts. But most of all Cathy and Germaine were delightful -- we hope to return when next in Connecticut. Lastly, there are many nice hiking trails nearby, historic sites to explore and it was a beautiful and easy drive into Hartford where we drove to see the Wadsworth Art Museum and a play at the Bushnell. We highly recommend the Daniel Rust House!

The hosts are amazing at this bnb! I was the only guest during my stay but I need very felt that I inconvenienced them. I was upgraded from the small room with a twin to one of the queen rooms and the offered my daughter a delicious breakfast to accompany me, even though she wasn't staying there. Lovely people and place and close to Uconn at Storrs, so great for families visiting students.

Cathy and Germaine were wonderful! The breakfast was amazing!!!! They were helpful on where to go locally and knew a lot of history of that beautiful house. We had the romance package and it did not disappoint. The house definitely has a warm and cozy feel to it and very welcoming. We will definitely go back!! Check it out!!

From the moment you drive onto the lovely grounds of Daniel Rust, you are so warmly embraced: by the living history of this home, by the gracious welcome from Germaine and Cathy, by the abundance of beautiful furnishings and intriguing decor. Each morning is a five-star breakfast; the cozy keeping room invites you to sit; the gardens are peaceful, rich, and elegant. We Perfect!have visited twice and are planning #3. And with 3 luscious cats, it’s perfect in every way!

We love B&Bs and this one now tops our list. We stayed for a week and had a different meal and appetizer every day that was amazing. But more than that, Cathy and Germaine are amazing hosts. The historic house is amazing, the owners are amazing, the food is amazing. We will definitely be back.
