We didn't get to stay at this place and lost money!

When we arrived on 5/12 to check in, we found out there's a mistake on the booking date. The booking showed 5/11-12 instead of 5/12-13. We were at Crescent City, CA, about 70 miles north of Humboldt Bay on 5/11 when we used my phone to book the next day's hotel. Something went wrong and the date was wrongly entered.

The front desk staff, Lorilee L., first told us we didn't have a reservation, later said the date was wrong and refused to change the date. We apologized and it was obvious that it's an unintentional mistake. But Ms. Lorilee L. showed no interest in helping us at all. We asked for her manager, Jessica C., she said no and said she already talked to her. We then called Choice Hotel customer services, who called her again trying to persuade her to help us and she still won't change. Choice Hotel support staff was very surprised and felt really bad for us. She told us it was unusual. Not only that, Lorilee L. then refused service to us and told us to find another place to stay!

We stayed at Comfort Inn many times and liked the Choice Hotel chain. Actually, we stayed at this Comfort Inn Humboldt Bay on 5/8-9 and liked the place, that is why we booked the place again for 5/12-13. We understand the hotel has a policy of no cancellation but we didn't cancel. It was a mixed date and we asked for a change! The front desk was very rude. For the whole time, we tried patiently and nicely to explain our situation but she never showed any sympathy. On top of that, she refused services to us! What kind of customer service is this?! We were appalled. Never had we been treated so horribly.

This is a dishonest steal, avoid this place!!!

The room was great other than the heating/cooling unit being rather noisy. Everything was clean, the staff were kind and the breakfasts were better than average hotel fare. The location was convenient by car but definitely not walkable. We stayed three nights (after already spending a week on the road) so my only complaint was that they had no guest laundry facilities. The nearest laundromat turned out to be crowded and unclean.

Competitive price, first. Silent guests, second. Clean room, big 3. Friendly staff! Microwave/fridge, and pool (not closed). Blackout curtains, comfy bed. Nextdoor to ram dealership. I might return my car rental. I slept really well! I could live like this, actually. Also, this is the only place in Cali that the people seemed almost... friendly...ish, like it's almost got a small town vibe, like a Boulder of California vibe. Respectable price for a nice hotel!

I have to add that Jessica was a wealth of knowledge about the locale. Everyone was very friendly, and Jessica was like having a concierge behind the desk.

Our family spent one night at this establishment and I have a few words to say about our experience.
Upon arrival all was well, check in went smooth and we were off to bed.
When we arrived to our room around 10pm we were frequently interrupted by construction on the road, car alarms, and horns going off in the parking lot.
The construction was out of our control but the parking lot ruckus was unacceptable.
Today our family was called by the front desk and falsely accused of causing noise throughout the night. We were told that if we stay, and we cause noise again, that they would be forced to move the complaining room and CHARGE US for THEIR room!
Our hand was forced and we abruptly checked out, we were NEVER warned about our noise level because we were asleep, fighting the sounds of absolute chaos coming from outside.
Unacceptable and shady practices coming from this hotel.

Our weary family checked into this hotel late into the night, seeking respite from our long commute through the beautiful California coast. Upon arrival, we became hesitant about the booking due to the various gatherings of non-hotel guests in the parking lot, and the significant undisclosed construction (including the use of jackhammers and heavy machinery after 10pm and plumes of dust and debris encircling the entrance). However, the receptionist was lovely and kind, so we figured we could simply hunker down in our two rooms as we were exhausted and had early commitments the following day.||||When we returned from our next days activities, we were surprised to receive a phone call from the front desk. The receptionist said that there had been a noise complaint about our specific room, and the manager had instructed the receptionist to tell us that we would be fiscally reprimanded for future infractions or reports. The prior evening, our family had checked into the hotel and promptly went to bed. We were shocked by this accusation and never had anyone knock on the door or phone our room. The idea that we were being blamed for having “unruly teenagers at all hours” was absurd, considering our kids are much younger and again, we all went straight to bed.||||We felt compassion for the receptionist who was having to relay this information to us second-hand. We asked to speak with the manager, who evidently was off-site and would not return to work until the following day. We were also told that management was unwilling to accept our correspondence at all. So, if there was another accusation against our room (and without due process or corroborating evidence) the accusing party would be moved and OUR FAMILY would be charged and responsible for their room!!!||||To say we were shocked and offended is an understatement. I have been an avid international traveler for more than 30 years and have never heard of such a questionable policy. The idea that we would be charged for someone else’s false accusation and full stay was staggering and felt very unethical and potentially fraudulent. This was a particularly uncomfortable verbal exchange considering the large number of inconveniences and discomforts that we as guests were graciously overlooking; including dogs locked in cars barking and honking the car horns throughout the night (which, frankly, good for them!), what appeared to be drug use by patrons in the parking lot, and there being no regulation of the groups of unhoused citizens congregating at hotel room entrances. ||||We had limited options, having arrived into this rural area at such a late hour, and we were hopeful we could stick it out for our short 2-day reservation.||This was definitely our final straw, and we informed the front desk that our family would be checking out immediately. Under no circumstance would I leave my family in a position to be accused and be on the hook for someone else’s arbitrary and completely inaccurate report. Of course, we were informed that we would receive no compensation/refund for the remainder of our stay and at this juncture we were fine to eat the money just to have our kids in a much cleaner, safer environment. ||||We would not recommend this hotel for families, even if you are on a budget. There are other safer accommodations in this region, and despite the front desk worker being as polite as she could be, it is clear that leadership has questionable convictions and business practices.||||Travel can be filled with highs and lows, and we were prepared to suck it up and consider this experience to be a lesson learned and one to not be repeated. But this assault from management necessitated our speaking out and providing caution for other families and travelers seeking safe, sanitary, and respectful accommodation. You won’t find that at this establishment. I would also encourage past travelers to check their bills and credit card statements very carefully since this hotel seems to think it’s okay to make up charges on behalf of other guests?

Best bed and offer continental breakfast daily fresh coffee some amazing housekeeping thank you for making our visit to Eureka comfort inn a little bit easier I would recommend if you are in Town.

My stay at Comfort Inn Humboldt Bay was absolutely fantastic! The location along Highway 101 was perfect for my road trip, and the hotel offered everything I needed for a comfortable and relaxing stopover. The rooms were impeccably clean and well-maintained, the complimentary breakfast was delicious with plenty of options, and the staff, Daniel and Catherine was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The indoor pool and hot tub were the perfect way to unwind after a long drive. I highly recommend this gem to anyone traveling through Eureka!
