I thought the gps was sending me to some horror movie and then it took me to a muni golf course. My hopes weren’t high and then someone leaving the restaurant said this is Eurekas hidden gem. That was a great start. They had free chips and beans/cheese that were tasty. The Shias freskas looked awesome but I didn’t want to pay $6 for it. Thats the going rate for good Shia fees as anyhow… I order the queso Birria taco and al pastor burrito w queso inside. Food was legit and I love to support local mom and pop shops. Servers were friendly and had a great meal on a long drive. Just what I needed. I forgot to take pix of the food bc I was so hungry.

The BEST food woww everything is so insanely delicious - the tacos are amazing - be sure to hit taco Wednesday & do NOT skip out on the agua Fresca, they are always SO refreshing. the Chile relleno burrito might be my favorite thing ever besides the bean dip which I dream about when it’s been a while since I had it. Mari is the best & you can taste the love in her food. So grateful for her food 🤍

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to share a little gem here in the quaint town of Eureka. Stopped in for a bite, and let me tell you—the food was great. You can tell it’s made with care, and the two lovely women in the back were working hard to keep up. It happens, and honestly, it just adds to the charm of a small-town spot like this.

They were sweet, the atmosphere was warm, and I’ve got nothing but good things to say. If you’re ever in town, I’d definitely recommend stopping by. It’s a delight.

Not a good dining experience at all… the outdoor seating was in the worst condition I have ever seen, so then we requested to get the food to go instead. The grilled chicken was very over cooked and charred most pieces were black and bitter tasting. The cheese in my burrito was just packed into the side so I couldn’t avoid having a bit of just cheese when I took a bite from that side… I think it’s comment sense to spread cheese throughout the burrito when making one to avoid that from happening. We were supposed to get a side of salsa that comes with the burrito but the side of green salsa turned out be beans? That was odd… I mean we didn’t ask for the side of salsa but it came with it so we asked for green rather than red as the other option. Anyway… this experience was totally bad and I’ll never be ordering from here again.

Came here about a month ago with my husband and we were blown away by how tasty the food is here. I ordered the surf and turf nachos. The shrimp and meat was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My husband loved his burrito bowl. We had to try a keto taco. I mean cheese as a shell yes please! We love hot sauces so we ordered all 5 and was not disappointed. The owner came over and asked if we had any questions and chatted for a bit. Friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back.

I have been going to Cocina Mariposa regularly since moving to Humboldt in January 2019. I have tried a fairly large portion of the menu at this point. Every single thing I have ordered has invariably been fresh and absolutely delicious.

For me, particular highlights are the chili relleno plate, the tacos (with habanero salsa if you like spicy), and the California burrito. If you're into Mexican breakfast, their breakfast tortas and chilaquiles are excellent. But really, order anything that sounds good, it'll probably be great!

Their agua frescas are also to die for. They are made with real juice and are unlike most of the agua frescas you'll have had in your life.

They are also VERY knowledgeable about vegetarian and vegan cuisine, and are willing to alter menu items to fit these diets within reason.

This review is long overdue, but I recommend Cocina Mariposa to the highest degree. It really is a gem in a restaurant landscape that is otherwise dubious.

Cocina Mariposa is our most favorite restaurant in Humboldt and possibly one of the best Mexican restaurants in California. The food is always consistent and delicious, the service is always friendly and fast. Best battered fish tacos I’ve ever had and a Chile relleno that your abuela would be impressed with. Don’t get me started on the complimentary bean dip!

Great flavor! I had the surf n turf fries and my sis had the quesabirria tacos. The seasoning they put on the food is so flavorful!. Great service. Dining is outside or to go. Covered patio. Will definitely try this place again.
