A great Meat and Vegetable place to grab lunch or even a nice breakfast. If you are in Tuscaloosa when UA is in session then you should stop here and catch the local flavor. It’s been in business for a long time and there is a reason… it’s good.

I am so disappointed by this place. It is the worst food I’ve ever had. Luke warm flavorless chicken and green beans taste straight out of the can. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!

Omg lunch there was awful !! No flavor whatsoever! The server was very sweet but failed to tell us what the daily special was and we would have ordered it if we had known . Don’t know what the hype is about this place ! It’s kind of like nursing home food!

City Cafe around lunch time is always busy, busy busy. There is always a line but we have never had to wait very long as people eat & leave. The servers are so friendly & you get your meal surprisingly fast. The entrees change daily plus you have a list of sides you can pick from. An entree with 2 sides is about $10 or you can get a vegetable plate.

Honestly, given City Cafe’s reputation, I was disappointed. They serve very simple southern dishes. The fresh vegetables were excellent. The chicken and dumplings were excellent. The Cole slaw was excellent. The baked chicken strips were dry and somewhat tasteless. The chicken fried steak appeared to be a frozen patty not made in house. It was also somewhat tasteless and appeared to chicken instead of beef.
The deserts were average.
Service was excellent.
I wish I could give more stars but the food was just too inconsistent.

It used to be the place to go for great food at a great price. Nowadays prices have more than doubled and the food quality has declined dramatically. My last 3 visits have been very disappointing. The cornbread and sweet tea is still good, but everything else I’ve had tastes like it’s from the freezer, a can or out of a bag.
My last visit I could not eat the chicken fried steak. A microwaveable frozen Banquet meal is comparable to what they serve here. In fact I would’ve preferred the frozen dinner on my last visit.

One of those early mornings where you can see a packed restaurant, Tuscaloosa County High students' trucks rolling along for homecoming, hard working folk everywhere and history. Great breakfast, people watching, and shaking hands of good friends. I hope you have a great Friday.

The three egg western omlette is a real treat. You can take my word for it or better yet, try one yourself.

Brought my dad here for for his birthday. He turned 77❤️ This is his favorite spot and has been all my life, we love it here! Our server was a little slow and went missing a few times so I gave her a 4.
