Buckeye Cabins - Rockbridge, Ohio

We stayed in Dogwood which was nice and secluded. You could hear the other cabins if they got rowdy but the back porch with the hot tub was completely private and had a nice view of the trees. The cabin itself was quaint and clean (except for the fridge which was sticky and clearly dirty). The hot tub was super clean and heated up quick and the fire pit had a nice swing next to it. All in all it was a nice quiet weekend in a good sized cabin with quick access to local parks/hiking.||||Things to note: There is no Cell service and no wifi. You have to drive 3 min up the road to a pull off for service. The road in/out is one lane but 2 way so drive slow. There are no screens on the windows which was disappointing but the cabin has great heat and AC. The water is well water and has STRONG sulfur (rotten egg) smell. It was fine to shower and brush teeth with but we went out and got bottled water to drink.

We stayed at the Dogwood for 4 days and 3 nights. This was our first and last time here. We wouldn't recommend using buckeye Cabins. There are a LOT of inconviences. Some fairly major and some minor however, too many minor inconveniences add up and make it not worth it. So, let's get on with it, shall we...

PROS (unfortunately not too many):
Hot tub
Private and secluded
Pool table
Fire pit
They provide dishes and cookware

CONS: (it's a fairly extensive list so be prepared)

First off, let's talk about the outrageous cleaning fee. We have no problem paying it however, when they make you clean it yourself then charge an absurd $140, that's when I have a problem(except washing the linens). Wait til you see the ridiculous list of requirements. Take out your trash(the trash bin is all the way down at the bottom of the driveway. You can't walk there), strip your bed etc. Not to mention they clearly don't do a good job cleaning (see pics). That filth is right over your bed and your head. What am I paying a cleaning fee for? This is a bogus charge.
No end tables for your phone, drinks etc. You get to put everything on the floor. We ended up using kitchen chairs for end tables.
Do you want a dead phone in the morning? If so, this is the place for you. Having no end tables doesn't matter when there are no  outlets close to charge your devices anyway. We had to buy extension cords.
Want to dry your hair? Forget it. Outlets don't work by "bathroom" sink. Remember those extension cords.
No sink in the bathroom, it's next to the bed so if you use it, you'll wake up your partner. You'll definitely know who doesn't wash their hands after they pee.
Ladies, how about some makeup? Nope..not unless you want to risk looking like a clown. No lighting near sink. The one light can barely be called a nightlight.
No TV in the rec room.. seriously? Who doesn't want to watch TV while playing pool? Apparently, they think we don't.
Want to wear your eyes out from squinting? Watch the from the bed. TV is so small you can barely see it. (see pics). They need to get rid of that stupid entertainment center and mount a large TV on the wall.
How about a romantic evening in bed watching the nice fireplace? WRONG!! Think again. The fireplace can't be seen from the bed. You must go sit on the couch(See pics) Get a wall mount fireplace.
The couch is in the way of the TV so you can't see the bottom part of the already tiny television (see pic)
Tired of using the same towels over and over again? Want to get more? Too bad NOPE, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! Even if you ask for them, they will never come.
Like scavenger hunts? This is the perfect cabin for you. It took us 20 minutes to find the light switch for the kitchen light. SPOILER ALERT: It's behind the refrigerator.
Rec room is too small for the pool table. The pool cues kept hitting the wall. Great idea with the pool table, poor execution.
They put a California king bed frame in the tiny cabin (which is overload) then put a king size mattress inside the frame. Good luck just sitting in the bed. (See pics) Your legs hit the frame.
Mattress is quite old. Both of our backs really hurt.
Are you too cold or hot and want to adjust the ceiling fans speed? Forget it. You get high and that's it.
Staying more than one night? Want somewhere to put your clothes? All you get is one little cubby on the far side of the bed.

Then to top it all off, should the hot tub stop working (or any other mechanical thing) , forget about getting a refund or discount. They specifically state no refunds if anything quits working. Sure, unexpected things happen. We understand but to dare say no refunds if the hot tub goes out is completely and utterly ridiculous. That's a main reason for renting this particular cabin. Oh and you'll need 4 wheel drive to get to it. If you can't get to the cabin, guess what? Yep, no refunds.

So, there you have it. Again, some may seem petty but they all add up and make your stay unpleasant. Find another cabin company. You'll regret this one.

I have rented many cabins over the past 10-12 years in the Hocking Hills area. This was the first time I had rented from Buckeye Cabins. I rented the Aspen cabin and I would definitely rent that cabin again. The location was wooded and fairly secluded. The front and side porches were great. The side porch covers a beautiful and very clean hot tub that I thoroughly enjoyed. The inside of the cabin was clean and well appointed with comfortable seating and nice appliances. It was a perfect weekend getaway for the 3 of us and would easily accommodate 4. Doug, the owner, met us at the main office and led the way for us up to the cabin. He went over everything we needed to know about the cabin so we had no questions or concerns during our stay. I will caution those who either don't like to drive steep inclines or don't have the means to do so; you will be driving up/down steep gravel roadways to these cabins so plan accordingly.

If you want seclusion, this is the area for you! Spent the weekend in the Hawaiian where we had a pool table and a hot tub. The cabin was beautiful inside and out. The drive up to this specific cabin is a steep hill, but thankfully with our SUV it was no issue and a car wouldn't have problems either unless it snows. We had a in cabin massage which the cabin provided plenty of room. Keep in mind that if you NEED cell phone/wireless access, we have AT&T and we had no service (which we knew we probably wouldn't) but we have kids so when we went into town, we checked in on them. Just keep it in mind. There is also well water in the cabin so you might want to make sure you have bottled water if you don't want well water. There were some dishes and glasses provided as well as some kitchen utensils. No complaints at all about anything! Doug was very nice and we had a great time. We can't wait to return!

This was our third visit to Buckeye Cabins overall and our second to the Dogwood. We've been visiting HH a few times per year for over a decade. By far, this is the cleanest cabin we've stayed in! No funky smells, no crumbs on the floor, no residue on the dishes! ||||We love the seclusion and coziness of this cabin! For us, it's the perfect size. After cooking and eating a big meal, playing pool prevented us from becoming big blobs just sitting on the sofa!||||Although it was too cold to enjoy it this time, the back porch swing is a favorite spot to enjoy our morning coffee!||||Thanks, Doug, for a great visit!

The cabin is beautiful, very clean and all amenities+ were included from the billiards table in the billiards room, hot tub to cards and the outdoor fire pit. The owner, Doug was so friendly and ensured everything was to our satisfaction. The location is perfect as well and offers seclusion without being to far from the trails of Hocking Hills State Park and local eateries.

My wife and I stayed at the "Hawaiian" Cabin this past weekend for our anniversary, and it was wonderful! The cabin was clean, well furnished and greatly taken care of. It is in the perfect spot for exploring the surrounding area, and only a short drive to Logan. Very remote and peaceful! Thank you for a great stay Buckeye Cabins!

We rented a cabin here when the temps were still cold because we wanted a secluded get away to just enjoy the scenery and sit in a hot tub. We had problems the first night with the hot tub water so it was not useable for the entire weekend. Graciously Doug made it right. We would recommend. Stayed in the Aspen cabin.
