What to Expect: Recommendations for Visitors

The owners’ commitment to personalized service, however, ensures that guests feel valued and well-cared for.

It is also recommended that guests bring their own high-quality bedding or linens if they are particular about comfort, as some have noted issues with the existing mattresses and blankets. It appeals particularly well to couples, small groups of friends, and families who enjoy outdoor activities and appreciate a more laid-back pace of life. The location in Arkansas offers easy access to various fishing waters, making it a practical base for enthusiasts. However, the rustic nature means it may not be suitable for those anticipating modern comforts or luxury amenities. The ideal guest is one who values authenticity, is prepared for basic accommodations, and seeks a genuine escape into the natural world.

\n\n

Furthermore, the resort’s focus on personalized service from the owners suggests that it caters well to travelers who appreciate direct interaction and a homely atmosphere. This makes it a good fit for those who might feel disconnected in larger, more impersonal establishments and prefer a smaller, family-run feel.

\n\n

Location is perfect for a nice getaway although many of the cabins are definitely “cabins” so if you’re looking for the rustic experience this is your place. Only recommendation would be to update the furniture as well as the BEDS and linen. The pullout couch had holes in the blankets and the elastic was very stretched. Also clearing out the cupboards and drawers and getting some good quality knives and utensils might be a nice touch as well. Other than that this place is paradise. There are charcoal grills available and the owners are EXTREMELY nice and punctual when requests are made.

Really nice cozy place with a beautiful lake view of the spacious deck. The cabins are much bigger than they appear. Huge rooms and giant bathroom with jacuzzi tub. Super value for the money. Just bring whatever food you want to fix and they have all the amenities already there. Full kitchen and nice entertainment area. Highly recommend.

We have been repeat guests at Black Oak Resort for over 5 years. We like the location on the Lake and the cabins so much we would pack up the SUV with the family, boat and 3-4 dogs and head on down to Black Oak. Fishing is great, and Water skiing is even better. The location of the boat dock is excellent back in a protected cove a couple of minutes from a fantastic skiing cove. Mike and Betty make your stay there very enjoyable as first time guests or as repeat guests. The cabins are the nicest in the area. All of them have great views and are very comfortable. The two bedroom units don't feel like cabins, they feel like a small lake home. You can't go wrong at Black Oak Resort.

We had a one bedroom cabin, the bed was ok, it was easy to fall asleep in after a long day on the boat. Cabins really need to be updated. Shower head, pressure, was horrible, it was difficult to get all the shampoo rinsed out of my hair because of the water pressure. Windows are old and fogged up so if you want to sleep with the curtains open, staring out at the night sky, you cant. Over all it worked for what was intended. Next time we will look at other alternatives in the area.

The pool is fantastic, like 13 feet deep at one end. That is probably the only great thing about it, is the pool.

This place is awesome, unfortunately I was there about 12 years ago so I have no idea what the current conditions are.
PROs: access to Bull Shoals lake, hot tub in some rooms, pool, great customer service.

CONs: They sold my mailing address to junk mail services. (5 stars if not for this)
