Updated from today, 10/7/24. Stopped in for lunch and on the recommendation of the chef, had a Lebanon Bologna Reuben. Best sandwich I've had in a long while. Great little place to grab lunch. The people working here are very friendly and my sandwich was just what I needed. I will definitely stop in again the next time I'm in town.

It pains me to leave this review, as I have had nothing but positive experiences at numerous other restaurants in the area. The 1 star is for the one sandwich out of four that was acceptable.

The chef, the first point of contact, is incredibly rude. We had three interactions with him that were increasingly negative.
1) we walk in and there is no menu to be seen. I walk up to the counter, and he rudely and aggressively points down, wordless, over and over. I look down to a blank counter, confused. He then irritated, tells me to look behind me for the take out menu. Not intuitive.
2) after we order, he asks the other employee if they want to take a bet on if the other customers will clean up after themselves, as if implying what was expected of us as patrons (we would have anyway, although it has a sit down restaurant).

We got our food, which was so greasy it seeped through the paper. I got a black bean burger, which was literally black beans smashed into a paste and slapped on crappy and tiny white bun. It was goey and messy. The waitress told us to head to the front for condiments, which I did since my "burger" had nothing on it.

3) I walk up to ask for condiments, as we were instructed, and the chef rudely responds "perfect to cover up the taste of the food." I was so floored that I couldn't even respond.

Not only was the food (except my sons BLT) super greasy, salty, bland and altogether terrible, but the dining room is dark and awkward. No sounds, no music, nothing.

Save your money and go to ANY of the other restaurants in Davis-they are all fantastic with kind and caring employees. I will never go there again. I'm floored at the positive reviews here.

Not sure what the complainers below are talking about. My family and I think their sandwiches are delicious. The staff are informal and chatty, a little eccentric--no problems at all. There's seating inside, down the hallway to the right. A little dark, but who cares! Great place.

We decided to eat here after the other restaurants had very long waits and we had hungry kids.

Firstly, the food was way overpriced and greasy. I also got yelled at for trying to get myself some silverware to eat a salad with. They didn't bring it with my food, it was sitting out in what I thought was the waiting area, and the server was checking out other people. Apparently I was supposed to wait in line, again, just for silverware? No. To top it off, the salad wasn't even edible. Don't waste your money.

Go to literally ANY other restaurant in Davis and you will have a better meal. However if you enjoy overpriced, greasy food and a dingy/dirty seating area with holes in every booth you may enjoy this place.

We love Davis and the people. However, I cannot remember dealing with a more caustic person than the owner, all while ordering four sandwiches. We were told our selections were boring and that was the highlight of the exchange.

We visit Davis annually and will never frequent this establishment again.

The portion size vs price is very disappointing. Cleanines is questionable. Ordered a turkey sandwich and although the taste was good, the portion size would not even be enough for my 7 yr old grandson. Wife got the reuben and said it wasn't very tasty. Photo of sandwich is 1/2 sandwich and the photo of fan and window shade brings the cleanliness of the rest of the place into question. Would not recommend.

We ate at Big Belly Deli twice in the same day. The messy Becky was absolutely delicious and the German potato salad was yummy. We also had the girls dream and it was amazing as well. The atmosphere was very welcoming and we will definitely visit again next time we are in town! The owner is 10/10 as well!!
