I’m a firm believer in “you get what you pay for.” I wasn’t expecting luxury—just an affordable hotel close to where we planned to spend time in Birmingham, and that’s exactly what I got. I was super nervous to stay here because of past reviews but think a lot of people had unrealistic expectations for the price. The front desk staff was super friendly, and I felt safe with the hotel being on a hill. The complimentary parking and breakfast were nice perks, and the location was convenient for what we needed. However, the first room we stayed in wasn’t cleaned well—there was hair and dried soap in the shower, making it feel “half-done.” When my boyfriend and I decided to extend our stay, we booked another night and switched rooms, and the second room was much cleaner. On our last morning, a housekeeper knocked at 10:23 AM. When my boyfriend responded, “Occupied,” she still asked if we were checking out, and when we said yes, she replied, “I’ll be back at 11” in a rude tone. We were confused because it was not checkout time yet and we paid more to stay an extra night hence providing more business. That experience seemed like an outlier, though, as the rest of the staff was great and very helpful. Breakfast was okay—nothing special, but average for a hotel in this price range. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It’s an affordable and convenient option, and I appreciate the renovations they’re doing. With a few small improvements, this location could be even better.

Moist. Room was humid. Carpet was moist so walked in my shoes. Had to clean my tub drain. The “Dark Roast” coffee was basically tea. (See pics) I’m a Hilton Honors member so I see many and this is one I would not revisit. Sheets and towels clean. The front desk folks were friendly enough.

If you want hot showers, a key that works to unlock your door, a hair dryer that works, a decent breakfast and a comfortable bed, this is not your hotel. Big mistake staying here. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Holiday Inn Express across the street is much nicer. The only plus is the staff are nice.

Renovations. First time stay. Long time Hilton honors member. Totally disappointed from night clerk check in who acted as though he didn't want to be bothered to check out where 3 employees were standing around talking about other employees. Manager asked how we're our stay and wasn't ready to hear the truth.
Rooms were awful and dirty. No hot water and little water pressure. If we weren't just staying overnight I would've rebook somewhere else even the Quality Inn. Hilton corporate office should remove the Hampton Inn name from this place.
I've been in plenty of hotels that were been renovated but nothing like this hot mess of a dumpster!!!

Horrible experience. Please don't waste your time on staying here it's so nasty so much mold and hair everywhere. They don't believe in cleaning there rooms at all . Our first room they gave us the door was wide open welcome to the public so we asked for another room and it was just as nasty as the first room . We were there a whole 15 mins and they would not refund are money. Don't let this place ruin your trip like it did ours because these people are just there for a paycheck not to run a business!!!!!

Extremely Disappointed – Proceed with Caution

Our recent experience with this Hilton location was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. We had booked a group rate while attending an event at the BJCC, and not once were we informed that the hotel was undergoing renovations or that the city had closed them down for not being up to code. One of our fellow teachers had booked separately through Booking.com and was notified a full week in advance that the location was not up to code and that her room had been canceled.

However, those of us who booked directly with Hilton heard nothing—no email, no phone call, nothing. Out of concern, both myself and another director called the hotel in the days leading up to our stay. My co-director was told they would “know before our stay” whether or not the hotel would be open. I was told I would be notified 24 hours before check-in.

Today, Thursday, April 3rd, I received a vague email from the group booking director simply asking me to call. I called at 8:12AM and was told they were “blindsided” and had no idea they wouldn’t be open. I explained that Booking.com had already notified one of our teachers, and thanks to that heads-up, our parents had already scrambled to find alternate accommodations.

Had we relied solely on Hilton’s team, our group would have shown up to a locked building with no plan B. It is extremely hard to believe that third-party platforms were informed and the on-site staff at Hilton were not. Surely someone at the location had to relay this information to Booking.com, so how were your own guests not told?

This was a huge letdown, and the ball was absolutely dropped. Trust, honesty, and communication are the bare minimum in the hospitality industry—and Hilton failed us in all three areas. We will not be returning to this location, and I would strongly encourage others to call ahead, double-check everything, or just book elsewhere to avoid a similar mess.

Stayed at the Hampton inn for a day, just to be close to the airport. It was a convenient location after a long business trip. Hotel was alright, nothing special but as we got it for convenience it was sufficient. Checked into the room, went to dinner, and came back for the night. There was a minor hiccup with room assignments but fortunately at the front desk Jake was on hand, and he was extremely courteous and helpful in resolving the issue.

Ordered room online. Room was nice. I only rented this room to be able to have a fitness room for me and indoor pool for the kids, while we were passing through the area. They did not mention it was closed and off limits for the next three weeks, for renovations and didn’t mention it until after we checked in. Would not refund or discount for the inconvenience, and so we could move to holiday day inn and suites that’s had all the above plus hot tub. Use another more reliable lodge and call to make sure they aren’t in renovations.
