Both the hotel and the spa have mind-bogglingly poor communications. Expect lots of unreturned calls, lost or ignored email replies, or numerous missed calls without a voicemail or email to indicate which department is trying to reach you. In general, there are notable incongruities between expectations and reality of service and experience. Every staff member is very warm and pleasant, and you feel heard and cared for when you talk to them, but then there’s no action to deliver what you talked about. Your conversations (often painstakingly long and detailed on the phone; set aside much more than 10-25 minutes each time you need to chat with these folks in advance, though 10-15 tends to suffice at the front desk once you’re on property) and emails seem to vanish into thin air, with notes, requests, and arrangements not actually getting made. It’s like they know what a resort is supposed to look like and offer on the outside, but there’s no operation to actually deliver it. It’s comical, but it’s also very frustrating.

The location is lovely. Both the spa and the food program meet, but definitely don’t exceed, expectations for this price point. The spa is a perfectly pleasant place to spend a day - it won’t end up on your lifetime favorites list, but it absolutely meets the mark for a relaxing environment. Like others have noted, while there’s charm in an historic property, some updates and basic operational changes (e.g., guest rooms being far too hot in winter unless your window was open or broken; yoga class held in a room that hadn’t had the heat turned on so it was under 60° F; erratic housekeeping) would help. The complimentary daily happy hour and morning coffee are nice touches.

What an amazing, stunning location with the most remarkable view of the Golden Gate Bridge in a beautiful, beautiful hotel. It's really fantastic. The spa is great with a fantastic masseuse called Christine if that's of interest. |However, the housekeeping was all a bit odd. My room wasn't cleaned on the first day, and I actually had to call in to get them to clean it and reset it. Even when they did, they left elements of the previous evening's room service left on the table. This was all quite odd and is why it loses one of its stars.

Lovely hotel in a little pocket of Bay Area history. Our room had a sliver of city view; it was quiet and very comfortable. After a 12 mile hike in the Marin Headlands I spent a long time relaxing in the bathtub. On our last morning we strolled around the grounds behind the hotel and saw an owl and watched a Great Blue Heron swallow a mouse. Very happy with our stay.

Great place for location, history, hiking and food! Views are spectacular. We have a daughter living in San Francisco and this is where we stay when we visit. Feels like a vacation for us all. And dogs are welcome! We usually stay in the modern rooms, however the older rooms look very comfy too. Once you are here you really don't need your car which is wonderful! You can walk, bike, or just sit in the rocking chairs on the front porches and enjoy the view of the bridge and the city beyond.

Really wonderful stay in this beautiful spot. Exceptional views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge throughout the grounds and outstanding service. Attentive bell hop staff and prompt room cleaning with a turndown service. Wonderful on-site amenities including spa, high quality breakfast, gym, etc. Would highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cavallo Point Lodge. The service we received from the Valets, Front Desk, Room Service, Maintenance, Housekeeping and Mercantile Store was excellent. We heard of people having different issues, but our experience was exceptional. The grounds were clean and very dog friendly. Our room and even the room service menu catered to our dog. Our accommodations were great! Parking worked out perfectly. We ate off of the Room Service menu since we brought our dog, and the food was delicious! Breakfast, Lunch AND Dinner. Last but definitely not least …. The views from this location of the GG Bridge and San Francisco were incredible!

Gorgeous views, great service! I would highly recommend staying here, it’s an easy uber ride into the city and yet is so relaxing! Our kids are 10 and 12 and the stay was perfect. We hiked up to the vista point of the golden gate and ate at the restaurant. Both were great.
