It has been well over a decade since the last time I had the chance to eat at Arthur treacher's. The shame of that is that this location in Garfield heights was not a long drive from my home. I just never find myself quite on this side of town unless I am visiting Cinemark at valley view. A friend suggested meeting for dinner before a movie at Cinemark this past Thursday evening. Arthur treacher's had been a childhood staple for him and his family and he suggested we meet there.

Upon arriving into the parking lot and seeing that familiar yellow background with the union jacks flanking the logo, took me right back. Inside. The interior and overall setup was, utilitarian. It has a handful of tables if you choose to dine in but the general setup seems to be geared for take out orders. That extended to how the food is packaged up, everything is placed into take out foam containers for your order.

There were around 4 people waiting for their order when we arrived. After placing our order at the counter (the person who took my order was super friendly and helpful) we were given our order number and we took a seat. Overall it took around 8-10 minutes for our orders to come up. The kitchen was absolutely cooking everything to order so everything was extremely fresh and hot.

I ordered the fish and chicken combo meal. That came with chips, 2 pieces of fish and 2 pieces of chicken, and 2 hush puppies. I also ordered a lemon luv and coleslaw as sides. After letting things cool a little while, dove in. That first bite took me right back to my childhood. We didn't visit Treacher's often, as it was usually reserved for when we would visit sears at southland for school shopping, but I always enjoyed my experience back then. Everything was how I remembered it.

This will be a restaurant I will return to when in the area for sure moving forward. Can't believe I waited so long to return.

Food was Great!
It was our first time there, we ordered the Fish and Chips. Best hush puppies we have ever had. They have a nice menu; chicken, shrimp. We'll have to explore more of it. I did feel it was kinda pricey but it was good quality.
The dining room is small, but it was clean. Not really set up for family seating, not a kid environment (in my opinion). Felt more like a Grab and Go, take out.
We will be going again. If you go, I hope you enjoy it!

Excellent!! The only difference from the old days is that they served crispy fries rather than steak fries(chips). I’ll be back many times!

Stop tear and got a treat that I hadn't had for many many years! Order their five pieces of fish or chicken special and some chips. Yummy! Restaurant itself is pretty bare with only a couple tables. It does look clean though. Cashier was very nice and friendly.

We just moved into North East Ohio and my husband is British, he really wanted some decent fish and chips out that wasn't over $20 at a Cleveland Irish pub that we ate at before a many years ago. He found Arthur Treacher's on Google "Fish Fry" search. When I mentioned it to my uncle that we were going to try Arthur Treacher's because they are the most well rated and reasonably priced, he said it was fast food! After researching his claim on YouTube, I was shocked to find out it was once a huge chain of fish and chip restaurants in the 1970s and 80s. Arthur Treacher was a real person too and a British actor.

The food was actually pretty good! The fish wasn't greasy. The breading was light but crisp. The fries were actually chips and the hush puppies were tasty. A three fish basket was about $11. The service was friendly. Inside the restaurant was clean. Yes, it looks like one of those hole in the wall places, Styrofoam clam shell trays and cups but don't let that image fool you! I truly got your local UK small town Chippy vibe while eating there. All they need is mushy peas and curry sauce and you have a proper British Fish and Chips shop!

Historically the battered "Cod" with the famous recipe ended in the 1970's. When the Cod was replaced with the cheaper Pollack fish, that's what caused the customer base to diminish, that's why they went out of business the first time. I tried it more recently and was not impressed. The Pollack was small and not very tasty. I would prefer them bringing back the real fish, Cod. The Cod made this chain famous. If I knew I was buying a fat piece of quality Cod in a special recipe batter, I'd be willing to pay the price. Otherwise, the nostalgia is the only thing it has going for it, and without the Cod the nostalgia fades quickly.

Upon arrival…No parking spots, only like a 10 car lot. The place was crowded, Very little standing room in the inside, but the employees moved very fast. The menu is two options only… $9.99 and up or $29.99 and up..They only have…fish, fries, hush puppies, soda and coleslaw and NOTHING ELSE. I was disappointed because I thought I was gonna get a bang for my buck. The food was delicious, but greasy as ever.
