On a trip to Ohio's northeast winery's this was truly a hidden gem to find. The house is absolutely restored amazingly! We stayed in the Erie room which has its own private bathroom with a wonderful jacuzzi tub for 2. The bed and it's linens were so comfortable! Next time I will book the suite downstairs which has a private entrance, sitting room and a small kitchen. The price is right and Elaine is such a wonderful hostess! The morning breakfast and conversation with the other guests was wonderful! Its a little ride from the adorable downtown area which is also a must see! I will definitely stay here again and again!

Elaine greeted us and showed us around the beautifully decorated house. After riding 54 miles on the nearby Western Reserve Greenway bike trail, we relaxed before turning in for the night. We stayed in the "Lake Erie" room, and the bed was extremely comfortable. (If you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs, we heard a few train whistles) For breakfast, Elaine made delicious cheese omelettes, "sticky sausage", and croissants, along with fresh strawberries and yogurt.||We enjoyed meeting a few of our fellow guests who wished us a good trip.||While speaking to Elaine, we learned that Christmas is her favorite time of year (she loves to decorate the house for the holidays). We would love to return in December for another stay at this great B&B!

Good for a quick trip through Ohio's northeast wineries. It's not in the best of locations, but the house itself is charming as can be! Additionally, the hostess, Elaine, is a lovely accommodating individual. Delicious and filling breakfasts are included. The only two drawbacks in comparison to other Victorian B&Bs I have frequented is that the Gilded Swan sits on a road that is traveled by noisy trucks and motorcycles at all hours, which might bother some guests, although it did not bother me. Also, there is not a private bath in each room; rather, we had a small water closet (tiny sink & toilet) in our room with a main bath with a shower across the hall.

Would we Book a room again, Yes! My wife and I like to travel to Ashtabula for bike riding on the Western Reserve Greenway Bike path which is a paved 47 mile rails to trails. The Gilded Swan is very close to the actual path. You can ride right from the B&B. We checked out the reviews before we booked a room, as I am sure that is why you are reading this. We agree with all of the positives, Elaine is great. Breakfast was wonderful and her company even better. This is why you stay at a B&B. I guess the best way to counter the negative reviews are don’t judge a B&B by its town. Odds are you also have a reason to be in Ashtabula, the location is perfect for us as bike riders but if not the inside of the B&B will make you forget that Ashtabula is a like many aging industrials towns in the NE. How attractive is the exit off of 1-90 where you will find your hotel? Our room was very large and comfortable, we stayed in the down stairs Vintage suite. The B&B has Wi-Fi which worked fine for me. We stayed during the week so there was some road and railroad noise in the mornings, but nothing that kept us from sleeping at night. Again for the value, Elaine’s hospitality and breakfast, I am sure you will also be hard pressed to find a reason not to want to return once you have been inside.

I went to the Guilded Swan for a couple of nights away with my cousin so we could catch up. We were happy that the king size bed could be separated so we each had our own. The breakfast was really nice and the hostess even sent some coffee cake home with us. Also she is very accommodating with check in and out times. Had fun finding all the swans everywhere! Painted artwork and mural on ceiling and walls in a couple of rooms that was worth seeing.Though it's true that the neighborhood was not wonderful, we didn't feel unsafe and were able to enjoy the various tourist attractions along Lake Erie and in the town. Also since the price couldn't be beat and she said we could come in the morning whenever we wanted, we were very happy. A lot has been put into the restoration of the place which we could really appreciate. I plan to return!

Clean, pleasant home and gracious but laid-back host. Breakfast was ample and delicious. Neighborhood was a bit iffy, but parking area was gated, and we did not experience any problems. ||TIP: If booking the Lake Erie room, be aware that, though there is a two-person whirlpool in the bathroom, there is no shower. You will have to use a shared bathroom for that. (Had I known that, I would have booked a different room, but it was my own fault for assuming.)

I had the pleasure of staying at The Gilded Swan this past week ( Aug 13-18th 2018). Ms Elaine Swanson has created a warm, welcoming, comforting environment in the hamlet of Ashtabula on the outskirts of Cleveland Ohio. I was the only one there most of my stay so I got a chance to have Elaine all to myself and she has the most entertaining stories and just made me feel at home from the moment I walked in. I will miss our morning chats. She was very knowledgeable of the surrounding area and it’s attractions. This was my first stay at any bed and breakfast and if all of them are like this one I am done with hotels and motels for good. Thank you Elaine for a great time.

Stayed at the Gilded Swan B&B for three nights over the 4th of July. I was pleasantly surprised!||Yes, the neighborhood is not "grand" but that whole area is old and the economy is not booming.||The breakfast we were served at the Gilded Swan was awesome, every morning. The accommodations were very nice, clean, comfortable and roomy. We had full access to the kitchen||to store drinks or dinner leftovers. We would definitely stay there again.
