We have been visiting the Dillard House restaurant for over 30 years. Our visit on March 30 was our last. While the food was pretty good, we were very disappointed that we were not allowed to take our leftovers from the restaurant. My husband and I are not big eaters, and have always in the past, taken our leftovers in to go boxes. At one time it was a limit of one box per person. We were not told ahead of time that they have changed their policy. It seems ridiculous that half of our food was thrown away because we weren’t allowed to take it home. We did not ask for seconds other than two wings. The food that was left over was the food we PAID for. If they aren't going to let people take their food home, then they need to change their pricing. Oh, and we had to wait on our server several times. He spent a lot of time chatting with the other servers. At one point he and two others were standing around the cash register playing with a Rubik’s cube.

While the hotel rooms are aging, they are being well maintained and are very clean. The grounds and views are lovely. It’s not high-end, but a good play to stay. We stayed in their off season so it was sparsely populated and renovations were in progress.

I rarely write a review, but I’m sure the management would want the feedback. Had lunch there today and it wasn’t even close to the old Dillard House I knew years ago. First our yeast rolls came out and they were over baked and were more like yeast biscuits. Green beans, scallop potatoes had no seasoning. The fried okra was over cooked. Our fried chicken didn’t come out unit we were ready to leave. And it was no where near the Old Dillard House Chicken. We ignored the reviews and drove 2 hours to decided for ourselves. A lot of the sub par reviews were one to two months old. So plenty of time to fix things from the previous reviews. Dessert was one bite and done. To get back to the Old Dillard House you need to fix the food quickly. I want to see you succeed. Not listening to reviews won’t fix it. Good luck.

This has ALWAYS been my favorite restaurant. I have driven one hour one-way to eat here many, many times. Sunday 3/2/25 was probably my last time.
I'll start with the positive. The service was amazing! Our waiter was very attentive. Our food bowls stayed full and so did our drinks. He was very kind.
The negative. . . the food. I went on Sunday for their famous country fried steak. What we got instead was something that looked like a frozen patty with some type of white gravy on it. It was terrible! The green beans no longer have that famous country taste. They didn't even have any apple butter. The cornbread had no taste. Please, please bring back tge food that we all know & love!

I had waited all day to have lunch at the Dillard House. This has been one of my very favorite restaurants. When we arrived, we found it was under new owners. Our waitress was very sweet, but every thing was down hill from there. The food was terrible. They have cut WAY BACK from what they used to offer - from 6 sides to 3; from 3 meats to 2; from 3 or 4 salads to 1; from 3 varieties of bread to 1. The quality was very poor - grilled sweet potatoes instead of the yummy casserole, steamed green beans, creamed corn that was more cream than corn. The fried chicken was good, but not for about $28. I was very disappointed. No more Dillard House.

The bed was very comfortable. The room was nice. The view was nice. We were on the meadows side which was a view of the horses in the pasture. Staff was exceptional. I wanted to eat there but they had ham, dressing, etc (12/26/24) and I had been eating that for 3 days and was not in the mood for it a 4th day.

I’m not one to leave reviews but here goes … we have stayed here MANY times and love this area. However, this trip was an exception as we had no hot water for a shower on our first night, no working phone in our room to call the front desk and a non working ice machine. I used my cell phone to call the desk about the water and was told “we’re full so you’ll have to let the water run for 10 minutes”. Well after 25 minutes, we showered in cold water. The facilities need to be updated to provide adequate amenities for their guests. They’re currently renovating the dining hall so hoping new hot water heaters and ice
Machines are next on the list!

The Dillard House has been our "Go To" for special occasions and anytime we wanted a big country meal with farm fresh vegetables. The price has always been expensive - let's be honest - but you normally had enough leftovers for a 2nd meal the next day, so it made sense.
Now, accountants or private equity must have purchased the establishment. You can no longer take the leftover food. It is still all you can eat, but the fact that you KNOW all leftover food will be thrown away causes you to not get all the options. For example, we were brought out Fried Chicken and Country Fried Steak, there was one other option but since I knew it would be thrown away we did not ask for it and we did not get to try it. Also, we were never offered any bread of any type - now the service was excellent and I'm sure if we had asked they would have brought it - but the understanding that all the food left uneaten would be thrown in the garbage caused us to be reluctant and thus NOT enjoy our meal. It's no longer a value and we felt the portions were smaller and rationed. There is still plenty of food BUT you no longer enjoy your favorites and ask for more since you worry it will just be thrown away.
The Dillard House is no longer a value and we won't be coming back.
This was a terrible decision by management.
