Let me start by saying that the Bellwether staff members are very friendly and helpful, and that this negative review is no reflection on the folks that we interacted with directly during our stay.

We have come to the Bellwether several times, and have previously been blown out of the water by the experience, most notably the made-to-order Indian-inspired breakfast. We again booked a weekend getaway for this year, and at the time of our booking the website still advertised this offering.

However, we did not realize that the hotel was recently bought by a large corporation that came in and made budget cuts. Upon arriving to the hotel, we were informed that chefs had been let go and the made-to-order breakfast had been discontinued 4 days prior to our arrival. In its place, there is a very run-of-the-mill continental breakfast - not bad, but definitely not worth the price tag. Similarly, since there is no longer a chef, the afternoon tea consists of some frozen Costco-style appetizers. We were not informed of this change prior to arrival, and since we had flown in and arrived late, we didn’t really have a choice but to stay there.

Whereas there was previously complimentary valet parking, the hotel is now charging $35/night to self park in their run-down lot that is about a block away.

If the price tag were not so hefty, this would still be a very nice hotel, given the comfy rooms and convenient location. However, without the amazing food, the >$500/night price (not including parking) is pretty difficult to stomach. It seems like a corporation came in and purchased a really cool boutique hotel, cut out everything that was notable about it, and then continued to charge the same price.

RIP Bellwether

Let me start by saying it pains me to leave this review as I have loved the Bellwether since I stepped into it 4 years ago. However, the recent change to new ownership has led to the deterioration of the Bellwether that is the hidden gem we all know and love.

Gone is the chef-made breakfast and the attentive and knowledgeable staff. The rooms are beginning to fall into disrepair as they are simply not being looked after in the same detail the previous owner and staff poured into it.

The location and character of the inn remain the same but the ambiance and luxury that you pay for is gone. The price tag is no longer worth it.

I booked this trip for my anniversary and it was featured as one of Savannah’s gems. It was shown to be a beautiful bed and breakfast with amazing service and chef made meals with afternoon tea and made to order breakfast. It justified the price we paid.
Normally with hotels, especially one that is ran as a ‘bed an breakfast’, they send an email of arrival details- check in, how to get there (in my experience). We did not receive any. We called twice and no one answered the phone. We were driving around to see how to get to the Belwether and if someone would take the car. We were not informed that the valet service was no longer an option.

When we arrived, there was no one at the back gate to welcome. We finally found someone who was running front, giving a tour, and running the bar. She was amazing and I felt so bad that she was doing it all!

Room was nice. We got a regular room. It was decent sized and the bathroom was very nice. We received champagne at 6pm. Afternoon tea did not look inviting and I saw that everything else had changed (breakfast/ afternoon tea) so we ended up venturing out to historic district Savannah or neighboring parts for food and relaxation and only came back to sleep. I was looking forward to use the time at Belwether as a place to relax and reconnect. It is in a very peaceful location but with amenities lacking, you would need to go elsewhere and plan accordingly.

Bellwether is located in a beautifully restored home in a perfect location in Savannah. It’s easily walkable to all the interesting parts of Savannah. The staff was all pleasant and helpful, especially accommodating us lingering most of an extra day due to a flight cancellation. We absolutely recommend spending a few days at Bellwether.

The accommodations and staff were lovely and welcoming. The daily teas and breakfasts were delicious and on time. The rooms are quaint and full of historic charm. Bellwether’s is convenient to everything you’d want to do in Savannah, but secluded enough to avoid late night noises and busyness.

A year ago the inn was purchased by a hotel company and it's gone down hill from there starting with breakfast. It was known for its wonderful home made breakfasts. Now it's a buffet and you get a better buffet breakfast at a Residence Inn by Marriot for half the room cost! As for cleanliness not only wasn't our room cleaned when we returned at 3:30 but when they finally cleaned it on two occasions they left dirty cups. The only people who were a positive presence were the young women who were there to serve the champagne in the evening. The others didn't have a clue about anything and weren't very helpful. As someone who stayed there previously said, they would not return. Neither will we.

Wow. I cannot overstate how impressed we were with Bellwether House. Easily, one of the best lodging experiences of this seasoned traveler's life. The gorgeous rooms have been sleekly modernized with modern/digital conveniences, but retain an antique charm you can only get from an actual 19th century home. The food was some of the best we had all weekend. The teas and coffees - you guessed it - also fantastic. On top of it all, the staff were all friendly and truly made us feel at home during our stay. I’m not compelled to even investigate different accommodations for my next trip to Savannah; I will continue to stay at Bellwether House every time.

Joey, my husband, planned a surprise weekend getaway to The Bellwether House in Savannah, Georgia, to help me unwind after being unwell and working nonstop long hours all of January. The Bellwether House in Savannah Georgia downtown historic district is such a beautiful secluded five star luxury historic bed and breakfast. The staff is very catering and friendly with special efforts to make it feel more welcoming. The high ceilings are lovely too. Baths are to be relaxed and are enjoyable! Love the shower, very good set up with great pressure.
We had a wonderful time enjoying the luxurious amenities, my husband booked a romantic fine dining candle 🕯️ lit -private-catered dinner by Chef Whitney who presented a 5 course dinner. Chefs’ presentations were amazing and tasteful. She took the time out to present each one freshly cooked, and explained the origin of her specialty dishes, and gave good context. Loved 🥰 🍽️ 💯

Tea time 🫖 was amazing mingling amongst the other guests who attended. Around 4/5 pm trying out the different specialty teas and coffees—plus the tea tower with little snacks sized sandwiches, hors d’oeuvres, cookies, and macaroons.

Breakfast; yummy like an India inspired array of flavors/ ingredients/ sauces.

Overall wonderful experience the whole way through. Would definitely recommend when you need a relaxing getaway.
