Was in Athens, GA on business and brought my family along. We chose Country inn & Suites for the indoor pool and 3 star reviews. We paid a little over $200 per night and was expecting a nice clean hotel. Unfortunately we needed a new room after my wife discovered stained sheets and a poop hand print on the wall near the shower and toilet. They quickly gave us a new room with no hassle but I still had to quickly clean stains from the wall and door frame before my wife saw the room. It was late and I didn't know what else to do. Thankfully the second room had clean sheets (they did have holes in them) and no poo on the walls. It basically looked like house keeping had a list and did clean what was on it but never cleaned walls, furniture or air vents. The common area of the hotel also smelled like a sewage leak. The elevator buttons didnt all work properly so i had to hold in the 3rd floor button until we arrived at that floor. After reading deeper into reviews I realized these are constant problems that are not fixed even though the owners know about them. I would normally say the hotel was under bad Management but I got more the feeling it was the owners being cheap and squeezing ever last dime out of the hotel before trying to sell it or something. It was a nice hotel at some point but it looks like since it was built it was never maintained properly.

The reason for the 4 stars is because I called when my wife and I were on the drive from Marietta to Athens for our daughter's volleyball tournament the woman who answered the phone, which after arriving was the same woman working the front desk was very rude and spoke down to me when I wanted to confirm the reservation I had made online. It turned out that she had two guest with the same last name and so when I was explaining to her that I had already paid for the booking online she just wouldn't except that I made and paid for my room through booking.com. but she wanted to go one telling me that I was crazy and that I made the reservation directly with them and hadn't paid yet. Even after giving her the booking number. 5 minutes later as she came to realize that she has two reservations with a guest who has very common last name. She gave a half hearted apology which I excepted and forgot about the entire thing. Until I arrived and was going to check in and when I walked in a overhead her speaking to another guest and she gave them the same treatment. As for the actual hotel, it was a nice place. Clean room. The bathroom you could tell only gets the typical surface clean that most hotel house keeping does which over time builds up till the grout has turned a different color from what it once was and you see mildew build up around some of the fixtures. Not sure why they don't have to do a deep clean once a week or something to ensure that doesnt happen. A world where " time is money". One day they will have to do it and that will be a job I wouldn't want.

We were brought through Athens, GA for business. We chose the hotel based on the reviews compared to others in the area and it had a indoor pool for the children to swim in while I was working during the day. The first impression was, there must be a sewage leak somewhere because the common areas of the hotel smelled so bad...turns out after going through previous bad reviews this is a on going problem. The room we went in first had a stained sheet on the bed and a poop smeared hand print on the wall near the toilet. They were helpful at the desk and gave us a new room which I inspected before moving our stuff. The regular things that needed cleaning were clean but they didn't pay attention to walls or furniture. I quickly went around cleaning what I hope were coffee and food remnants off the walls before my wife inspected it. It was pretty late at this point and I didn't know what else to do. Final thoughts are...it's a really nice hotel but either management or the owners are preventing good management of the hotel. Maintenance was terrible everywhere you looked things were just rigged up. The carpet in the hotel was installed by amatures it wasn't stretched so it had loose humps everywhere. Also not all the elevator buttons worked so you couldn't go to the 3rd floor unless you held in the button (had to figure that one out) toilet paper holder was broke off and there were mildew stains around the tub. All these things could have been fixed but they aren't. The rooms did smell better than the common area of the hotel. THIS Hotel was for the money the second worst hotel I have stayed in not because of age or economic placement but because of bad Management possibly caused by the owners. There is no way I would allow a hotel I owned to be this way. This hotel was priced at $250 per night. I didn't take pictures of everything I saw. I'm disappointed such a nice hotel building that could be really nice is managed so poorly.

The hotel needs upgrading. Dirty carpets in hotel as well as the room. room was clean besides the carpet. Pool needs looking after. Breakfast was mediocre. Lovely staff, very accommodating. I have stayed at several Country inn and Suites and this by far the worst kept one. Will not stay there again.

I am being nice to give it 2 stars. Stains on the carpet and furniture. Broken Shades, peeling paint on Bathroom Door. Room Dark and dingy. If I wasnt in the middle of a hospital prep I would have left! Based my reservation on Trip adviser reviews - next time will check out a hotel better. Not a good experience.

The lobby smells like raw sewage (no joke) and my towels had clearly not been washed. Convenient location to UGA (5 minute drive) and the staff was friendly but this hotel smells bad! Lots of trips to Athens in my future and none will be at the Country inn.

The reviews here are harsh so I had to write a more positive one. We really enjoyed staying here for 4 days recently. The beds were great but pillows could be better. We loved having a sitting area that had a door between it and the bedroom. The place was quiet, breakfast was fine, and fresh cookies were put out in the evening. We liked the coffee bar too altho we brought our own Keurig. Location is great - walkable to the Hilltop Grille. We will definitely stay here again!

The hotel staff is great ! But this place is very tired. Furniture is very worn, lamp shades are crushed . The ac never cooled down past 80. Ugh the Lobby stinks not sure what odor can be. This place needs lots of improvement. I will not stay here again
