Houston's Trail's End Restaurant - Kanab, Utah

This was our first time eating at Houstons and we had high expectations based on how the crowds of people were waiting to get a table. One woman even told us the wait was worth every second and that she would "wait all day for this place." The old west theme was festive and the staff was nice, but the food was not amazing. On the breakfast menu, just about everything has tons of cream gravy and is all just average diner food. They would not make adjustments/substitutions to the ingredients even for an allergy because everything was apparently pre-portioned, which was really limiting to what could be ordered.

We were presently surprised by this little place. As we drove by, it appeared not very busy, and we were unsure. We parked in the pack and walked around to the front. We were seated right away, and to our surprise, a lot of both were filled, which you can't see because the booths are high. The food was great and not too much either. It was the perfect amount! We were even able to order dessert to go and ate it late that night. Our server was very attentive!

We loved the food! I got their famous country fried steak, tomato macaroni soup, and fries.
My husband ordered prime rib, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese.
Also the chocolate pie (drool).

Everything was so well cooked, the flavor amazing, and that’s coming from someone who isn’t a meat and potatoes person.

If you’re passing through, definitely eat here!

After seeing great reviews, we decided to try Houstons. After the recommendation of the server, I got the southwestern chicken salad. It was terrible! It had no flavor and had so much dressing on it that you couldn't even taste the salad. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak. When his came, I was surprised at how it looked, but he did say it tasted ok. Not great, but ok.
When the server came back, to see if we wanted anything else, I told her my salad was terrible, she just said oh I'm sorry.
We ordered the banana cream pie, based on the rave reviews from everyone. I must say, it was wonderful!! It was so creamy and tasty, but very filling. 😀
The server did give us my or for free since the salad was bad.
We won't come back here for food, but we definitely would get the pie again.
The parking was in the back of the restaurant, there was a door that was the back of the restaurant, you had to walk through the whole restaurant to get to the front hostess station.
The server only came to us to give us our food and take order and give us our check. In her defense though, we asked for a table instead of a booth and the waitress that was working in there had 3 huge tables, so she probably came from the main area to help us.

We are spending a few days in Kanab to hike in the parks. Ate dinner here tonight and it was wonderful! My husband had the southwest chicken salad, and I had the chicken fried chicken. Both were delicious with generous portions. I had the steamed fresh vegetables as my side and I cannot rave enough about how delicious they were. In most restaurants the steamed veggies are usually pretty poor but these were perfect. Nine different veggies steamed to perfection. We'll drop in tomorrow after hiking for some pie

What a great experience. We had the Shrimp plate and the Southwest Chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. For dessert we had the razzledazzle ala mode and the banana cream pie. Again, great food. Kennedie was our server, and she was over the top! It must be a great place to work as every employee had a smile.

Yummy good old country cooking! Makes you feel right at home and the servers are very friendly. Could be a little fresher produce and not like mass feedings but loved the menu options. Rolls and Breakfast are a must do!

We had an excellent dinner here at Houston’s Trail’s End Restaurant. The soup of the day was so good that we bought some more to take home with us. My orange chicken was very flavorful and my wife loved her New York Strip Steak! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. There’s parking in the front and the back.
