We really, really, really enjoyed 50 Taters!! It’s called a hidden gem of Alabama. Go to Unclaimed Baggage, then have a giant baked potato with pulled pork slathered all over and great Mac ‘n Cheese, or some crispy chicken fingers. The iced tea is insanely good. There are daily specials, fun drinks, fun desserts, and just some great southern cooking. The staff was also super helpful, fun, and informative, and they’ll chat right up with you (they split all tips between the staff, and you’re not assigned one waiter but they all just come up when the time comes—keep that in mind!) Come to 50 Taters for great southern cooking!

Fantastic loaded pork BBQ potato and fried pickles. I was unable to 'comfortably' finish the huge potato, as well as the big plate of fried pickles.

A secluded location behind the Wendy's off of 72 in Scottsboro. My servers were great. In fact, the entire staff seemed all smiles and happy to be working at 50 Taters. Plenty of parking. I will certainly return to try other menu items and the well maintained salad bar. The prices are very reasonable. Minus the tip, the meal was less than $20. If I had left with a box of leftovers, it would have been another entire meal. I loved the fried pickles! The facility is adorned with interesting items. Thanks for a nice experience. Kudos to whomever hired the friendly, happy, smiling, and professional staff.

I think the hype is a little larger than needs be. Service was good and looked like they had a lot of help which is always good. 4 star on food because sweet tea was great and very large glasses. Maybe I chose wrong not sure it wasn’t bad but no where close to what I expected based on hype. Cuban and cheeseburger plus fried apple pie with ice cream. Cuban needed spicy mustard not plain mustard plenty of meat on it. Mac and cheese made with American white cheese it was good. Cheeseburger plenty of bacon but had better. Dessert good but nothing to write home about. Based on food, it could’ve been three stars, but like I stated earlier four stars because of the sweet tea.

To begin, we noticed a very crowded front entrance and walked inside to check the wait time. There wasn’t anyone at the front to check you in for at least 10 minutes. Judging by the gloomy look on employees faces (not all, some) I questioned if this was a poor decision to dine here. A long line at the register was filled with customers trying to check out. It was very sloppy and disorganized. After being told “yall see that table right there? (She pointed) go to this here table right there”, we waited 16 minutes before a waitress finally came to ask what we wanted to drink. After receiving our beverages, we had to wait another 12 minutes before being asked what our dinner selection would be. Upon receiving my order, I noticed it was the chicken fried chicken and not the chicken fried steak. I finally flagged down a waitress to inform her that the order was wrong. She literally snatched my plate from me and didn’t apologize for the mishap. Another waitress finally brought me the correct item(s) I ordered. There were a total of FOUR (4) waitresses that waited on my family and I. It was a bit perplexing not having one set waitress to accommodate our needs. The logistics behind this approach is purely and blatantly asinine. The food is as mediocre as can be. I would describe it was a poor man’s version of “comfort food”. The okra had a batter that was soggy and flavorless. The corn nuggets were cold and mushy. The hamburger steak was cooked nicely but lacked any flavor. The only positive aspect of the restaurant is the salad bar, and at best, is just average. Another oddity is that there are TWO women’s restrooms at the front of the restaurant in a convenient location but totally separated from the men’s which was located in the very back of the restaurant. I had high hopes of this restaurant based on the number of patrons, reviews, etc. The major aspect of this review is essentially due to the character of the employees working there. They lack integrity and kindness. I personally don’t want to dine in a place where workers aren’t friendly and have this dark gloom surrounding their faces. I even noted to the cashier that my experience was unpleasant and gave reasons why, but she didn’t seem to have any interest or apologize for the unpardonable experience.

Ok, so we were soo impressed with this restaurant. First, there was no wait so we were able to sit ourselves and the place was clean and very welcoming. Our waitress was prompt and another waitress was quick to ask if we needed anything as well as a guy who was bussing tables. For the food, my husband got one of the specials: 1/4 rack of ribs with tater salad and corn nuggets. I got the Bama Cheesesteak with Mac and cheese. Both of our meals came out within 10 minutes and hot, fresh and delicious. My cheesesteak was LOADED with brisket and pulled pork and I could only put 1/3 of it down. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy(perfection!). My husbands ribs were juicy, fall-of-the-bone tender and had soo much flavor and I can confidently say that these were the best corn nuggets I have ever had in my life. We both ordered the pumpkin cheesecake to go but I had to take a little nibble and OMG.. soo good. All in all, we rate this place 12 out of 10 and will drive the hour plus to come back to this place again very soon.

Had a great first experience here today with the family! Can't ask for much more than a homey and thoroughly branded atmosphere, and a menu that makes choosing difficult for even two of the pickiest eaters I know. The appetizer was worth it, the house sauce was unique and excellent, and the brisket lived up to the hype. All of our sides were good—of particular note, the fried green tomatoes! Portions are reasonable but not ungodly. Service only got four stars because the Sunday rush was in competition with our ability to guzzle large amounts of sweet tea in short amounts of time, but everyone was kind and helpful and created a very pleasant environment even on the outdoor patio. Will certainly make the drive back sometime! (Shoutout to the hubs for the pics of the signs in the men's restroom...)
